Good morning all, first time poster here so go easy.
I’ve been thinking through what the rest of the summer might look like and thought I’d share.
Firstly, I’m not sure we’ll be seeing several €40-€50m euro signing that the papers are talking about. We have to consider FFP and the impact on future windows even if we spread payments. Also squad size and home grown status has to be considered.
This is why I think we have to go for Barnes. If he is available for less than the Maddison fee then I don’t see another player out there for around that number that isn’t a risk.
I think that then opens up Ferran Torres on loan (if available) which gives good cover and also maybe leaves a budget for another midfield player.
Any money raised from sales (more on that later) can then fund a right back. A new backup keeper would be great but I’m not sure there's value in the market for a player who knows they will be number 2.
My squad for the season would be as below. Sales might bring in €25-€30m and around €420k per week wage savings. I’m not sure we’ll see much selling value from those we’re looking to move on.
Finally, keep the likes of Feeney and Patterson around and give then cup minutes.

Trying not to get too carried away, however given our lack of success over the last decade or so it's hard not to. So with that in mind let's assume we qualify for Europe and indulge in a little fantasy football. Emery has confirmed he wants two quality players for every position here's my attempt to achieve that.
In coming up with this list I have tried to balance our spend, keep it in manageable proportions and look to bring in some quality free transfers as well as spending big on one or two key players.

id take a draw today going to be a tough game,i see on some other sites that villa fans are not happy with unai and the way we are playing maddness i reckon he a proven class manager yes his teams are rigid but let him get the players he wants and let him have a full preseason,not rip him after 5months you can see as a villafan the way he wants us to play and press as a team and be solid,we have the manager in place too take us forward we now need the players too take us forward

There are actually quite a few bargains frees to really consider in the summer window. we have shown we can pick up some good bargains by doing our home work before the rest of the league and here a few frees that we can consider (well the ones of some quality anyway)
CB - Evan Ndicka (Frankfurt)
CB - Harwood-Bellis (Man City/Burnley)
CM - Konrad Laimer (RB Leipzig)
CM/AM - Houssem Aaouer (Lyon)
LW - Jonathan Bamba (Lille)
CF - Marcus Thuram
CF - Moussa Dembele
I would take the majority of these in an ideal scenario.

Given the amount of dissatisfaction around our current squad who would you get rid of and why? So I have had a go as a starter for 10! and to provoke some debate here's my list.
Olsen - Not a premiership standard goalkeeper.
Hause - Similar to Olsen.
Guilbert - I feel a bit sorry for Freddy by and large he was ok but a number of managers haven't liked what he has to offer so better to let him go I think.
Young - Too old.
Bednarek - One paced and if he can't command a regular start at Southampton then that says it all to me.
Nakamba - Distribution poor can't pass to someone in the same coloured shirt.
Coutinho - Doesn't want to be with us
Sanson - Isn't fancied by a number of managers better to cut our losses.
Davis - Doesn't fit in to our style of play and not prolific enough.
Ings - We don't play to his strengths regrettably and therefore better to cash in now and get someone who fits the managers style.
I have one player where I think the jury is out and that's Bailey I think he is a decent player but frustratingly inconsistent personally I would like to give him until the end of the season and evaluate him then but I understand why some may want to rush to judgment now.
