Been thinking long and hard about this, why are we so quick to jump on Engels not being good enough? He played 16 games last season, had a few injuries, made a few mistakes, but I'd be hoping that once he's fit which should be as soon as for the Stoke game, he'll have learned from last year, if you think about it he's got 16 games more experience in the Prem than any of the centre halves we've been linked with? Another way I'd look at it too, and a small silver lining of this C.V. stuff, no fans getting on any players back if they 'eff up, and I'm ashamed to admit it, as a fan base we're 1 of the worst for that? Give Engels a chance to prove some of you wrong, a Konsa/ Mings partnership is the way we're going and i'm happy with that, the money to replace Engels should he go needs to be spent elsewhere imo, give it till January at least with some of our fringe players, I agree with many about El Ghazi, he needs a new challenge, would be good for him and for Villa if he moved on, and thanks for the memories 👍🏻

UTV.

I agree with that Ally, to be fair I like Engels, he is one of the quickest players at VP, And like you say that little bit of experience will help him, apart from a couple of mistakes, he looked a fair player.
All players make mistakes, Luiz was pretty average to start with, and now everyone rants about him.
We are too quick to condemn players, remember Veratout, scored 2 for Roma against Juventus tonight.

To be fair Ally, most of what I see from fans is supportive of Engels, he seems pretty well liked. He started last season well, and we were all hopeful he’d work out. It’s the number of injuries that has been the issue, and the number of times we’ve then had Hause at RCB, which is a disaster waiting to happen. Also not sure he has the pace for the EPL.

Engels as with all players has his pluses and minuses on the positive side he is good in the air and is a menace in the oppositions box at set pieces but from a negative point of view he doesn’t read the game particularly well is not comfortable on the ball ( I accept that with an old fashioned type of centre back that wouldn’t normally be an issue but given we want to play out from the back it is) and he also has concentration issues and as we have seen those concentration issues lead to mistakes and consequently to goals. Overall I don’t think he is premier league quality which is why I think we are looking for another centre back as if anything happens to Mings or Konsa the cupboard is bare.
