So Haaland didn't score this week, city fans calling for him to be sold? I think not, some people are never happy, Watkins outscoring most of the premier league since Christmas, what does a guy need to do to earn the loyalty of the fans. ings was taking our penalty's till he left so that's a few extra goals Ollie would have for the season whereas Toney takes all Brentford's

I guess your having a pop at me Whack, as I simply posed the question about Watkins versus someone like Toney. I don’t dislike Watkins as I have said many times he works hard and never gives centre backs a minutes peace but is he a natural finisher? Someone like Toney is an out and out poacher and for me in a side like we are building would score more. For me if we are going to challenge the top six regularly, we need someone scoring 20+ goals a season and I merely questioned whether Watkins is that man if he is then I’m as delighted as the next Villa fan but personally I don’t think he is but as I said when I posed the question, you pays your money and you makes your choice.

To understand if Watkins can hit 20+ goals a season he needs a full season under Emery - I've always felt that, if Top 4 is the aim, we would need to upgrade Watkins but he has been absolutely sensational since Emery arrived. His game has gone to another level and I believe he'll hit the magic number of 20 goals next season. For me it's not about replacing Watkins but finding the right partner and getting the right players around him rather than replacing him. I love Toney but if you offered me a straight swap right now I wouldn't take it, I think Watkins offers much more and is now adding more goals to his game.

good points you could play them both together it would be insane partnership, that's 40 plus goals nearly with them 2, i think it would work in my opinion

Ings is a natural finisher and it didn’t work out to well for him in our system, personally I want to keep Watkins and go big on a winger to support him, someone who can beat players week in week out, Emery won’t sell Watkins either way and they are trying to get him on a new contract which tells me he’s our main man next year. do we want Toney at our club with all his off field controversy, I certainly don’t I w add my honest hard working players and nobody works harder than Watkins. except maybe Maginn.

I think we need a striker as well though Whack - Some good free transfers available if we can pull another Kamara-esque signing off - that being said, looks like Firmino is off to Barcelona and Thurman destined for Champions League, so it'll be tough to do those types of deals but fingers crossed. If you believe the rumours Nico Williams is the player we want to play the role you described above, again an ambitious target.Add Williams, Dembele (Free), Wan Bissaka, Guendouzi and a top CB (Pau Torres or Robin Le Normand) and that would be a very good window in my opinion - Maybe backfill some inevitable exits with some upcoming talent like Kang-In etc at a reasonable price.

Martinez

Wan Bissaka, Carlos, Torres, Moreno

McGinn, Luiz, Kamara, Ramsey

Williams, Watkins

Or.

New Keeper

Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne

Guendouzi, Tim I, Dedonker, Kang-In

Buendia, Dembele

Big summer ahead, all speculation until we players in the shirt and there will inevitably be exits of the players listed above but we aren't miles away from having some good squad depth. Like I didn't even mention Duran, Bailey, Coutinho, Chambers etc.

I agree with you Whack that in the Watkins v Toney debate it’s an either or question I don’t see them working as a pair as Emery likes to play with one out and out front man with a wide player in support.

BK1982, I agree with you on Dembele for free, Torres and Kang-In and that we should get rid of Chambers and especially Coutinho, because he's been such a disappointment in my opinion! We can sell Sanson, Wesley, Nakamba, Hause and Davis at a cut-price, and get back Archer, Philogene and Iroegbunam when their loans expire, they seem to improve already. I would think then that we would have an even better squad next season. We could even challenge for top 4! Up the Villa!
