SV. Looks like he has gone after all. He will be remembered by many of us for that season when he was brilliant. I will also never forget how really poor he could be at times. That said, I genuinely wish him and his family well for the next chapter in his career.

Every team out there know that we are short of players in key areas and are cash rich with all if our outgoings, the price of players we now look to purchase will inevitably go up, surely you know who is leaving, so why not make your purchases when you are in more control of the prices. Our transfer dealings over the last two seasons can never in my opinion be regarded as top class.
Time will tell if the current crop will fall in to a similar class. I still just can't believe how many of the cup winning team are no longer going be in the first game of the season, I can't see how our great successful season last term can possibly be replicated, hope I'm wrong and have to eat humble pie, but I'm worried what we are in for.

We will pay more than we have to for players but we've sold players way above what they're (actually) worth, but by the end of the window we'll have a net spend of -£0 & a lower wage bill, I think they're playing a blinder with the FFP or PSR etc crap. ??♂️

Not just sour grapes, but he made a few mistakes last season. Some on here would crucify Cash for it, but I don't remember him getting stick for it. West Ham away was a bad 1, but we've got £51M for him. ? tbf he's quality for England, shame he'll lose his place for club & country in 6 months time.

I'm excited to see what our team will look like. Some real quality coming in, with lots of potential to get better. Manzambi looks a better player than Morgan looked when we bought him, and it didn't take Emery too long to get him to the top of his game.
Youri and Digne are bigger losses in my book. Gomes looks good. The boys on the Wolves page think we got a bargain. I think he buys a winger next, either Summerville or Rowe. LB and RB and another CM are also needed. We need to go to SA and find a striker prospect, imo.

The 2 strikers that have caught my eye are Franculino Dju from the Danish league & 'Flaco' Lopez, an Argentinian playing in Brazil & banging them in. The dream striker would've been Goncalo Ramos, who went from PSG to Milan.
He's an assassin of a No9. He was 'cheap' at £60M for the player he is. Still think Nicolas Jackson might happen, though should Ollie go.

Jackson at 25 yrs, not for me. He hasn't really produced anywhere he went. Younger with potential is the way forward. We have experience with Ollie and Tammy, gotta keep finding those gems. We need a big profit sale like Roger's or Duran every 2 years, so they have no choice but to reinvest, and attacking players is where the money is.

A superb first half should have had more than one. Second half solid, I thought Ollie got his mojo back, Digne had a superb game, great to have SJM and Tielemans back. I have to question Emery regarding Bailey, he obviously sees things that most of us can't. Hopefully this will kickstart our resurgence.

I heard the same comment a couple of times on commentary last night and it certainly makes you think, it was said a lot of the new players are now fit, but they are not Emery fit. He obviously has high standards and won't let them totally loose as regular starters until he is 100% happy. It certainly is a right plan if it works, time will tell.
Personally I'm seeing a few "green shoots" especially with the youngsters. We all knew it was going to take time and that is still the case, One more game and the international break will be welcome. October could well tell us if we can reach for the stars again this season,or will we be ok treading water until things gel.

Looks like Emery is focusing on Saturdays game, understandable, however it would have been an ideal opportunity to get the best eleven together getting well prepared to take Spurs on. Spurs have been woeful, however knowing our luck they will turn their fortunes against us.

Having read the mixed bag of comments below, agree with plenty, my take. Glasner has the edge on Emery every time they play, so what's the difference?. The obvious thing for me, Glasner knows how teams play, as we are far to easy to work out we are far easy to suss out. We were outplayed, out fought, out defended,out scored. Not surprising we lost.
Our tactics haven't changed in the last four games hence no win and only one goal, that's down to the coach. We played with virtually no midfield with no attacking attempt or threat from any of them. Kamara has a problem, he doesn't look fit and is obviously missing Tielemans. Tammy shouldn't be anywhere near the team and is almost if not all a passenger. Injuries again played a part, however it was a poor performance all round. You can't expect the new signings to get bit part time and to alter things.
It's a shame about Maettsen and Torres, but neither are good enough defenders. So if you balance poor players,players playing well below par, poor team selection and guess what you get, no wins, lack of goals and bottom of the league. We are coming up to the international break, I think Emery was hoping to limit our exposure to losing games up to the Spurs game unfortunately it hasn't worked.
I think he should put the strongest available team out against Coventry and see if they could gel any get a positive result before the Spurs game, I doubt if he will and another defeat will drain confidence even lower. Lots will reflect on last year's five opening games and hope things turn again, not with this this team and tactics we won't.

Of course it's great to get a win, but why when we are in control of a game do we concede so much space and possession and end up under the cosh? Brugge aren't a good side, but they have great pace down the wings, something we must do to compete in the Premier League. I thought Gomes was as good as Kamara was poor, and not for the first time.
Tammy, like Bailey, was, is a spent force and if we have to pay him to sit on the bench so be it. McGinn scored a great goal but then lost the ball far too many times and put us under pressure. Jackson will get confidence from his performance and goal tonight which bodes well. Great start to the Champions League. Just hope we can start the big money buys soon.

Its pretty much ball park what i thought, i think Elghazi will struggle to get anywhere near 10 i also think with ings wages, teams likely to want him will want to pay around 10 so he can maintain his wages.Ings still has time to run on his contract so he may want to sit tight, we would have to drop our valuation to get his wages off the books.

Jonny, Emery has enough credit in the bank and proven track record to carry on. However I do agree that fans should be, as you say be "worried" this time. Like every home game I was there yesterday and lots of things were evidently wrong. Individual performances were way off the acceptable.
Buendia gives the ball away almost every time he gets the ball and will never be the answer. Mcginn struggled holding on to the ball. Our attacking threat is virtually non existent. Our midfield the engine of every team lacks quality,Kamara just doesn't look fit and with it.
Our defence looks vulnerable to pace and our central defence lacks pace. Our build up is so low that teams can get in to the low block before we can advance, no wonder we can't score. Our tactics show no sign of making changes to upset the opposition when we are struggling,everything is too samey.
Our attack is blunt, again the reason we can't score. Jonny is absolutely correct, if fans aren't worried,I think this time round they should be. At the end of yesterday's game there was only a couple of players at the final whistle that played in the final, so it was always going to be a struggle, however I don't think many would have expected it to be so far off the mark.
Our signings haven't had enough time yet, even though some think they should have including me. We will lose some of the squad to the international break so this will not be ideal for Emery to get them where he wants the team to be.
I Hope (but doubt) he puts a strong team out against Coventry to get the new boys time to gel and get us ready for Saturday against Spurs.

Dave, it's not about moaning, it's about commenting on what you see. Of course it's a great result, but there were issues. How easy we were to play through at times; we struggled against an average side who made us look defensively awkward against pace. Constructive debate should never be confused with moaning.
I love John McGinn, but he lost the ball far too many times in the second half and put us under unnecessary pressure. Three points to open our account is brilliant, and when we add our missing class on the pitch, we should start to get some of our performances to get back on track.

Good to see you are ok, Jonny. Like you, many found it embarrassing, mainly because five hours of lacklustre football, nothing changed in terms of any attacking nous. It could well be a short-term blip, and once we get the quality players on the field and Emery works his magic, we could easily get back on track. ?
