Lucy Moura? Is she joining from the womens team ??

2.) 01 Sep 2022 11:25:24
Lucy would be an improvement tbf

3.) 01 Sep 2022 11:39:39
Looks like this would only happen if Daniel James was to go to Spurs, would be a great move for the Villa though, someone with a bit of quality in the final third would be perfect.

Did anyone listen to talk sport this morning when one Villa fan said we should get Roy Keane or Dwight Yorke in as manager, seriously, what goes though some peoples minds?

Anyway, how bad was we last night? With SG in charge we are sleepwalking into a relegation battle. Not one of those players looked like rhey were enjoying their football, they looked like strangers.
He keeps playing the forwards and we need more creativity. 6 months ago Watkins was in the England squad,Emi was playing for Argentina, JM, a transfer target for utd and PC one of the most expensive players ever, TM was and England regular but now look at them, all going backwards under Gerrards dull boring coaching methods. The guy hasn't got a clue now Beale has gone and the owners need to act now before it's to late

The hierarchy have too much invested in Gerrard they will want to give him every opportunity to succeed and therefore I think he will be given plenty more time to turn it around unless we go on an absolutely catastrophic run.

2.) 11 Oct 2022 13:15:11
The thing is Lord, Gerrard has lost the players. Non of them looked happy last night and looked like a bunch of strangers who didn't have a clue. PC again looked like an empty crisp packet blowing around in the wind.

3.) 11 Oct 2022 13:48:08
I don't think he'll get much more time LOTI, the writing is on the wall for Gerrard, we are absolutely terrible - Chelsea, Fulham, Brentford will decide his future IMO as we are getting dangerously close to relegation dogfight territory.

4.) 11 Oct 2022 16:35:33
BK, we are not close we are in the thick of it, with little sign of it likely to change any time soon

5.) 11 Oct 2022 18:52:24
Time will tell guys but I don’t think he will be gone anytime soon

6.) 11 Oct 2022 19:55:29
True Caffu, I think we have the squad and the time (assuming we change manager soon) to push ourselves comfortably away from the drop - Possibly being niave.

LOTI, you could well be right, I just think if they don't turn it around in the next 3 games it will turn toxic at Villa Park. he's lost the away fans which typically is the beginning of the end and if we are drifting towards relegation the club will simply have to accept it hasn't worked and move for another manager.

7.) 11 Oct 2022 21:09:23
Bk about sums it up. Dreading Chelsea, currently watching them comfortably dealing with Milan.

8.) 12 Oct 2022 06:36:17
Smith was sacked with 10 points from 11 last year due to lack of progress.
If we don't get at least 2 points from the next 2 games Gerrard has to go otherwise Purslow is a hypocrite.
Other than a couple of clean sheets against poor teams there is no evidence to suggest improvement is coming.

9.) 12 Oct 2022 15:57:23
As I said we will see in due course but I don’t see him being sacked anytime soon and as for a relegation battle there are at least 3 teams worse than us on current form ( Leicester, Forest and Southampton) and that being the case I think the owners will give him every opportunity to turn things around and that will involve Gerrard being given more than the next 2 games to turn things round.

10.) 12 Oct 2022 17:13:12
They probably won't but doesn't stop it being blatant double standards of that's the case.
If we don't get 2 draws or 1 win from those 2 games then we are in the same position at best as we were the same time last season (with a much bigger wage bill).
There were 4 worse teams than us last season when Smith got sacked, not sure why the same thing would be any reason to protect Gerrard.
If there was any aspect of our game to build on then you can understand but there isn't. We're not defensively solid, we've just played bad teams and we're not creating good chances at the other end either.

11.) 12 Oct 2022 17:43:00
Well, without wishing to re hash old arguments Smith should not have been sacked when he had every right to expect more support given his achievements for the club, perhaps the owners will have learned from the error of there ways and give the manager the time to turn things around. Also given Gerrard’s profile his ability to attract better players and the lengths they went to get him they are not likely to pull the trigger unless they feel they have no other viable option and we are not at that stage yet.

12.) 12 Oct 2022 20:32:00
LOTI, I take your point on current form and the likelihood of there being 3 worse teams but look at who we have played - We've have a very easy start to the campaign on paper and have been absolutely dire for 95% of the time, also given the investment I think the owners would expect more than being the 4th worst team in the division. I know that's not what you are saying and your arguement is that Gerrard will be given time rather than the fact he is doing a good job but I honestly can't see a world where he turns this around - This is a massive 10 days for Gerrard IMO.

13.) 12 Oct 2022 22:03:12
It will be interesting to see what happens, I fully accept that we have not been great and Chelsea will be a test but I still maintain the hierarchy are too invested in Gerrard to sack him anytime soon.

Some great posts on yesterday's game. I know this has probably been said before but why on earth is McGinn captain and even worthy of a starting place? He offered nothing yesterday yet again. If you want to find a winning formula SG then for crying out Lound just bite the bullet and drop McGinn.

1.) 04 Sep 2022 23:39:12
Whatever about the captaincy (it's a ceremonial position that doesn't hold much weight in the modern game IMO) I fully agree be doesn't deserve to be an automatic pick on current form - Luiz, Kamara, Dedonker should be given a go against Leicester, thought Ramsey further up the pick worked much better against City.

2.) 04 Sep 2022 23:41:15
I reckon that arm band weighing him down .He looks to be just trying to hard, everything even his tackles have become to frantic .It such a shame, because at his best he’s brilliant .Also I don’t think it’s helped, with SG not knowing where to play him .

3.) 05 Sep 2022 07:29:29
Think you're right 82. He seems to be lacking composure and trying to force passes and tackles that he wouldn't be making if we were on a better run of form. If he wasn't captain who should be?

4.) 05 Sep 2022 08:14:38
Think a lot is down to him being asked to play as this midfield full back hybrid - He is forced to turn into trouble to get on his best foot and given his position his passes need to be 10-15 foot longer than he'd typically play. The formation / tactics aren't helping him for sure.

29 Aug 2022 19:24:38
West Ham just signed a very good midfielder from Lyon. Up and coming Brazilian midfielder. Who does SG sign? His best mate from his old days at Liverpool. Like I said its like a father coaching a Sunday league side constantly picking his son who's no good. It's beyond embarrassing now.

Oddsocks78

1.) 29 Aug 2022 20:37:26
Who have we signed?

29 Aug 2022 13:37:46
I see the feelers are out already about Graham Potter taking over. Grew up in Solihull and supports the Villa along with most of his family. I think SG has until the Leicester game to try and put things right. If we don't have any important from now till then he's got to go.

Like I said, I can take defeats if I can see some sort of direction and identify in what he's trying to do but I'm not seeing anything. Our full backs again were tossing hopeless balls into the box for Kurt Zouma to have a field day. Then we get caught short on the break. With no new quality signings coming in then unfortunately his days are numbered

Id be amazed if Villa aren't tentatively casting their eye over the managerial market currently - Everything seems like it is pointing towards the inevitable, John Percy (Telegraph) just wrote an incredibly damning article on Villa and the Gerrard era, just seems like an absolute mess currently and the fact we haven't made an progress on signings maybe a signal of things to come. Why would we spend 30M on a new Midfielder when a new manager may be able to get a tune out of Sanson, likewise up front, could a better manager get more from Watkins and Ings? I just get the sense we could be about to make a change, reading between the lines of the John Percy article it seems like he has 4 games (up to the international break) at the end of which we could be camped in the bottom 3. If he is to go, we need to write Brighton a black cheque, get Potter in and build for the long term.

2.) 30 Aug 2022 19:55:37
Listen to Brightons CEO on talk sport this morning he is an articulate clever operator, they have protected their asset in Potter, he is going nowhere. Who, with any pedigree is coming to a busted flush.

Go back to bed Loti and take SG with you. When you have a clueless manager in charge playing an unbalanced starting 11 and loosing every wk, of course the fans will turn toxic. Today we went back to a system that every Tom dick and Harry was calling for. I pay enough money for a season ticket so all I ask for is some decent football and progression. But under Gerrard we wasn't getting that with his pig headedness and I'm to big an ego to listen to anyone else.
So do yourself a favour and have a day off with slagging other fans off
