Did anyone listen to talk sport this morning when one Villa fan said we should get Roy Keane or Dwight Yorke in as manager, seriously, what goes though some peoples minds?

Anyway, how bad was we last night? With SG in charge we are sleepwalking into a relegation battle. Not one of those players looked like rhey were enjoying their football, they looked like strangers.
He keeps playing the forwards and we need more creativity. 6 months ago Watkins was in the England squad,Emi was playing for Argentina, JM, a transfer target for utd and PC one of the most expensive players ever, TM was and England regular but now look at them, all going backwards under Gerrards dull boring coaching methods. The guy hasn't got a clue now Beale has gone and the owners need to act now before it's to late

The hierarchy have too much invested in Gerrard they will want to give him every opportunity to succeed and therefore I think he will be given plenty more time to turn it around unless we go on an absolutely catastrophic run.

The thing is Lord, Gerrard has lost the players. Non of them looked happy last night and looked like a bunch of strangers who didn't have a clue. PC again looked like an empty crisp packet blowing around in the wind.

I don't think he'll get much more time LOTI, the writing is on the wall for Gerrard, we are absolutely terrible - Chelsea, Fulham, Brentford will decide his future IMO as we are getting dangerously close to relegation dogfight territory.

BK, we are not close we are in the thick of it, with little sign of it likely to change any time soon

Time will tell guys but I don’t think he will be gone anytime soon

True Caffu, I think we have the squad and the time (assuming we change manager soon) to push ourselves comfortably away from the drop - Possibly being niave.

LOTI, you could well be right, I just think if they don't turn it around in the next 3 games it will turn toxic at Villa Park. he's lost the away fans which typically is the beginning of the end and if we are drifting towards relegation the club will simply have to accept it hasn't worked and move for another manager.

Bk about sums it up. Dreading Chelsea, currently watching them comfortably dealing with Milan.

Smith was sacked with 10 points from 11 last year due to lack of progress.
If we don't get at least 2 points from the next 2 games Gerrard has to go otherwise Purslow is a hypocrite.
Other than a couple of clean sheets against poor teams there is no evidence to suggest improvement is coming.

As I said we will see in due course but I don’t see him being sacked anytime soon and as for a relegation battle there are at least 3 teams worse than us on current form ( Leicester, Forest and Southampton) and that being the case I think the owners will give him every opportunity to turn things around and that will involve Gerrard being given more than the next 2 games to turn things round.

They probably won't but doesn't stop it being blatant double standards of that's the case.
If we don't get 2 draws or 1 win from those 2 games then we are in the same position at best as we were the same time last season (with a much bigger wage bill).
There were 4 worse teams than us last season when Smith got sacked, not sure why the same thing would be any reason to protect Gerrard.
If there was any aspect of our game to build on then you can understand but there isn't. We're not defensively solid, we've just played bad teams and we're not creating good chances at the other end either.

Well, without wishing to re hash old arguments Smith should not have been sacked when he had every right to expect more support given his achievements for the club, perhaps the owners will have learned from the error of there ways and give the manager the time to turn things around. Also given Gerrard’s profile his ability to attract better players and the lengths they went to get him they are not likely to pull the trigger unless they feel they have no other viable option and we are not at that stage yet.

LOTI, I take your point on current form and the likelihood of there being 3 worse teams but look at who we have played - We've have a very easy start to the campaign on paper and have been absolutely dire for 95% of the time, also given the investment I think the owners would expect more than being the 4th worst team in the division. I know that's not what you are saying and your arguement is that Gerrard will be given time rather than the fact he is doing a good job but I honestly can't see a world where he turns this around - This is a massive 10 days for Gerrard IMO.

It will be interesting to see what happens, I fully accept that we have not been great and Chelsea will be a test but I still maintain the hierarchy are too invested in Gerrard to sack him anytime soon.
