With there being no chance of us being relegated this season wonder if our owners, sporting director and Dean smith are already making a note of which targets to go for in the summer.

Hopefully they will be thinking a couple of top drawer players and we re looking at the next level in our progress ( European football )

Reminds me a bit like the mon situation where he wanted to take us to the next level in terms of investment but Randy tightened the purse strings

Obviously this won't happen with our owners, if a player is identified and we have a realistic chance of getting them then the money will be there.

Let’s not jinx things when we’re 7 games in aye😂 MON got us 6th three times in a row, we are some way off that.

All positive signs so far, and no ones more optimistic than me, but let’s remember nothing is done yet.

I think the aim is dortmund/ leipzig model. Buy youngish quality £10-30mill players and sell one every year or 2 to buy the next one.
Don't think we'll ever be spending £50mill on a single player.
The end goal seems to be sell one for a profit that doesn't hurt the progress and then buying one and promoting one from the academy.
That way we try to remain competitive whilst also being the most sustainable.

I am sure we will be looking at future targets but I wonder with our new sporting director whether we will turn our attention to Europe looking at achieving better value by buying young hungry players and following the model adopted by other European clubs ie buy cheap develop and sell at a profit. If we are I hope we don’t go back in for Rashica we ought to leave him to stew where he is.

I think my outside punt back in the summer that we should have signed Ivan Toney from Peterborough looks like it might have had some legs - another Platt 3rd to 1st tier signing although, in fairness, he could have been a bench sitter which he wouldn’t have wanted.

Who have we sold that suggests to you we will be going for the Dortmund model RK?

If we managed to secure European football next season, I can’t see us selling anyone and definitely signing a 50+ million pound player.

'With there being no chance of us being relegated this season'. whilst relegation seems quite unlikely it could definitely still happen. 31 games still to play!

It’s not going to happen Dave vtid

Fulham and West Brom are going down that leaves one place left. Sheffield Utd. Brighton. bunley. Leeds. Newcastle

Too many poorer teams to even consider us being anywhere near a relegation scrap.

The bookies ar3 offering 28/ 1 for villa to get relegated

That tells you enough.

Nobody yet Chris, we're only 2 years in to a 5 tear project. We need the full team before we start the process. The hierarchy have previously stated they are looking for players with sell on potential which all adds up to the endgame I suggested.

I think you are right rk particularly when we are recruiting top young talent from across Europe as well as the UK all seems to point to developing our own ready made replacements for if and when the established stars want to move on.

Oh well if the bookies say so then yeah that's guaranteed Smithy . Come on you can't be serious. 2 teams already relegated after 7 games?! Villa already safe? Might as well just end the season now then if we already know what going to happen. Do you do lottery numbers too?

So you can see both West Brom and Fulham surviving?

And at least a 14 point swing between Sheffield Utd and Burnley to villa?

Come on. wake up and smell the coffee.

I would expect west Brom and Fulham to be relegated, but it's foolish to say they're already down after 7/ 8 games. Did you think villa would survive with 6 games to go last season. Well there are still 31 games left this season. I don't drink coffee anymore.

You have any sources for the hierarchy talking about sell on potential RK? I don’t believe they have, the right attitude, age etc have been, but nothing on sell on potential. Wouldn’t be the smartest move to publicly state such a thing.

Also Smithy bookies offered odds of Leicester to win the league 5000/ 1, us to stay up last season 12/ 1 with about 8 games to go and Buster Douglas to beat Tyson at 42/ 1.

We are aren’t even quarter way into the season, literally anything could happen, a couple of extended injuries and things don’t look so good.

Smith, Purslow and Garcia all outright stated it before last season. All on public record and searchable.

One such source is Smith on our very own official website back in Jan last year if you want a specific example.

Or search it yourself. It took 2 minutes searching Smith villa transfer policy.

Still can’t find it, if you’ve already found it I can’t see why you wouldn’t just post it to help someone out, and being so defensive?

Hmmm, I wonder.
