You can't judge most things on pre season friendlies, it's about getting fitness levels right and players getting used to each other. However certain basics are fundamental to playing good football, when you have Taylor on his right foot in front of goal and hasn't got a clue what to do that's inexcusable.

If you have Bree at right back and doesn't know how do go forward. You have Hogan who tries to run around a defender and is five minutes too late. So hopefully Deano has seen enough to make sure average players don't feature this season.

Slightly harsh. think Taylor only had 1 chance on his right foot in front of goal and there were about 8 bodies between them. Can hogan do much more? He’s a centre forward playing right wing and still managed to bag a goal.

2.) 22 Jul 2019 10:50:35
Taylor put his chance on target aswell, can’t help it being blocked by someone.

Everyone used to love Hogans “intelligent runs” and slate Bruce’s football for the reason he couldn’t perform, glad everyone’s starting to realise he makes runs down blind alleys in which Pirlo would struggle to find him. Good lad, hard working but not that great a player.

3.) 22 Jul 2019 21:54:43
Agreed, nobody can expect a defender to score from outside the area with their wrong foot. He looked for a better option and had a go because there wasn't one. Even Jack looks for the pass first in those areas.

If Deano played Bree to put him in the shop window sadly it backfired.

scotcaffu

1.) 18 Jul 2019 06:07:03
He was equally as awful last pre-season. Unfortunately his passing is woeful and his lack of game time results in an extremely poor reading of the game.

2.) 18 Jul 2019 08:59:04
Shame because Bree was very highly rated at Barnsley I thought was quite a coop when we signed him. I think
He was badly managed by the old regime. I think he could of done well had he been better looked after. He may have to take a step backwards to improve his own game. I’d be happy to loan him to a decent championship club where he could get some games under his belt, grow in confidence and flourish.

Anyone heard any news about Mile Jedinak, Alan Hutton or Glen Whelan, I appreciate all three were towards the end of their career, however they were all good professionals and were ultimately victims of our success. I hope they are all able to offer their experience in some form in the near future.

Good call Scot Cafu

Think hutton off to forest
Heard whealan linked with Blackburn
Not heard anything on jedi

I thought Jedi May of been ideal as a player/ coach would offer a lot of premier league experience in this very inexperienced squad. That’s not a complaint about our squad I’m fully in support of the approach we are taking.

22 Apr 2019 17:50:32
Guys guess the team for next Sunday, no Jack no Mcginn no tammy? . My bet would be hutton, elphick, green, Davis, Lansbury will all play, 11 wins would have been good however protect your vital asetts for the playoffs is far more important.

scotcaffu

1.) 23 Apr 2019 12:17:21
And we shouldn't give Leeds any extra knowledge on how we play. We could meet them in the final (fingers crossed we get there)

2.) 06 May 2019 10:05:29
I believe that we will get there and win it. Up the Villa!

01 Mar 2019 21:56:25
The current league table tonite makes depressing reading, so our season is shot so my message to Deano and the players, play with freedom and show us what you can do, we are safe so there's absolutely nothing to lose, let's at least get some pride back.

scotcaffu

1.) 02 Mar 2019 09:14:44
It looks bad but 8 points isn't insurmountable. If the team put everything into a good run then 8 wins and a draw out of the 12 would get us to 70 points which could see us sneak in there.

2.) 02 Mar 2019 13:13:13
Come on mate there's more chance of me winning lotterey.

3.) 02 Mar 2019 14:00:35
I didn't say it was likely but none of the teams standing between us and 6th are setting the league alight either so we shouldn't be throwing the towel in just yet.

4.) 02 Mar 2019 17:12:50
Totally agree rknewell, unlikely but still have that outside chance.

5.) 03 Mar 2019 18:04:50
Win at the cow shed and we go above BCFC.
Forest and Hull play each other so again a win at the cow shed and we can be in 8th.
GD better than Derby who play Wigan and Wednesday and the way they are going they could lose both so we could go 7th.
Lets believe
Our talisman is back, and did we see a more advanced roll for Hourihane?
Mathematically we are ok, we can make it. Every season we have a dip in form and then we rally.
This season is no different.
WE CAN DO IT, BELIEVE! I DO.

6.) 13 Mar 2019 21:59:59
Not so depressing now, is it?

Deano has dropped the wrong full back, obviously Targett was a very poor buy if Taylor keeps him out, we have no attacking threat on the left hand side.

I have just been reading on twitter some of the less than constructive views regarding Wesley, surely two games is at least ten games short of being able to form a fair appraisal. Some of the older fans and certainly the Dave's will remember two players of the past that had very slow starts to their Villa careers, who ultimately turned out to be Villa Favourites, Savo an Angel. Give Wes time to acclimatise to the premier league and how Deano wants him to play and I'm sure he will also turn out to be a fans favourite.
I just hope tomorrow kick starts our season in front of a full house at VP or there will be more players unfairly under the spotlight.

scotcaffu

1.) 22 Aug 2019 19:29:41
I certainly do remember scotty.
Another that springs to mind although not a villa player was Didier Drogba, took ages to settle.

2.) 22 Aug 2019 20:29:41
The problem with those comparisons is that they were both brought in while we already had a first choice so they had time to settle, we were also a a top team for the most part. Wesley is under huge pressure from day one. First choice, big money, comparisons to Benteke and the task of keeping us up after a few years in the wilderness.
I think he'll come good, just a very different situation. Fingers crossed he's a Tekkers and not a Helenius.

3.) 22 Aug 2019 21:10:42
While I can agree with you in part, I have to say along with the press, we are the people putting him under pressure with our impatience and unrealistic expectations.
I do think he needs to toughen up a bit, stay on his feet, and use his physique a bit more.
I say leave him alone, he will improve.

4.) 22 Aug 2019 21:11:54
Does anybody else think that an. iam talking about even me here because we have been relegated b4 that we are now really scared its gona happen again so we are judging qwick. If we was a prem club an we hadnt gone down would we be going on about relegation and slating players after 2 games? We are all very fearful of relegation and we are jumpin the gun a bit iam guilty aswel. You look at norwich didn't buy anybody everybody said there gone but they have a better chance of staying up than us and I tell you why because they are playing with no pressure at all the fans are like if we go down then oh wel if we stay up great. With villa its like we must stay up we must perform well and i know people don't like him but micah richards said when we went down before the players were scared to play at villa park that simply can't happen. People in the holte by me say yea but we are Aston Villa we should be beating Bournmouth we should been going for better players its reality time we are a poor prem side who went up through the back door we havnt got paul merson or dion dublin or paul mcgrath yes those players were great but we are simply not that Aston Villa anymore our foccus is staying up every season. Wesley is not Benteke Wesley is Wesley and will try his heart out only time will tell if these players are good enough but let's make Villa Park more relaxed to play at if we go down then so what its not the be and end all we can't win the prem anyway as man city have it like 4eva until they want to stop out spending so let's just enjoy it.

5.) 22 Aug 2019 21:58:46
Like I have said its us and the press who are at fault.
Because we are Aston Villa means jack rubbish.
Never take anything for granted, we are 11 men called Aston Villa.
I refuse to talk about us going down, I have no doubt at all that we will have a good season, obviously with some ups and downs.
We will overcome and grow, give it time.

6.) 23 Aug 2019 03:11:43
We need to start picking picking points up soon but were ok at the moment not expecting anything 2moz il take a point thou.

19 Aug 2019 16:21:09
Just read Hogan's views on his time at villa, apparently he didn't enjoy his experience at all. Got news for you, you have one vote we have thousands and our view is our experience of you was less than enjoyable. You say you do to want to come back, mate we don't want you back. You have scored one goal at Stoke and all of a sudden you are enjoying football. They will soon find out, what we found out, you ain't very good mate, good riddance.

scotcaffu

1.) 19 Aug 2019 17:35:13
Totally agree scotty, I am a bit embarrassed to be honest as I have said before.
I was spouting his support early days and to be fair he has made me feel a bit of a ptratt.
Get rid I say ASAP, you are clearly not wanted Hogan.

17 Aug 2019 18:27:12
So first the positives, ok not too many, I think Deano thinks we are still in the championship, Jack. McGinn Elghazi Taylor Elmo were all found out today which is really worrying. Wes showed some promising touches, Ming's and Engels were our best two players today, nothing on the bench to change things. If I was the owner I would be asking what have I got for 130 million and why can't a 15 million left back replace the most average short arce ineffective full back in the league, I have been to both games and seen enough to see it's going to be a long long season. McGinn can't expect quality defenders to fall for his arce first approach, he gave the ball away far too many times. This should be a wake up call, teams will not show us any respect and losing can become a habit. It's only how I see it.

15 Aug 2019 15:59:30
Kodja our for next few games according to Deanos press conference and on his way according to various press reports, either way we are now short upfront and many on here were already concerned about the lack of quality back up strikers. There is no way of can operate with just Wes and Davies as the only main strike force. An injury to Wes and we are in the brown and smelly. Any ideas who could step up to the plate as a main striker. Sturridge suddenly looks appealing.

scotcaffu

1.) 15 Aug 2019 16:41:27
Relax scotty mate, Kodjia ain`t going anywhere just yet.
And fitness wise could possibly be ready for the Everton game, fingers crossed.
I have no doubt that Trez could do exactly what Kodjia does if given the task, this squad is full of hungry players eager to get in the side.
And I am confident we will get our striker in January.
I am sure you agree Deano is not an idiot, and there must have been some underlying reason why we never got Maupay in.
He has someone in mind for sure, who I am not sure.

2.) 15 Aug 2019 16:59:00
Dave unfortunately January is a long way off and Kodja isn't the answer now anyway.

Kenn the brutal realty is he was probably to good with a sharp brain for those around him at small heath, hence he didn't fit in and wasn't a first choice starter.

TOV, bit naive if you don't mind me saying we are short in more than the Ch position, that wouldn't solve all our problems.

Kenn if you get chance watch Deanos press conference, he has gone on record as saying players not playing have to earn the earn the shirt and prove they are better than the players they expect to replace. This is code for Targett and Guilbert aren't good enough. The worrying thing for me is that a £15 mill left back can't displace a weak short arce. Marvelous is not the player he thought he was getting and Guilbert can't defend. So all the optimistic guys on here expecting changes are going to be disappointed tomorrow. Deano I am sure you know what you are doing and on this basis suggests you have not bought as wisely as we all first thought otherwise the teams most fans would select would be in tomorrow.

Kenn looks good to me however having just lost our opening games and no points on the board I believe Deano will play safe (read in to that no attacking fullbacks) so Elmo and Taylor are almost certain to play. To be fair Elmo probably deserves to be in, Taylor should never have started the season in the team. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hourihane in the stating 11, ( would not be my choice I hasten to add) but I think it will be Heaton Elmo Engels Ming's Taylor Hourihane Jack McGinn Luiz Trez Wes.

Brian Clough, Graham Souness, Gordon Strachan were amongst the worst nanagers/ coaches renowned for bullying, times have changed. I know a footballer who worked under Kevin Mac and he accepted he was exceptionally tough with the players, modern parlance may be called bullying, however I understand his intentions were intended to benefit Aston Villa, not himself. I think Kevin was old school and sadly he probably won't be able the work in football again, which is a shame. I understand Aston Villa needed to act to defend their reputation, however it has destroyed another.
