82, in reply to your post lower down, you mention dropping Watkins, what the bloody hell has he done wrong mate.
He has the makings of a very good striker indeed, and left alone.
The bloke had a quite game agreed, but his service was poor again on the night.
Also without VAR, and in a game of football without the use of geometry and calibrated lineage that goal would have stood, no question.

Dave I agree Watkins had a quiet game but I think that was as much as anything due to the fact that we had nobody busting a gut to get either up with him or as Barkley has done in previous games go beyond into the space Watkins running into the channels creates. I know hindsight is a marvellous thing but I wonder if Hourihane was the right choice to replace Barkley he hasn’t the pace or the guile to fulfil that role.

I am not knocking Watkins John, and I have said his service was not there last night, what I am asking classof82, is why he has suggested dropping him.
Also BK has left him out of his named team, Why.
If it was not for Watkins goals, we would not be where we are in the table, that`s a fact.
Some people are so bloody critical, thoughts, views and critisism are all well and good, but justification surely should be explained.

Penalty was shocking mind, but should never have been allowed to take it having missed 3 of the last five.

Never should be dropped in a million years, has quiet spells in games but comes alive at the right time, was hard done by last night with his goal.

Villadave-hope your keeping well; as for Watkins, as you rightly say everything has gone through him and he is adjusting very well, but sometimes a player needs protecting and with Ollie I feel he needs a game or 2 as a sub so he is rested, his contribution and work ethic have been great, I just don't want him to get an injury and for us to be left stuffed up front, and as a side note, surely it's a good idea to see how we get on for those occasions when Watkins isn't playing for whatever reason?

Sorry 82, I can see you point now, and a good one it is mate.
So yes I totally agree, we should not be depending on one striker anyway, its a huge burden to carry.

VillaDave, just to stress mate, totally agree on Watkins. The point I was trying to make with the squad was the positions marked by XXXXX are ones we need options - Maybe didn't come across in my post, Watkins is an exceptional player in my eyes but he needs competition and maybe a rest occasionally. The positions marked by XXXX are merely where I'd like to see investment, I wouldn't drop the rest.
