How do we as punters determine outplayed.
Might sound a silly question but I bet the answers we give are very different and may even be conflicting.

On today's performance Dave desire is what got a millwall win,
They wanted it more,
This is a typical villa performance all season,

I have always said over villa are the most unfit side in championship,
Do the players care?
The sooner this new guy comes in the better,

Desire is an emotion Bob, not a stat.
What I was trying to get at was is it Possession, shots on and off target. territory etc.
The reason I bought it up was, because people are saying we were run ragged and outplayed, yet we had 63% possession.

Villadave

We had 63% possession they had 18 shots to our 6

So what is your point?

Possession is a flawed stat. where we have possession, in our own half looks great on paper, but all it does is slow the game, allow the opponent to get breath, and position and step up the pitch.

We lose matches for two reasons, to slow and predictable, and no trust in the defence, and that splits in three parts,
A) our keeper doesn’t trust what’s in front of him, as it’s fractured
B) our defence doesn’t trust what’s behind him, so the split (fracture) as one or two can’t hold their nerve to step
C) our midfield has no faith in what’s behind him, so sit far too deep and we lose any forward moment.
Meaning we can’t hit on break, or counterattack at pace.

All this does is allow the opponent further up the field, giving them confidence and the edge.

Its just a question I threw out there.
they did have 18 shots but only 4 on target to our 3.
I will simplify it, How do you class being outplayed.
Possession, shots, territory,
Simple question really, never mind leave it there, too much like hard work.

Couldn’t agree more flackie

The other thing I was thinking about is are the players that scared of James Chester? what I mean is he is our skipper but in my eyes he seems to nice. can't imagine him giving anyone a rollicking like terry would last season.

What we need is a leader who’s not afraid to upset the players by telling them what he thinks

Any ideas?

The basics of coaching even junior football is to not only retain the ball but pass the ball and make the opponent chase. Sounds simple because it is. Flackie is spot on in that this needs the team to work as a unit. Move the opposition around the pitch allowing spaces to occur where they do not want them to. Move into the space push them back and move forward as a unit.

Absolutely agree with Flackie. We have been pedestrian all season and devoid of any energy and cutting edge up front. Our defence is so full of holes and lack of leadership is plain to see. Agree that many good defences are built from a good confident keeper who communicates with his back line making them in return trusting and confident. I expect Henry will come in but can’t help but feel Terry could be a good gamble to lift the place and sort the back out!

too many'big time charlies' at the club, i hope the new man seriously 'culls the club of the lackluster bunch we've got, as for jack grealish, i'd drop him, there's too much hype around him and now his head is too big for the side.
