Surprised to hear Gardner's gone to Brighton for the season. Only real striker cover we had after Benty. Perhaps someone is coming in?

Im hearing West Ham have done their beans on the players they've signed. If it IS down to us and the 'ammers, then we should get him, although I do doubt the veracity of this link, personally.

A state of confusion can be worrying, and I believe that would be the thoughts of a negative person. Let's not confuse negative thoughts with realism though. Paul Lambert is trying to do the best he can with what he has. Take the practical view point. If PL is fired (as is expected) when new owners come in, he is not old enough to retire or eloquent enough to enter the world of football punditry. No, our manager's only route back to work is as a manager. He is probably (and wrongly, in my opinion) going to try to have a season or half a season like any player would, playing for a new contract. Unlike a player though, PL is not in control of all of the elements that will ensure (or otherwise) he has a good "swan song" season. The players he has bought in, gives us the experience we crave from players who are neither needy or desperate for the pay check. I believe they are players that will no more want a relegation on their playing file, than us fans! As for Roy Keane, the fact that most journalists seem to be reporting that Kieran Richardson will sign because of him and their past history at United and Sunderland (wasn't he a club record signing at Sunderland?), speaks volumes as to his potential impact.
We need to remain positive guys. The day we marry, we all believe our other half to be the most beautiful, the most thoughtful person on the planet. Only the most cynical would disagree. We all accept however this is not the case but we still focus on our positive attributes and the feelings of why we're with the person we are. Does this sound familiar? Sounds a lot like being a devoted football fan to me! So before we all relegate the club before the 1st August, let's inject some common sense, not cynicism. Let's add some support, not promote detraction. We don't NEED to support the Villa, we CHOOSE to. So why try to demoralise that which we have chosen?
Today, we are a different club. 1982 was a generation ago. Remember the past. Don't crave it's return because that will lead to disappointment and frustration and they in turn will show on the terraces. If this happens, then we stop being supporters and become the opposition. We can play our part and encourage the lads by letting them know we are still there for them AND the club! Here endeth the sermon!

You're right Mendax, Alonso "seems" a bargain, but £5m doesn't tell the whole story. Can you imagine Alonso's wages compared to Tom Cleverley? I'd guess Alonso's wages are probably 5 if not 6 times those of TC. I think we have to consider what a particular package cost is of a player. It's not transfer fees that kill a club, it's the wages.

Hi Guys. This conspiracy theorist in me wants to ask, why no number 9 this term? Does DB getting the iconic 19 shirt mean he is well and truly in the future plans? Whilst the question about Bent is a little tongue-in-cheek, the lack of a number 9 is puzzling, don't you think?

We British are renowned for our ability to stand together in adversity. Indeed the term "Bulldog Spirit" was coined during world war I as a way of describing how we naturally rally in the face of suffering and tribulation. This season we need to exploit our own natural talent as the twelfth, thirteenth and twentieth man to stand as one and support our manager and the choices he's made. Mr Lambert is not a bad manager but he is a Villan. our Villan. He talks with the passion of a man who's been in post twenty years not the mere two he has. He always remembers the fans and the role we play. We wanted him, we've got him and if anyone remembers Lambert the player, you have to accept the man is a fighter and knows how to overcome the odds!
Rise as one, stand as one and if we fall then we fall as one, either way we only defeat ourselves by criticising our own. I for one welcome our new players and thank Jordan Bowery for at least giving it a go when he was clearly out of his depth. That alone shows a bravery we should encourage at Villa not admonish.
Both of our signings have played at the very top of our league and others yet still they respect this great club of ours. We should show the same unity and forget last year. We cannot be relegated because of last years results. On opening weekend we start second and with the same points as everyone else.
Bring on next season and bring on a new hope and renewed passion for we are all Villa 'til we die!
