I accept this is the rumours postings, however for once it is fact, as we know Steve had spoken this morning so we now know the facts, Jack is going but at the right price, there are no major signings happening, what we see is what we get. Let's hope everyone steps up to the plate and exceeds last year's performances, it's not going to be easy but we need to get off to a good start and to build confidence within the camp. The alternative is obvious and will happen very quickly if we don't start well.

What press conference did you watch mate. Jack will only go if they pay top dollar. I can see him staying. 2 deals close to come in he wants 5 in total. Wolves won it last season with mainly loan players. If we can get some good ones in there is no reason we won't be right in the hunt.

2.) 03 Aug 2018 22:00:01
I think he knows get out the blocks 1st else he's dead man walking, no excuses now he's going to bckd with signings, let's see if we can play attractive football an play on the front instead of a slow cautious boring style of play, roll on Monday.

3.) 05 Aug 2018 20:48:15
Some fans forget we have a nucleus of a very good squad and if given the freedom to attack then will take apart any team in front of us.

I know I am not the brightest but naively the penny has just dropped. Imagine you are a highly successful businessman, you have a proven track record of turning round average businesses, you acquire a risky situation where the majority of fans don't want change, at this early stage you bring in a new unproven man just imagine he fails.

You are then under the microscope and associated with failure. Or do you give the incumbent enough rope and say you gave the situation s fair chance. Based on this at this stage I don't think Henry was ever an option. The owners have shown that can listen and give the manager a chance. If as I well think this will be temporary the owners have shown shrewd business acumen. As Del Boy once said "you know it makes sense"

1.) 26 Jul 2018 23:09:17
Brilliant, considering the life span of most managers is relatively short that is a great way of making the inevitable look like it was part of the game plan going on in your head.

2.) 26 Jul 2018 23:16:42
You didn't want Bruce but the owners chose him, live with it mate and don't let the decision eat you away, you probably just feel a bit foolish amongst your friends at the moment because you told them all that no doubt Bruce would be gone, It's only short term embarrassment and time will heal that. :-) UTV.

3.) 27 Jul 2018 12:16:26
They didn't pick him it's the fans that saved his job for now, it's nothing to celebrate mate.

4.) 27 Jul 2018 13:32:11
I have forgotten about the issue and moved on just as I would of done if Henry got the Job, It's you boys who keep bringing it back up.

Also the fact that we kept a very good manager is everything to celebrate and maybe next May you just might appreciate it yourselves.

5.) 27 Jul 2018 13:43:28
Also Vila4eva I didn't state that the owners picked him, I stated they chose him. To my understanding they had a choice between Bruce and Henry and they chose Bruce, it matters not the reason why they made that decision the point is that they chose Bruce which makes my statement correct.

6.) 27 Jul 2018 14:08:35
Enjoy the football that's coming our way.

7.) 27 Jul 2018 16:08:44
Mate, I'm not stating that Bruce plays the style of football that i like to watch but if it can get us back in the premiere then I can live with it for the time being. I just think that at this particular point in time that Bruce was our best option given what was on the table, several games down the line if things are not going well he could be replaced but that would of stood true if Henry got the job. This type of thing happens at every club it's how football is these days. You can be certain of many changes at the club in the coming season and Bruce may well be one of them but I honestly believe he is our best chance of going up at this point.

8.) 27 Jul 2018 19:41:38
I don't understand the logic that Bruce is our best chance of returning to the premier. We didn't do it last time and are considerably weaker this time. We have lost a third of the team with what could be argued a better third. Your optimism doesn't add up to me.

9.) 27 Jul 2018 21:15:11
And if Henry would of took over what squad would he be playing with?
the same one that Bruce has got now! and the one you admit yourself is far weaker than last seasons.

So what logic would there of been in Henry coming in with just a week or so to go, costing money for his own contract, money for Bruce to be paid off when we are already fighting FFP, plus the added upheaval of all the manager and staff changes, and Henry left facing a season with having no cash to buy his own choice of players and very little knowledge of the players that he has got at his disposal?

10.) 27 Jul 2018 21:53:16
If Henry was coming in with no hinderance from FFP and a substancial war chest of cash it would be an whole new ball game, unfortunately that wasn't going to be the case so like I said at this point in time in my opinion Bruce seemed to be our best option.

11.) 27 Jul 2018 21:53:19
Get your head out of bruces bck side. we needed a change but we stuck with for now if your happy watching hoof ball then that's your fault others want to see attacking football with a plan b N c an youth coming threw the owners will see what most of us villa fans see every sat, Tuesday, an mark my words I hope he doesn't get sack when we go on a bad run ; if it had been some 1 else with a better cv he would be gone . I'm behind villa 100 percent I just want to see good football not stoneage football, no1 plays football like we do its not good at all, Henry should of got the job in my view but it's done now an i'm fine with it, chairmen should make him play attractive footy.

12.) 27 Jul 2018 22:14:23
Seems like 67% of the fans are happy with Bruce for the time being along with the all important new owners so your opinion was minority. By the way whilst I had my head up Bruce's arse I spotted youself, you piece of shit! Lol.

24 Jul 2018 16:20:27
The fact that Henry left good jobs suggests to me that the new owners have had a strategic plan for more time than we may think. I wouldn't be surprised if Henry moves in the same London circles as the owners, hence the rumours have been about for a few days. These men are a serial success story, I can't see people like them know the word failure. Unfortunately for Steve he is now on a hiding to nothing, if he does keep his job a couple of poor results and he will be gone this pressure is unfair, for this reason it will be better for change now,

hopeful

1.) 25 Jul 2018 01:37:17
Careful what you wish for hopeful, i'm not sure namby-pamby football is what you need in the championship, although i'm sure he'll teach the lads how to fall over when a gust of wind blows by, they'll be rolling round like neymar and claiming for handball even before the ref blows the whistle, he's a cheating no good actor with no management experience, if that's what you think we need, fair enough fella.

2.) 25 Jul 2018 08:13:44
Classof82. Your comments are ridiculous (like 75% of your comments) . Bruce cost Villa promotion last season with his dire tactics and inability to do anything other than make 'like for like' subs. Henry will now attract players Villa couldn't normally in our position. Henry is a born winner and makes sure he succeeds at all costs. For me his winning mentality is very welcome at VP.

3.) 25 Jul 2018 12:49:17
Who ever is in charge of our club has my support . whether that be Brucie or Henry

Class of 82, didn’t namby pamby football in the form of wolves run away with the title last year?

I will also add that all professional footballers are big girls blouses rolling around the floor not just Neymar

Everyone needs a chance . Pep Guardiola’s first job in football was Barcelona manager experience counts for not a lot .

If the owners want to make changes then they can it’s there ball they can do as they wish.

4.) 25 Jul 2018 13:07:05
Classof82, most of us do try and have a balanced view on here after all we all want the same thing, however daft speculation like yours serves no purpose. Whilst you defend Steve just remember the three results that probably cost us promotion, ie. Norwich QPR Bolton were purely down to him, at a time when Cardiff and Fulham were flying we rolled over, I for one won't forget this and don't won't a repeat.

5.) 25 Jul 2018 14:45:23
Personally I will be glad when we find out the fate of bruce or Henry,
It's getting boring now waiting,

6.) 25 Jul 2018 16:38:52
Soon very soon.

7.) 26 Jul 2018 01:12:28
For all of you lot on here slating brucie, yeah he has made mistakes, but once the players cross the line its their responsibilty to put into effect what the plan is, as for henry attracting top players, don't be daft, any top player would only come to us for the moula, and with ffp that ain't going to happen, bearing in mind they need to be scouted, sounded out and a deal negotiated, and the little problem that all these 'top' players are on their jolly holidays, wake up and smell the reality, henry is untried and untested, and i'd say his loyalty is only to his reflection in the mirror;but fair play, if you boys want to dream on that we're attract the cream of europe in 2 weeks, get a system in place and have them playing cohesively as unit in that time then fair play to you, i like your positivity, i'll stick with bruce and his record, it may not be fantasy football, but its a damn site more practical, let's just get ourselves promoted this season, whether it be by winning with style, or grinding it out, who cares, once promoted then we can look again at improving-just one more thing, i was talking to one of the pigeons at the bmh, and it cooed to me that the owners are favouring an open brief on brucie, that is, if we're in the mix at christmas with the fans happy-all good in the 'hood, if we're struggling and the fans not happy, then steve will be at home over christmas carving the turkey, what do say to that kingy?, or have those pigeons been spreading fake news!

Don't shoot me I am only the messenger from a source close to the grealish family if anything below proves to be bs let me have the pelters

New owners fully aware and sanctioned deal
Spurs aware that out finances have improved
We have received a fair price
Loads of add-ons lots more cash in the future

I am confident that we will start next season intact. Whilst not a Bruce fan I think he owes us and along with the remaining players needs to show us his wealth of experience and start the next campaign in a positive mood. We all know that struggling businesses need to sell any valuable asset in order to survive, it's inevitable that we will lose our best players.

My biggest concern is that Bruce will now have to introduce some if not all of our best young talent, if any of these shine as I am sure they will, they will then become "valuable" assets and the sale will then be inevitable because of our precarious financial position. I appreciate this is a doomsday position, however we will not be the first or last club to find ourselves in this position. Dr X please do the right thing by our famous club and try to do everything to give us a chance to maintain our credibility, loyal fans deserve this. VTID.

It appears that the only transfer that is certain (only because this is the only move the player wants) is Jack. Everything else is pure speculation. We obviously play Monday night any player that is likely to make us a better team needs to be in now. No good us having a poor start with what we currently have, no one is going to be keen to join us then.

Message to the owners, Bruce Mendes get players in now forget all this speculation, forget the smoke and mirrors with the press. Put up or shut up. If we have to work with what we have then focus on this and get ready for Monday.

It would be nice to hear someone at villa park to dismiss these talks with spurs or admit Jack might be going,
All these stories seem to be coming from London papers or spurs blogs.

2.) 01 Aug 2018 14:19:37
I'd be surprised if, 2 days before the season kicks off we are genuinely negotiating the sale of our best player BUT. If this is happening, I assume it will be for a significant fee. Spurs expected to pick Grealish up last minute for 15-20M due to our financial concerns, those no longer exist so if our valuation is 35M, then they will have to meet that, simple as.

If that does happen and Grealish wants to go then I wouldn't begrudge him the move, the lad deserves better than Aston Villa can offer at this stage.

My only concern is will we be allowed to reinvest the money? If yes and we can strengthen the squad significantly then its a win win for both parties, if not keep Grealish as he alone could drag us to promotion.

31 Jul 2018 21:05:13
If as looks likely Woodburn joins Sheffield it's possible and usual for hosts clubs to stipulate that the loanee providing there is no injuries must play a certain percentage of games, Sheffield may have been happier to do this than Villa, just a thought why he went there rather than us.

I know it sounds sad but Friday nights I drink with a couple of mates who happen to be bluenoses, when the story first broke with our financial demise I have never seen such a massive smirk on the faces when I walked in the pub, it's all they could talk about all night. It's Karma that on the day we officially get the all clear from the EFL that small heath have their transfer embargo confirmed and their financial position is far far worse than ours ever was. It's quite sad really (I don't think) that no matter what happens at Villa Park we can always be grateful that we were born claret and blue and can get immense satisfaction that we always seem to be able to rub their noses in the proverbial claret and blue.

Hopeful, the club I use, is full of them . Very funny, as you say not a lot of football talk lately. Funny with the noses, when there’s more than one of them, they love to rip you apart, if you react they say it’s just banter . Now this one sided banter, can wear you down after a few years . So if any of you live, anywhere near, the Marston Green Social, we could do with more Villa supporters . As you say nice the way it worked out . The day we get new (Extreamly rich ) owners, we find noseville is worse off than we where .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

Want to the game last night, positives from the evening, M6 was clear so a quick journey, the beer in the ground was cold and the pies were hot, lovely evening to watch football, positives end there. I accept it was a friendly and it's difficult to judge however players don't pass differently whatever the football. Friendlies give you the opportunity to try different attacking options, a lone Kodja shows nothing. Accepting all of the caveats associated with friendlies it was an extremely poor show. I hope the majority the wanted Bruce to stay stick by him, because us doubters will not waiver and as soon as the new guys see what we see change will come quickly.

1.) 26 Jul 2018 14:15:57
Well said hopeful, agree with all mate.
My post last night reiterates everything you have said, all I got was a snidey remark.
The camp is spit for sure.

2.) 26 Jul 2018 18:02:42
I still can't believe he kept his job don't know what sum villa fans see its quite amazing really but we have to stick by him an hopefully he will change doubt it, Bruces needs to pray we get off to a good start else it's p45 time, fans won't save him nxt time.

3.) 26 Jul 2018 18:08:03
Thats why this site is good, but some people are obsessed with Bruce they get grumpy it's like they think he won us the league.

22 Jul 2018 22:54:36
What about a quick poll [exit or remain] to show the new guys how the majority of us fans feel about the manager

hopeful

{Ed033's Note -

Villa Manager Poll

1.) 23 Jul 2018 10:58:13
Interesting result so far:

Exit (33%, 13 votes)
Remain (67%, 26 votes)

If he does go, I can' see that replacing him with someone with no management experience (such as Henry) would be very helpful.

2.) 23 Jul 2018 12:25:36
Democracy works, I acknowledge I am in the minority in wanting change. I for one will be happy to get behind the manager if change does not come, however Bruce needs to take a good hard look at the way football has changed, hoof ball is not acceptable no matter what the results say. Big Sam, Moyes mad Mick are all out of work because of their style of play. None of them were relegated yet fan power prevailed. So Steve if you want everyone to get behind you look at your style of play, it hasn't got us prompoted and it hasn't entertained, football is an entertainment business, it's not about your reputation as a so called experienced manager.

3.) 23 Jul 2018 12:47:35
I don't get the argument that because we need stability Bruce should remain in charge. The simple facts are Bruce is a man manager, not a coach, and as a result may have an unsuitable squad for his skill set come the beginning of the season.

We need a manager that can improve our talented youngsters - And Bruce is not this manager.

4.) 23 Jul 2018 13:23:42
Bring in Henry in a coaching/ development role (to get his badges) To have someone of his standing would bode well in tempting players to come to the Villa.

5.) 23 Jul 2018 14:48:15
Just seen the Birmingham mail poll, much larger votes than this poll and the results are similar, so it's clear the majority want IBWT, this message will obviously get through to the new owners so perhaps they will give it time before making any changes, so open message to Steve, "if they want you to stay it doesn't mean some of us fans want the same style of play, if you are to stay grasp the chance and build a team around what many of us fans want, exciting entertaining football and to restore some pride back in the club we love"

6.) 23 Jul 2018 17:15:19
39 votes?
Very difficult to draw a conclusion from such a tiny cross section.
I know it's a cross section but!8@?

7.) 23 Jul 2018 17:52:52
I said keep Bruce because I honestly don't see better options for the squad we have.
We only have a few top passers of the ball and one of those is almost guaranteed to be leaving. This means that a tip tap game won't suit us, Kodjia will get isolated and frustrated.
Bruce tried to play 3 very attacking midfielders behind the front man every time he could. The main issues I saw were players dropping too deep, not trying hard enough to find space or just constantly playing the safe sideways/ backwards ball.
I blame coaches for not working on fitness levels enough but Bruce can only do so much to encourage the players to not play with fear.

ChrisAVFC your loyalty is honourable, however I feel if he fails as you mention against Middlesboro you like others will want to give him one final chance. He has had enough time and chances, now is the time for change, no more chances. We are one of the poorest sides to watch nothing is improving, in fact it is getting worse. Other clubs have recently acted decisively we must do the same and it needs doing now. Doctor T needs to hear this clearly and act now, no more second (third, fourth, fifth. ) chances.
