so all the rumours & speculation is over with the transfer window being shut. I honestly reckon this has been our best window since when we bought in ashley young and others in that one massive spend that lerner did when he first took over. think with 2 new CB's coming in, I wanna see micah transition back into that RB position which would complete and make our starting back line very strong(amavi,ilori/clark/okore,lescott,richards)
although I am disappointed that a ST wasnt bought in because that is the only position that I'm worried about, I actually reckon that ayew will score more then gestede this year and think ayew will become good and hit 10+ goals this year in the BPL.
thoughts on the window in general???

Totally agree Micah should go to rb then we have okore/ilori and clark/lescott fighting for centre back spots

2.) 01 Sep 2015 22:21:00
Richards was brought in as a centre back, ts likes bacuna so I believe he will play there more often, Richards and lescott at the back for me

3.) 02 Sep 2015 01:35:32
Think we've made great strides in shoring up the backline, which is key. Like most, I am disappointed that we didn't add a striker. It's a shame Berbatov was unreasonable, as I think he could have done a job with his experience for a year. To be honest, any proven striker would have been a good addition. I'm also slightly disappointed we were in conversations with Anderlecht and didn't do a deal for Praet while at it. I do wonder what this means for Siegrist. With Siegrist & now Sarkic, as well as 3 keepers in the first team (Guzan, Steer and Bunn) will we be moving any of them on? I'm also curious as to the terms of the new contracts for Clark, Baker and Bennett. I'm assuming Sherwood is trying make sure we don't lose them for nothing and can hopefully generate some revenue. I can't see Baker having a future if he's going out on loan at 24. With Amavi on the books Bennett's future doesn't look to bright either. I do worry that we're going to struggle for goals but am far more optimistic about the coming season and do believe that Sherwood won't let us find ourselves in another relegation battle.

4.) 02 Sep 2015 02:03:24
Well business done just hope when we report back January were not crapping our selves again, best signings IMO Adama,Amavi,Gueye,Richards and perm signing Sinclair. Ayew,Gestede, vertout taking time ATM. Lescot I think can be great for us and the loanee from Liverpool I've seen scousers going mental of our capture so looking forward to seeing them in action, many of us probs disappointed no striker brought in but it is what it is now so onwards upwards. just a thought with TS bringing in fair few CB's could the a possible formation change 3CB's Amavi,Bacuna wingbacks as both can play those positions. anyway best of luck villa see you all January no doubt lol :))

seen a few rumours today saying that the adebayor deal is dead so thank god for that. also, I've looked at sherwood's recent comments about gabby and I reckon he also knows the bloke has lost it - if he believed in him on the pitch wouldn't he back up the players ability and say the goals will come? saying that he is a major part in the back room shows to me that sherwood sees him more as a motivator and not a player who have an effect for us. it is sad to see gabby go down this far in his goal scoring but everyone has there day I guess no matter what loyalty they show to a club.

don't know about anyone else but I don't want lescott anywhere near our club. yes he has experience but the chap is 33 years old meaning his legs are gone and I haven't rated him for the past 3 years. yes so he supported villa when he was growing up then why is it whenever he scored against us he always over-celebrated (remember that back flip he did in the 3-2 away win at Everton-god I love that game). also if I recall when he moved to baggies we were also interested in bringing him in yet he binned us off. getting the feeling that lescott isn't in pulis's plans and he is trying to ride the train with "oh but I've always loved the club and supported them as a boy"
I don't care why bring in lescott when we already have 4 CB's with hopefully abdennour coming in. WHY GET CLARK & BAKER ON NEW DEALS IF HE WANTED A NEW CB ANYWAY?????

Yeah he celebrated, but don't some villains sing the bus song at him??red rag to bull etc?as for slow and legs gone, check out his stats from the last 2 years, not too shabby!i would take him because his experience gives him a 5 to 10 yard advantage, and what about all the little dark arts he can teach Clark, baker et all,for me priceless, and he'd be a calming influence on the pitch and in the changing room, the boys got class, and you can't buy class,he'll be worth every penny, and help Micah to become a better player and captain because of the mutual respect there, you'll end up thinking how we got by without him in a few months time, believe!! Oh yeah just to confirm you thinking I'm another spoon head on here,''Mourinho's just a Portuguese imitation of Tim Sherwood!!!''champion league 2 years away,BELIEVE IN STEVE!!!!!!!

2.) 25 Aug 2015 09:13:05
If John Terry is surplus to defensive requirements at Stanford Bridge, perhaps he’d care for a loan spell shoring up our central defence – anyone adept at scything down Albion strikers gets my vote .

3.) 25 Aug 2015 15:39:44
would love Terry at villa

24 Aug 2015 00:12:11
don't know if I'm being too ambitious here but I have a feeling that we might be in for berahino. if you think about it logically, he is young & english and a goal scoring BPL proven ST. seems like a sherwood-esc kind of buy and with all the rumours we have been linked with it wouldn't surprise me if we were one of the clubs knocking on the door. know we are going up against Spurs who are a much bigger attraction but you never know.
thoughts????

1.) 24 Aug 2015 05:26:59
Apparently Tony Pulis has said that 15 teams are interested in signing him, so it wouldn’t surprise me. I’m not sure we have the financial clout to ward off 14 other teams and they might be reluctant to sell to us being rivals. If we can get him at a reasonable price, I think it would be a good acquisition. We need someone who is very quick to partner Gestede/Kozak and make us more effective on the counter attack - like a good version of gabby!

2.) 24 Aug 2015 14:58:53
how many young and english players did TS buy to make you thing he's after young and english??? Your just plucking a ST out of the air.

3.) 24 Aug 2015 16:18:19
if I recall ruggerz- sherwood mentioned earlier in the window that he is looking for english players but is being priced out of them. I would say that bringing in berahino (BPL goal scorer) for let's say around 20 million isn't really asking for to high of a price or pricing him out(considering how much a BPL proven goal scorer is worth in today's market eg benteke & bony went for over 25 million). everyone wants austin to come in(including me) but I believe that spending the extra 8/10 million on someone like berahino is worth it due to his age & ability to develop and let's be honest get one over the baggies.

22 Aug 2015 17:38:57
I love sherwood with all my heart but today he got it completely wrong- first half in some portions of the game we had palace on the ropes and should have pushed for that goal. second half palace outclassed us no-denying but why would you bring off the rock when he was our best player??? no attacking threat yet again which is a major concern of mine and let's be fair our goal was luck(fantastic run but lucky none the less) and sako's goal has just pounded into me that we do need a new GK. guzan is a good shot stopper but I don't feel confident when he comes to collect crosses and he can't dispurse a ball at all.
I have posted a few times about how gabby has seemingly gone through a sex change over the last 5 years and is no where near good enough but jesus he is awful- I know he is a villa legend but I don't care move him on.
a great example would be lampard who is the best player chelsea have ever had yet they let him go when they knew he was off the pace and they wanted to bring through a new generation(bit like what's going on with us)
the bloke has to leave our club or not play any more games because he literally offers nothing - WHY BRING IN AYEW AND SINCLAIR WHEN YOU ARE going to PLAY GABBY (WHO SCORES 4 EVERY YEAR) INSTEAD. FEEL LIKE THE CLUB THINK WE LOVE HIM BUT LET'S BE FAIR WE HAVE KNOWN HE IS PANTS FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS

1.) 22 Aug 2015 18:28:07
Totally agree ayew needs games and should start he's a striker not a winger should av save 10m added 5m and got austin if we're not using him
In 4 seasons gabby has score about 17 goals that is awful return
Sher wood got it completely wrong today I am worried

2.) 22 Aug 2015 19:47:05
Got to agree and I said to my mate begining season Gabby should be bench impact player when oppo defenders tired he could then do some damage, today's result was blame on both not just Guzan,Amavi shouldn't done 1 on 1 although Guzan put him in awkward position, strikers were all talking about yep, well Wilson who we was linked month or so ago I think would fit villa with new signings, not just because today banging in hatrick I've watched all 3 bournemouths games that guy works his a** off and shown glimpses so far,I understand it might be a gamble unproven in EPL but if we get him Bournemouth will be weaker and then with Sunderland we might only have to worry about 1 relegation spot lol

3.) 22 Aug 2015 22:35:26
Bournemouth will not sell Wilson for same reason Watford wouldn't sell Deeney or Ighalo (both look decent), not getting relegated will make them £££ more than any sale would. Shame as he is a good young prospect (got him in my fantasy team); unless Ayew comes good this week I'm putting my hat in the Austin camp.

4.) 22 Aug 2015 23:13:56
gabby is rubbish. he will continue to not score goals as he has done for 4 years. I've never seen a player keep his place in a team for so many years under so many different managers and not to do his job. he must score hundreds of goals in training. also afraid of tim like lambert over rating Ashley westwood. don't need 3 in midfield that just limits the attacking options. 2 could do the job. if we bring in a striker and get the formation right I still think we have good enuf players to make an impact this season and push on. but if gabby starts all season we will not score. simple as.

5.) 22 Aug 2015 23:34:52
Any team will sell if the price is right unless (buy outs) fee release,We was linked with Wilson month, month half ago for around 8-10 mil my mem serves me right so now after his 3 games may well be over inflated price say 12-15 mil, personally I would take that any day over Austin,2 failed medicals over knee issues apparently 15mil,surely by now he would of been snapped up if that quality and potential there's obviously something there clubs reluctant to buy +wages

6.) 22 Aug 2015 23:47:48
Gabby is no legend just a faithful loyal servant to the fans, club we have had our legends yrs gone bye but there's only so much now you can keep playing a player out of form out of sorts in EPL,time to drop to bench shake him up maybe,I know it's controversial with so many fans but points make prizes, can't afford to be playing 10 men week in week out on pitch

7.) 23 Aug 2015 13:07:09
I agree with everyone Gabby is not good enough anymore.
We need a proven scorer in the premiership.
Remy, Austin, Hernandez.
A new GK may also be needed, Guzan year after year makes mistakes with distribution of the ball.
Everytime it gets passed back to him i get worried.

after the WBA game, sherwood quotes himself in the third person saying he is best when he is backed into a corner. saw many villa fans on social media replying to that in a joking sense and calling him a "lad" and all that. but I'm sorry, this is awful. yes it is a work in process but we have thrown away so many points already and have such a hard run in for the next two months. don't wanna sound crazy but if we lose to blues and have lost 3 derbies in 14 days then the pressure is on sherwood. don't care if the bloke is a "lad" and funny but if he stays and it results in my beloved club getting relegated at the end of the season will the fans still want this "lad" manager in charge?????

seen that all the adebayor rumours are back and please can we bring him in because yet again today we gave away the points.
I know we were 2-0 from two cracking goals but apart from that we didn't show any real threat which needs changing. I DEMAND THAT WE SEE VERETOUT cause the game passed by westwood today and sanchez didn't play too well today either.

{Ed002's Note - He cannot join before January.}

30 Aug 2015 00:52:09
did a post earlier about the game and received a few replies and saw general discussion on social media, with many fans being pleased with the result today because we "had loads of possession" or "looked in control and made chances"
yeah we had 22 shots but yet only scored goal (other goal was a PK) against the worst side in the BPL!
don't know if I'm the only one who is upset by this result but come on we should be putting sunderland to the sword and steaming over them- also seeing many fans saying that westwood is "class" and is amazing as the holding midfielder.
I mean really what does he bring to the team because his passing is hit and miss, his tackling is laughable at times and never contributes with goals or assists and he always gets in the side while veretout and others don't get a sniff. people who compare him to barry are completely deluded because barry was a different beast entirely.
don't wanna come off as being a moaner but come on guys we can't beat the worst side in the BPL at home. in need of a real ST desperately.

1.) 30 Aug 2015 04:04:22
Well, apparently Sherwood has done his hamstring by kicking a stack of water bottles, so I guess he is not entirely happy with the result either. I think it will take a little time after the window closes for Sherwood to really figure out his best squad and get everyone on the same wave length. I think your point about the fans being happy with the result can be taken both ways - No, we should not be happy with a draw at a struggling side, but I think after the years of misery under Lambert where we created nothing most games, 22 shots is shock to the system. I would rather the results not go our way and have a host of chances than just get turned over every week like before. Progress will be slow but I think Sherwood can do it and the results will come.

2.) 30 Aug 2015 12:16:03
I agree with you schmitts about Westwood.
I also agree with you Andy about the way things are going, it will come in time.
We still need a striker though, we could be waiting for Austin as a last minute steal ??

29 Aug 2015 18:33:25
I've been having my doubts about us but we can't even beat the worst team in the league at home. disgraceful that we can't beat sunderland at home because let's be fair they are favourites to go down. lack of leaders, lack of finishing and lack of general ideas from sherwood again. extremely frustrated - NEED A ST
thoughts???

schmitts

1.) 29 Aug 2015 19:50:43
21 shots on goal is great, especially with no Grealish or Adama and with other creative players benched. However, that only 6 of those were on target is not good enough as that is less than 30% accuracy. Also conceding two goals from six shots is poor. I think we are on our way to becoming a good team again but a new striker/central defender would not hurt.

2.) 29 Aug 2015 20:49:39
Defo need new striker right back centre half an keeper

3.) 29 Aug 2015 22:02:06
I agree that a striker is needed but we could have won this game with the players we have. I've said it before and il say it again Ashely westwood is over rated and needs dropped. gana and sanchez controlled that midfield today while Ashely was non existant and popped up every now and then with a bad pass. one which led to their second goal. I wouldn't mind if he played some games because Sherwood and most fans see something I don't In him. but playing 3 in midfield against a side like sunderland especially limits our attacking options. very disappointed this result is worse than the 2 defeats in my eyes. so frustrating to watch

26 Aug 2015 02:12:50
also I want to make a comment on mr joe bennett. when I saw him play in the 2012-2013 season I honestly thought he was the worst full-back I had even seen in BPL history and couldn't actually name a strength to his game. happy to see the back of him when he went out on loan, was very surprised that sherwood kept him considering all the dead wood being sold and very very surprised to see him being given the number 3 shirt especially seeing the arrival of amavi. might seem like I'm jumping on his wagon now he has scored but he seemed more of a "man" and more grown-up when playing tonight and sherwood must like him to keep him around especially when looking at his horrible record and performances for us. I think that we should play him at RB and see what he is about and give him another chance but in a different position.
thoughts?????

schmitts

1.) 26 Aug 2015 07:27:17
No. He's a left back so he needs to play as a left back. Be that a back up one. Why play him at rb then slate the guy if he does not cut it as trying to put round pegs in square holes. A big no no.

2.) 26 Aug 2015 18:25:44
Spot on Kingvilla

3.) 26 Aug 2015 21:01:38
I know amavi is a left back but after seeing him play i think we could give him a go at rb, if you watch him most of the time he's using his right foot, whether its to control the ball, dribbling or passing it, only time I've seen him use his left is to cross it in after he's gone past a player using his right.

Just a thought as i know how dodgy bennett has been in past seasons, but i do rate bacuna i just think he's better elsewhere on the pitch other than rb

4.) 26 Aug 2015 23:25:39
I wouldn't mind seeing Bennett tried as a left winger - he always looked reasonably good going forward, it was the defensive side of his game that wasn't great.

I agree with you but seemingly we are linked with bringing in potentially another ST. we were linked with rondon yet a smaller club have been able to attract him over us. I heavily trust in sherwood and believe he is the right man to take us forward but I cannot believe that wba have looked more attractive a proposition then AVFC.

big fan of the sight and the community and i've made an account to get my opinion & thoughts across- what is going on with our club? we look like complete fruit loops with this whole delph situation & with benteke most likely leaving also. we have a depleting squad with all these exits occurring and the whole positive vibe going into the new season surrounding the club is slowly decaying. we need serious change or else next year could be a long year

I agree with you mike that we should be the 12th man and support the team. however, people saying that "the team needs time to gel" yeah I understand that but how long is that going to take??? let's say they haven't gelled by christmas, by then we could be bottom of the table which means we won't be able to attract any decent players with team morale being very low. all I want as a villa fan for this year is stability, I want to go into the later months knowing that my team won't be dragged into the relegation fight, I agree that some fans are being too downhearted already but they do need to start getting results and seeing out games. personally I think we should be on 8 points right now with a win against sunderland and then two draws against United & palace but our team couldn't cope and in a sense threw those points away. I know it's a project but you can tell if something is going to work early on(except Leicester last year) and I want the confidence that my team will be able to see out results.

I completely agree with you guys - the signings we have bought in have come with highly rated backgrounds and I do believe we have been very swift in the transfer window. I'm just saying that stoke city have signed shaqiri who has won a treble and would have been a perfect buy for us playing on the right side. I'm very happy with our business(mostly with amavi because believe he fills that LB void we have had since bruma) just I wanna see more. so far as I'm speaking we haven't spent any actual money and just wanna see the club show a bit more intent and go out and sign that "woah" player. don't wanna come off as if I'm moaning but just want that signing that makes everyone else take notice that we can push on to that higher level and attract higher caliber stars still.
(chelsea with gullit - everton with lukaku - middlesborough with juninho)

{Ed007's Note - Shaqiri brings a lot of baggage that AV don't need at this time. AV need to become a well organised hard working team and build from there, they don't need another self-serving ego disrupting behind the scenes.}

reckon this year could be huge for gabby because if I'm honest I don't see him in sherwoods plans. I know the bloke is a "legend" of our club and came through the academy but let's be fair the bloke's finishing is decaying every season, he is on huge wages per week and gives us like 4 goals every year.
I've always loved berbatov and thought of him in the highest regard but I don't want him to come in. I would rather see someone like robinson/ sellers be given a chance then bring in berba who will be with us maximum for 2 years.

feel like benteke will be a big miss but vlaar and delph were both inconsistent. delph was hailed as a great player at villa but let's be fair if you look at his statistics he was kind of over- hyped in regards to his quality. he had a very good engine but so has gueye and from what I've seen he seems more confident and effective with the ball. the spine has been ripped out but we finished 17th last year so really a drastic change was needed
