Apparently Mings was one of our best players and his aerial height was vital. Obviously injuries aren't helping but our form is not good, both Man U and Chelsea are looking as they will catch us sooner than later. We need to deal with what we have and get on with it.

Wednesday is vital we stop the rot or Europe could become a problem. I see Bailey was woeful and gave the ball away far to often, obviously got to give him time but he was singled out in the press as our worst player, appreciate he came off the bench but hope we didn't get Bailey MK2.

Tomorrow is the time to reverse the disappointing performances of late, Ollie is apparently fit and starts, Onana is reportedly ok as well, so we need to show the teams around us that we are not easy to play against and that's definitely not the case.

I have a ticket for tomorrow's game and off up the A34 in the morning, I'm hoping for something positive and a strong performance, another defeat would show our competing teams that we are not up for the fight.

Good post scotty I have to agree, time to roll up our sleeves. on the plus side Bournemouth at home will come at us so hopefully leave some space to get in behind them

I understand we have a ten million surplus from the Malen/ Tammy deal, taking in to account the younger kid.Wonder if we are lining up a big money signing and every penny counts, we will certainly know pretty soon???

scotcaffu

1.) 24 Jan 2026 15:32:56
There's not a 10m surplus at all. 21m euros and Ozcan. Cash wise its about 3m if we're lucky.

2.) 24 Jan 2026 17:06:01
There are some loopholes around signing youth players so it’s possible that although we didn’t make cash profit on him it could contribute more than the 3 million towards psr.

3.) 24 Jan 2026 17:15:04
Dave I think that Sky getting it wrong again, they reported we go something stupid like 30 m Euros for the kid . UTV

Playing devil's advocate, we'll sell Malen, Ollie gets an injury that sidelines him for a prolonged period, where does our striking force come from, Buendia is doing well but isn't a main striker, Guessed is a total misfit and isn't the answer in any position.

Sancho hasn't really put in a decent performance. With the FA cup, premier league and Europa on the horizon it's a real worry if we have an issue with our attacking options.

That says to me that getting Tammy in for £11M is a no brainer, there’s even talk that Spurs might try to hijack that too lol ?

Was Emi ever going to play against Arsenal tomorrow, something just doesn't feel right according to my youngest grandson, not sure myself if there is anything other than a back problem, but anything is possible in football, let's not forget Emi has a track record of missing games for what appears questionable reasons.

Just checking, was I the only one who didn't see Tammy touch the ball? We really don't have an attacking threat.

I felt sorry for him coming on when we were in game management mode. Multiple opportunities to cross into the box to him, but we turned and played it backwards to keep possession...
Still can't believe Watkins was one on one with the keeper and he managed to fall over him. He's the opposite of every other striker out there. They always say you can't give this guy or that guy time and space in the box, but Ollie is more dangerous when he has no time to think. Give him time and he'll either give it away or fall over himself.

How good was Bogarde tonight my man of the match, followed by Onana, how good to see McGinn back just need Tielemans and we may pick up from this dreadful form.

Bogarde was very solid to be fair, and Onana too. He could have had a cracking goal, very unlucky.
It was silly of Martinez to get himself booked with only minutes remaining, though.
Buendia's persistent fouling is becoming an issue. He will be the next one to see a red card if he keeps it up.

A wins a win, of course it is, but why does it have to be such a boring and painful watch.

scotcaffu

1.) 12 Mar 2026 20:11:29
Unai Emery tonight won his 100th game as Villa manager. Reaching that total in fewer games than any other Villa manager in History. Take a minute to think about that, lads.

2.) 12 Mar 2026 20:17:47
Good away win. Let's finish them off at VP.

12 Mar 2026 19:16:33
Watkins must be the worst one on one strikers I have ever watched, absolutely clueless.

12 Mar 2026 13:15:14
So does Emery prioritise team selection for Sunday against Man U, or strong tonight to win Europa?

scotcaffu

1.) 12 Mar 2026 16:43:19
Have you seen the line up? It's shocking. Scotty and Unai have lost their marbles. It's a joke.

2.) 12 Mar 2026 17:20:47
VJ, I've missed your moaning. ??

3.) 12 Mar 2026 17:27:18
Jonny, I possibly lost my marbles years ago. However, I was just asking a question, not making a comment, so what did you think I meant?

4.) 12 Mar 2026 17:31:02
This team selection has the potential to take a bad beating tonight.

5.) 12 Mar 2026 17:34:14
So Jonny, instead of your usual slagging off of the manager and the team, what is the reason it's shocking and Unai has lost the plot? What team would you have picked?

6.) 12 Mar 2026 17:50:59
Not the team that's starting, Bogarde at rb is gonna get torn apart, no Maatsen, no Tammy, and no Lindelof. I would have played Garcia at rb as well.

7.) 12 Mar 2026 18:27:49
I can see your point with Tammy and Lindelof, as they have both done well when they have played. Bogarde instead of Garcia might be due to the fact that Garcia has been injured for most of the season and is not fully fit yet.

As for Maarten, who I rate very highly, he was terrible against Chelsea (as was the rest of the defence, to be fair). Anyway, when Unai brings the players on you have chosen, I hope you are right, Jonny, and the Villa go on to win, mate utv.

Pity England wasn't a full time gig, Maguire would be in permanently. Man U defence with Maguire at the heart have been poor for a while, why would want a slow centre back.

Its pretty much ball park what i thought, i think Elghazi will struggle to get anywhere near 10 i also think with ings wages, teams likely to want him will want to pay around 10 so he can maintain his wages.Ings still has time to run on his contract so he may want to sit tight, we would have to drop our valuation to get his wages off the books.

Dave, I agree, I would take the 100mill now from Chelsea. Great to see SJM back. Hopefully it gives us the kick up the arse everyone needs, including Emery.

Whack. At least we are consistent. This team, manager, and tactics are devoid of any ideas. Watkins, Torres, and Buendia are the worst of a bad bunch; a few others are not much better. How has our season fallen apart so quickly? Oh, injuries are the reason. Isn't that why we employ a world class manager? If that is the case, it's not working with him.

MD, I was on that coach and ferry, and I was also 22. I'm sure I'm stupid enough to do it again. I understand and share a lot of your frustration. Unfortunately, I'm not as forgiving and tolerant as many on here, and that's my problem. But we have had the bleak times, the bang average times, and, yes, the good times. My gripe is a current manager who is too arrogant to accept that what is happening is not working, and refuses to do anything about it. In fact, he is making things even more annoying.

Watkins, Bailey, Buendia, Maatsen are not the only poor performers, but they are at their worst, and yet he is stubborn about addressing it. I said to my two grandsons that this team selection will do for us, and it did. The last twenty minutes against Leeds should have automatically been a starter tonight, but know-it-all Emery knows better, and he didn't. You bet he didn't. MD, enjoy your new football adventure, and hopefully you are better off both financially and emotionally.
