BBC Mica Richards article regarding what it's like to watch your career slipping down the toilet. Granted, he was getting paid to do nothing, but also a sobering perspective on fans behaviour - notably ours.

Anyone can fall into lost mind and soul I suffer with depression don't ask me why or how it's just hit me over night I'm now on the funny tablets and know how easy it can come on hope Micah don't get into this situation I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. People say positivity is good but how can you be positive when you know you have nothing to look forward to? I suppose I'm lucky really I have a lovely family who I adore but some people have no one. Mental illness should be made more aware by all the top clubs and I'm also guessing that most teams will have people who they can turn too so whatever your life throws at you always remember that there is someone always worse off than you easier said than done right?

Why didn't he retire if he knew he couldn't play he said I could only train not play so why stay ripping the club off for 3 years when he knew he would never play? don't feel sorry for anybody earning 60k a week. He could of retired and trainned to be a coach or a manager keeping his mind active aswel as staying in the game. Depression is out there but he never had it he had 60k a week to keep him happy.

Thanks Dr Walkies. I'm sure your experience in clinical psychiatry came in handy in that insightful assessment of Mica's mental health 😊.

Let's put this in to perspective WTW if you couldn't go down VP anymore or go to away matches what would do that to your mind? If you couldn't do something that you love doing what would that do to your mind? Your comment is a true reason why things need to be done on mental illness.

I have to agree with the understanding approach by you guys, villadaz has fist hand experience so is in a better position to understand. Self help can also contribute in the healing process and when such large sums of money are involved it's easy to see why there are cynical views. I wish Mica well for the future and hope things improve. I just hope if ever Ross McCormick has the audacity to open his heart up, that he doesn't get the same level of sympathy we are showing to Mica.

Cheers Scot the hardest part is to admit to it and talk to your family don't be afraid getting things off your chest does help like Micah has done like Merston done like Tony Adams done and so on yes they also had addictions but what caused them to their addictions? Mental illness help wasn't as rife then as it is today. Hope eds don't mind me mentioning this but if anyone has any problems at work or home for that matter then then there is a charity called Ben which can help we all don't have the money to get professional help like famous people but in the end everyone Shxt stinks the same pardon the expression.

Mental health is all we seem to be hearing and reading about nowadays.
Sentiments and feelings go out to genuine sufferers.
What annoys me is every problem people have in their lives now gets labelled as a mental health issue, and that they need support.
Life in general is tough, we all know that, we all get hard up at times, we all lose loved ones, and people lose jobs.
That is called life, take a look into the past and where you came from, they had it really hard.
Just my take on it.

Agree Dave Times was harder years ago and people just got on with it no matter what troubles and strives through at them. But unfortunately times change Dave people's expectations are far greater now than they were then. I also agree that people get labelled with having Mental illness for the most remotest of things and for their own safe gain. But what goes on in people's minds only they will know. I was a happy go lucky kind of guy not a trouble in the world then 1 morning bang it hit me like a lead balloon you can brush things under the carpet and hope they go away or tackle them head on but believe me Dave anything can just trigger it off just like me.

Daz mate, what people expect of me and what they get are two different things, and that`s it, never mind peoples expectations.
I got up one morning and learned later that day that my dear Wife has got cancer.
Not long after that I had a Heart attack, not great but as our family have always said, "it is what it is".
I could tell you a lot Daz, as lots of other people could,
You have to face it head on mate and turn the tables.

Reading the comments above does it matter if we lose a game of football, not at all, does it matter that we have a release in following our team with passion, you bet it does.

Dave very sorry to hear about yourself and wifes health
May you both get well soon and I know from personal experiences what you are going though.
My thoughts are with you and your dear wife.
All you can do is take each day as it comes.
A win today will hopefully put a smile on both your faces.
Take care mate.

Thank you one and all, we are nearly 4 years down the line from all of that, my wife has had chemo, and is now in remission, I am on daily meds and we are all hunky-dory to be honest.
I was trying to make the point that any day can throw up anything at anytime.
