So at what point do we accept mediocrity as totally acceptable. I hear we haven't been outplayed, fair comment, I hear refereeing decisions have gone against us, again fair comment. I hear too many unforced errors, fair comment, I hear give the manager time, again fair comment, so we keep going until January accepting mediocrity, at which point it's too late, so let's us fans let the owners and management know we are here to support them, however this can't be unconditional and the message has to be, we are Aston Villa and failure is not an option with all of the money that has been invested.

1.) 25 Sep 2019 13:43:03
As it was their money that was invested, surely it’s there decision what is or isn’t an option?

2.) 25 Sep 2019 14:05:50
These are business men who have built their business on success, I would imagine "it's their view" as well that failure is not an option. Perhaps I'm wrong or stupid, and if things do fail they will keep pumping money in.

3.) 25 Sep 2019 17:23:07
Pointless going on about it scotty, I think you said 5 games.
So let's see how things are after those 5 games.
All of this only breeds discontentment on the terraces, media and the club itself.

4.) 25 Sep 2019 18:05:02
This is getting ridiculous to be honest. We stay up this season and next season the same people will be wondering why we aren't winning the league.
The 'massive' spend averages around 10mill a player, you rarely get world beaters for that sort of money.

5.) 29 Sep 2019 14:06:23
To tell you the truth, lads, I did believe that it would be 2-2 or at least a tie between Aston Villa and Burnley, and I think that it's a fair result. I still think that we will get 6 points in our two next games against Norwich and Brighton. Come on, Villa!

21 Jul 2019 23:06:42
You can't judge most things on pre season friendlies, it's about getting fitness levels right and players getting used to each other. However certain basics are fundamental to playing good football, when you have Taylor on his right foot in front of goal and hasn't got a clue what to do that's inexcusable.

If you have Bree at right back and doesn't know how do go forward. You have Hogan who tries to run around a defender and is five minutes too late. So hopefully Deano has seen enough to make sure average players don't feature this season.

1.) 22 Jul 2019 07:20:32
Slightly harsh. think Taylor only had 1 chance on his right foot in front of goal and there were about 8 bodies between them. Can hogan do much more? He’s a centre forward playing right wing and still managed to bag a goal.

2.) 22 Jul 2019 10:50:35
Taylor put his chance on target aswell, can’t help it being blocked by someone.

Everyone used to love Hogans “intelligent runs” and slate Bruce’s football for the reason he couldn’t perform, glad everyone’s starting to realise he makes runs down blind alleys in which Pirlo would struggle to find him. Good lad, hard working but not that great a player.

3.) 22 Jul 2019 21:54:43
Agreed, nobody can expect a defender to score from outside the area with their wrong foot. He looked for a better option and had a go because there wasn't one. Even Jack looks for the pass first in those areas.

18 Jul 2019 02:04:30
If Deano played Bree to put him in the shop window sadly it backfired.

1.) 18 Jul 2019 06:07:03
He was equally as awful last pre-season. Unfortunately his passing is woeful and his lack of game time results in an extremely poor reading of the game.

2.) 18 Jul 2019 08:59:04
Shame because Bree was very highly rated at Barnsley I thought was quite a coop when we signed him. I think
He was badly managed by the old regime. I think he could of done well had he been better looked after. He may have to take a step backwards to improve his own game. I’d be happy to loan him to a decent championship club where he could get some games under his belt, grow in confidence and flourish.

14 Jul 2019 12:53:04
Anyone heard any news about Mile Jedinak, Alan Hutton or Glen Whelan, I appreciate all three were towards the end of their career, however they were all good professionals and were ultimately victims of our success. I hope they are all able to offer their experience in some form in the near future.

1.) 14 Jul 2019 18:43:59
Good call Scot Cafu

Think hutton off to forest
Heard whealan linked with Blackburn
Not heard anything on jedi

I thought Jedi May of been ideal as a player/ coach would offer a lot of premier league experience in this very inexperienced squad. That’s not a complaint about our squad I’m fully in support of the approach we are taking.

22 Apr 2019 17:50:32
Guys guess the team for next Sunday, no Jack no Mcginn no tammy? . My bet would be hutton, elphick, green, Davis, Lansbury will all play, 11 wins would have been good however protect your vital asetts for the playoffs is far more important.

1.) 23 Apr 2019 12:17:21
And we shouldn't give Leeds any extra knowledge on how we play. We could meet them in the final (fingers crossed we get there)

2.) 06 May 2019 10:05:29
I believe that we will get there and win it. Up the Villa!

I just wonder how many uneducated journalists and fans who thought we had paid over the odds for TM would dare to repeat there views now. Southgate had always said that youth was the future for a successful England, whilst there is some truth in this, experience especially in the heart of defence is every bit as important. Just look at JT, Cahill, Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, most of these played well in their late twenties. So a message to Southgate, stick with Ming's and McGuire and forget Keane and the others you have experimented with and play with a natural left footed centre back. I think and hope TM will be around the England scene for the Euro's and the next world cup. If he is they will be paying more than McGuire and Vandyke to stand a chance of prizing him from VP.

14 Oct 2019 13:35:27
I have just read that the idiot who tweeted bile regarding Jack's brother has been found guilty and had a minor slap on the wrist. The idiot who attacked him wore it as a badge of honour. The judicial system just doesn't sentence people sufficiently for anything to act as a deterrent and ultimately this had absolutely no effect in stopping this type of behaviour.
On a lighter note the magistrate said the life ban imposed on the tweeter was punishment in itself, I personally do not see that as punishment more like a blessing in disguise.

01 Oct 2019 19:59:46
I'm sure lots of you saw tuanzabe play left back for man u last night, apart from one sloppy pass, which I accept he got punished for, he was very comfortable. Got me thinking if Targett is a sick note and Taylor should never be considered again, what about Konsa being given a chance, after all he looks as comfortable on the ball as tuanzabe, got to be worth thinking about.

1.) 02 Oct 2019 08:20:34
Good call i was thinking the same thing after the Burnley match but also thought maybe give Taylor another chance to put it right.

2.) 02 Oct 2019 08:22:31
Surely Hause would be the first option?

3.) 02 Oct 2019 11:27:48
Chris agree I would play Hause over Taylor, however Deano seems blinkered regarding the left back position. Tindy mate Taylor shouldn't be anywhere near the first team, as to a second chance, how many times do you have to watch someone to realise they ain't a premier league footballer.

4.) 02 Oct 2019 15:17:48
People really have got short memories on here, I mentioned Hause at left back instead of Taylor some time ago and got slated for it.
The mind boggles.

5.) 02 Oct 2019 16:08:46
Dave you may have been slated by some but certainly not me and I don't recall Chris being a Taylor fan. What do you think about trying Konsa, you must have seen how well tuanzabe played on the left Konsa is also really comfortable on the ball . Even Deano won't touch Taylor again after his Burnley performance, so if Targetts out he has got to come up with something for Saturday.

6.) 02 Oct 2019 17:08:09
No Scotty I didn`t see the Man Utd game, but Yes I would certainly give Konsa a chance.
Since I started watching football as a kid back in the 50s, there have been many players who have become stars playing in a position that was not their preferred position.
I am all for it.

26 Sep 2019 01:30:15
Finally got back from Brighton, great support as usual and the nine changes are all pushing for consideration on Saturday. I thought hourihane was lively and must deserve a start. McGinn is McGinn just amazing. Jack did good. Defence was solid unfortunately Hause and Konsa need to wait for injuries before they get a start. And now on my soap box, bluntly if I was Targett I would give up football if the dwarf keep me out of first team football.

He made more attacking crosses in 90 mins than Taylor has done all this season and most of last. I listened to Deanos after match interview, he made absolutely no mention of tragett whilst praising almost the rest of the team. I really can't let it go as it frustrates me intensely that such a weak innefective full back plays week after week.

1.) 26 Sep 2019 03:18:54
Maybe because it was targetts first game back from injury?

2.) 26 Sep 2019 08:04:16
Maybe because he put zero crosses in in pre season so didn't showcase that.
Maybe his fitness wasn't up to scratch from lack of first team football.
Maybe Smith feels he would leave us more open than the more defensive Taylor (ironically something you have been complaining about)
He's only just coming back from injury and Brighton were playing a near non-existant B Team so let's not get carried away.

3.) 26 Sep 2019 11:27:35
Nothing about getting carried away, a cross is a cross in any standard of football, my only real point is Deano keeps picking an extremely weak link, if Targett is not the answer find someone who is.

4.) 26 Sep 2019 12:19:07
Its a cup game rk, we won and won well, cup games are great levelers.
Look at Tottenham, Stoke, Bournmouth, West Ham, Sheff Utd.
Like Scotty said, a cross is a cross, and any 11 v 11 is not a forgone conclusion.
We won be happy, blimey.

5.) 26 Sep 2019 12:45:20
Targett has been injured with a hamstring. I don't think he fit enough to play 90mins. Definitely will number 1 choice sooner or later. Taylor not done nothing wrong defensively but going forward looks clueless.

6.) 26 Sep 2019 13:41:31
Tindy mate got to take issue with you, "clueless" and "nothing wrong" can't possibly used in the same paragraph to describe a premier league player and that's my whole point. You are trying to be both fair and honest. "Clueless" is where I leave this debate and I promise I will never mention Taylor on this forum again. (ps he is still the worst left back in the premier) . that's it.

7.) 26 Sep 2019 14:32:00
Fair enough clueless is definitely over the top. Taylor been very good player for us because defensively he not done anything wrong so far this season but in the final 3rd he lacks ideas and consistency in playing a final ball that's a cross or a decisive pass. I think in the next 3-5 games you will see targett replacing him. But Taylor will very good cover if needed. I just hope targett is very good defensively as Taylor is.

8.) 26 Sep 2019 20:32:18
Dave, where did I say I wasn't happy we won? I just said hailing Targett as the Messiah against Taylor was getting carried away.
The only way that Brighton side were going to keep us under pressure for a long time was by having Queen and David Bowie on loop so isn't proof he will be the answer.

9.) 26 Sep 2019 22:46:49
I did not say that you said you were not happy.
I said be happy we have won, in other words we should all be happy about it, it was a good result.
Opposition is not relevant its 11 v 11, on the night.

22 Sep 2019 18:29:44
Sack him tonight along with Wesley Taylor Elghazi, absolute disgrace ashamed to wear the claret and blue. We can't win 11 v 11 we can't win 11 v 10. Forget the claims about a penalty we just ain't good enough.

1.) 22 Sep 2019 19:01:59
El Ghazi was fine tonight. Dean did the right thing keeping him up the pitch early on and his cross for Mcginn was perfection.
Later on when we started struggling it probably should have been him to make way for Elmo for balance but don't think Anwar deserves criticism for his performance.
Until Engels lost his mind, every player was doing their job well, then we tried holding onto a result which was a long way in the distance.
The players needed to learn from the Spurs game but they fell into the same trap.

2.) 22 Sep 2019 19:57:00
I thought el ghazi really reacted to his poor performance on Monday, looked brilliant today and got a good assist, even his tracking was on point today. Wesley was in and out of the game but good finish for his goal so did what was needed. To say sack the manager who got us promoted after 6 games is ridiculous.

Kenn the brutal realty is he was probably to good with a sharp brain for those around him at small heath, hence he didn't fit in and wasn't a first choice starter.

Bob, I love McGinn and hope he is at villa for the next five years, however the only person in the driving seat is John and his agent. We know he will have a buy out clause, unfortunately I can't see it being anywhere the figure that will lock him in to the Villa. I am sure he is an honourable guy and he seems to love Villa, however put yourself in his shoes, I would imagine he is on around £60000 a week with his new contract, if he sees out is contract this will earn him around £8 million after tax. So his agent gets offered a contract with a say Man U for £120000 a week with a five year contract, his earnings (again after tax ) would then be around £16 million over the length of the contract. John is a family man who will obviously look after his long term interests, I know for sure £8 million pounds would influence a lot of people's decision. Let's all hope not, however as I said it won't be an Aston Villa decision, it never is these days, money talks.

I will say it one last time Taylor is the weakest left back in the premier league by a mile, he is to short, can't win headers, too slow, can't cross, can't shoot, can't attack, no matter who who play he should not be anywhere near the first team again.

Dave be careful, you are opening your self up to RK and Chris's wrath. I agree there is absolutely nothing negative in stating the obvious and it's not surprising to many that our best performances of late were the first half last week and yesterdays 90 minutes. Check out the team during this period. I just hope Deano gets backup in January as Targett may be fragile.
