Could we afford him. I thought we were in danger of falling foul of PSR rules. We have spent €117m and brought in €67m. If we were close before, surely being another €50m in debt won't help. Might be some truth in the Watkins and Konsa leaving rumours.

The thing with Villa is that we had to satisfy PSR by june 30th which ended that financial period after we achieved that we move into 24/25 period which is a whole new ball game, we have substantially increased income thanks to Chris Heck so there is that to consider as it will increase spending power, we also have champions league money and the increased income from those matches to include.
so it's difficult to say exactly how we sit, basically what we spend now we will have to balance the books by June 30th 2025 but we have that extra income as stated, Villa and Monchi will not buy players that we can't afford so whoever we get in we should be assured that the maths has already been done.

Reports suggest we lost 8.5 million of the luiz money to city for a sell on clause. ?♂️ here's hoping the players we got in the deal turn out to be gems or it will look like a poor deal.

You win some you lose some. Whilst we may have had to let Luiz go for less than we would have liked, financially we did very well on the Kellyman deal, and if we get £40 million plus for Duran I would say we are ahead of the curve. Add to that picking up Barkley for circa £5 million I would say overall we aren’t doing too badly.

If I am honest I think Barkley is lined up as Luiz replacement, but for me if I was looking to replace him I would look at one of the following Ndidi, Neves, or as a total rank outsider Sekhou Fofana who started life at Man City, up until last season was playing for Lens in Ligue 1 before moving to the Saudi Pro League, not a flashy player but in my view does the simple things and does them well.

Although personally I blame konsa for both goals, first one he fails to put his boot through it and clear it and second one he is caught out up forward trying to play a through ball that wasn't getting there instead of using Philogene who was completely free outside him then it's turned over and instead of turning back immediately to get back to position he waits around up there waiting for someone else to win it back and we are caught cold.
All that said I think our biggest problem today was playing with zero width, Watkins got a good goal from a cross but we didn't put 1 more in after that, how long has it being since we went an entire game without winning a corner, 2 or 3 mins left in normal time we are pushing and we just keep turning back instead of trying to beat our man and get to the byline, Barkley standing over the ball bereft of ideas as to what to do, Ramsey done great for the first goal but in my opinion was the biggest culprit slowing down our attacks, be brave lad run at your man try win a corner we have being very good from set plays, we won a free in a great position and they bring on Buendia I thought here we go there a plan here but no he shoots miles over the bar coming on cold I'm not surprised digne was fuming coming off. game changed when rogers came off I hope it's nothing serious but Emery has some blame in todays lost points, these are the games that matter come seasons end.

For me sterling is another Felix, can’t say I’d be to bothered if we didn’t get him it’s a high risk signing, quality player when he’s on it but we haven’t seen much of it in recent years

Looks like Toney is definitely going somewhere but it won’t be us unless Duran leaves is my bet.
I’m not sure Toney would be any better than Duran, they are quiet similar type of players, Toney hasn’t being the same since his ban, with durans age I think we’d be better off keeping him

To be honest I did think the ref was pretty free with the yellow cards for united but when it came down to rashford getting the second one they were let off the hook.

It’s hard to win on here sometimes, there have being games this season where we have scored 3 goals and won our games and guys are picking at the team because we didn’t keep a clean sheet, this week we kept 2 clean sheets against 2 massive clubs while having injuries to many of our important players, say what you like about united they may not be at their best but they are capable of beating anyone on any given Sunday, they were poor all season last year but still got Europe and won a cup. we are 7 games into the league, 1 in the cup and 2 in the champions league, 7 wins 2 draws and 1 loss is a pretty good return with Arsenal united and Bayern behind us, I do agree with you that united were there for the taking today but their supporters can say the same as we were also there for the taking after a tough midweek and a bunch of injuries.
I also agree that we need at least 2 players in January as it stands and I’m sure if the wiggle room is there with ffp we will strengthen

If that Philogene shot goes in at the end, it’s a brilliant performance after the midweek win but he does look like the lad is gaining confidence. like you said the break now is coming at a good time for us. ?

It was a tired performance and to be fair after Wednesday you can’t really blame them, that game took a huge amount out of them. Don’t know what’s going on with Bailey he’s carrying very little threat going forward.
Rashford should of being sent off which would of being a huge advantage going into the last half hour but the ref rubbish the bed, carragher was championing united for the whole game and even he said he should of walked, that’s 2 games in a row we have being robbed.
I don’t agree about the lack of positives:
1. Another clean sheet.
2. Diego much better defensively and looks more reliable after getting some minutes lately.
3. Another start for Philogene and he’s looking much better than he did coming on against West Ham or Ipswich.
4. We had a much depleted squad today without players who started the season, maginn, Ramsey, Onana, that’s a big hole in our midfield and would hurt any team losing 3 first teamers.
5. We didn’t lose to United.
6. Chelsea and Newcastle didn’t win either.
Much needed rest now for 2 weeks and gives us a chance to get guys back in the team. Rogers and Bailey look like they have niggles.
