Just a thought, I hope the contracts our players have signed with Villa are and have (UECs) Unilateral extension clauses.
The reason I say this is because of all the speculation again surrounding John McGinn.
This for me is just the start, and if we maintain our status in the premiership a lot more of our players will attract attention,
Marvelous, Grealish, Guilbert, Engels, to name but a few.
That said a large proportion of our squad have already increased considerably in value.
So for me it now seems a reasonable and logical time to extend all contracts of our playing staff.
We have over the years lost huge amounts of money on players being sold on for peanuts or players just exhausting their contracts.
If we want to deter predatory clubs from poaching our players we need to extend all contracts and include buyout clauses to all.
I am sure Christian Purslow has allowed for this, if he has it needs addressing sooner rather than later.
January can be very bitter.

Most of those only signed in the summer and Grealish got a new deal last season.
We don't want them moving for peanuts but we also shouldn't go back to the O'Neill days where we were tripling a players wages after a couple of good games.

I am fully aware that most were signed in the summer, and that is my reasoning.
We are miles off the O`neill days, we are far better structured.
I have also not mentioned wages, not every player wants more money to sign an extension, agreed it can be a factor but we don`t throw money about like we used too.
Triple wages is a tad excessive is it not.
You obviously don`t agree that`s fine, but clubs stance against players has to start somewhere.

But why renew 3-5 year contracts within 3 months?
An agent is always going to negotiate an increase in a renewal even if it's small.
When Gabby got into the first team he got 2 contract renewals in 1 season going from 10-15k a week to 60k a week which means bare minimum it doubled each time but I'm sure the first one tripled his wages.

When your best players are in their mid twenties and their contracts start running below 3 years, look to renew. If players jump up in importance/ ability (example McGinn) then tie them down to a new deal so their paid fairly and their contract lengths are up to date.
