We have had this question few days ago Rob to be honest but for me Berge or Bissouma.

No one stick with Luiz remember Idrissa Gueye, Veretout, Amavi and so on? All young when at Villa all average according to fans now look. A Brazilian who is 23 playing for country and who Pep rates highly and some want rid? I guess the best manager in the world don't know what he's on about then.

Bissouma for me, would cost a lot but I think he’s worth it.

I think the interesting question is if we do spend big on a out and out defensive midfielder then what do we do with McGinn. I think Luiz, contrary to some people’s views is a defensive midfielder so if he retains that position then as I see it we have 3 options, firstly move him into the creative central midfield position in a position similar to where he plays for Scotland, however is he really creative enough at the top level? We could keep him as part of the squad but would he be willing to accept that role? Probably not. Sell him and look to land a top notch creative central midfielder what do people think?

DAZ, if pep rated him so highly he’d buy him back. I’m not saying sell him but he’s not good enough for that position he’s a liability in our box. that said if we can get 30+ million for him I would cash in.

If we want to push on we need quality throughout the squad after playing nearly every game we shouldn’t and in my guess won’t be getting rid of Mcginn this summer. Even if we do sign players in the midfield positions, competition is key, so is rotation.

Personally I think McGinn has found his level John, I referenced it the other day, saying I think we have squeezed all the juice out of some players.
I won`t say what I think about players, I have said it that many times now, but I will add, we should know by now exactly what is needed.
Have we really got to cast the line out that far, ?

Depends on the situation, if we are playing a promoted side who will come and be compact with 10 behind the ball then you'd definitely need more creative player at 10 - A Buendia for example. But McGinn against the too sides would be my choice in that position as he has an eye for goal but also offers you the work rate which is needed against the top sides. I think a proper DMF who is good on the ball would drastically improve us, Bissoma is the ideal siging but I've a feeling he may end up at United.

For me it’s either Isaac Hayden or Dier and I’d say they are gettable. Bissouma now Brighton are safe would cost £40M minimum, Berge just coming back from injury been quoted at £30M+. The McGinn debate. if we had a proper defensive mid, that’d be enough to let McGinn and A Nother be able to be pushed forward, that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t track back to defend when needed does it? Luiz could be that A Nother, remember his 1st game scoring that worldie against Bournemouth? Could happen more if he was pushed forward. Personally I’d like to see Jack as A Nother. Think about this, is there anything to say that our 2 more advanced midfielders couldn’t set up like how our ‘wingers’ do? Meaning Jack on the left, McGinn on the right, they can still cut in onto their preferred foot and do a lot of damage? and maybe have wingers on their natural side getting crosses in? Wingers swapping sides, midfielders swapping side to change things up? I’m a tactical genius me 😉

UTV.

I can’t agree on Dier, Ally. he sees himself as a CB and has no pace. Retrograde step imo. But we do need a specialist, strong DM and I do agree that Luiz could be more effective pushed a little further forward.

Bissouma would be an excellent signing, no question. but seems to be interesting Man City so may be out of reach. Berge I like, but his injuries are a worry. I did see that his release clause might be £12m? Worth a punt at that price but not for £30m+. Talk that Anguissa could be available c. £20m from Fulham. Might be a good shout.

Other options. apparently we hold an interest in Soumaré at Lille, but he seems to be Leicester-bound. So an alternative could be Sangare at PSV? And saw a left-field option to get Joao Palinha from Sporting Lisbon; he looks class. I think we’ll spend a lot on a key signing for the position; that, along with a creative 10 / wide forward are our transfer priorities imo.
