Uraguayan winger Gaston Pereiro agent in serious talks with Villa.
Asking price 6 million.
Rated highly by pundits and reviews.

Dave the way things are going with our signings if they don't come almost immediately could be to late .

16 Jan 2020 20:39:46
Kodjia having medical in Qatar tomorrow.

Just listened to Ashley Preece statement, Ally Sammata was always the target this window.
He also says another striker to come in maybe on loan.

Hi Ed, It looks very much like we are about to sign Sammata.
Am I correct in assuming if deal goes through on time, he would need a work permit, if so that would rule him out for the Brighton game?

Villadave

{Ed002's Note - Samatta would need international clearance and a Work Permit and that would take a few days - although a WP can be applied for in advance.}

I really hope we are not considering Benteke.
That would indicate a panic type purchase for me, one that would be aimed at pacifying the fans.

Villadave

1.) 08 Jan 2020 15:16:45
If (and it's a big if) we go in for Benteke I think it's reasonable to have reservations as to whether he's still capable given his recent form. He could be reborn and back to his best though. Whether it's a good deal will depend on his form and the price we pay. not sure I'd label it as a panic buy though myself and my personal view is he'd be a good signing. We'll probably end up with Glen Murray though anyway haha.

2.) 08 Jan 2020 21:31:46
I can see your thinking and maybe it might work, but time and time again this reunion between club and player seldom ends in success.
He is a totally different player now, also we do not play the same system as we used to play back then.

Yes we all know, not a great performance.
Poor first half, but much better second half.
Now let's all support the club like the travelling fans do.
We did not loose.

Villadave

1.) 18 Jan 2020 21:27:05
Well said Dave, we look like defiantly new players in, still plenty of games to go . Make a big difference with CF and hopefully new winger . Look at the league and still not a lot, in bottom 6-7 . Second half much more like it, working hard and closing them down . Basically shows we have work, for the full 90+ mins, not just 45 .
Luckily the mass support, home and away, shows that the mass majority, still believe. Keep the Faith .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

2.) 18 Jan 2020 22:07:28
On the button Dave.

14 Jan 2020 20:41:31
I see no clubs have made any concrete offers for any of our players.
Kodjia, Hogan, Kalinic, etc.
This is another failing of our club, we pay good money for players, keep them a couple of years, and then realise we can`t swap them for a bag of chips.
Its laughable.

Villadave

1.) 14 Jan 2020 21:32:43
You're right Villadave, but despite all the club's failings, we all remain devoted supporters. There are many who would say that's even more laughable.

2.) 14 Jan 2020 21:46:08
Very true mark.

3.) 14 Jan 2020 22:58:15
Who would want any of our squad players really there not very good at all wasted millions on average players, it's been going on for at least 5/ 7 years we haven't built anything and also we have apparently one of the best youth set ups in Europe and wheres the players comeing in the squad, you would of thought instead of playing without a striker give youth a chance.

4.) 16 Jan 2020 08:59:51
Youth policy?
the big clubs have youth coming through almost daily
Pool, Utd, chelsea can all find half a dozen to get in the squad.
We only get Jack.
All the other disappear to all points of the compass.
we don't have a scouting team only people who go and watch park games.

14 Jan 2020 16:25:23
I think most on here will know that I have supported and backed our Manager and team completely from day one.
That is why I find it hard to say what I am thinking and now saying.
We have a new Manager, his staff, we have new owners, new admin, in fact most things are new in and around Villa Park these days which I have to say in someways is great.
But there is one underlying thing that I cannot understand in all of this, and that is the sheer naivety of all the people concerned, nobody has learned a thing from past events.
It seems no matter who we have running the affairs of our club, we seem destined for mediocrity or failure.
We persist in doing things literally by halves.
This has gone on at Villa park for as long as I can remember.
Most of the successes we have had falter and then stop, instead of pushing on and striving for more success, it all comes to an abrupt and sudden end.
Fear of investment, and the lack of continuity with the fans, plus wasted money within the future of our club (academies) are some of the main contributing factors.
I urge all at Villa Park to listen to the people who pay your wages, and to the people who love the club, the fans.
If we want or need a player go and get him, don`t get an alternative because he is slightly cheaper.
"The time has come to sink or swim".

Villadave

1.) 14 Jan 2020 17:16:31
Villadave-i reckon there are many on here who would echo what you have said fella, but like some on here might say, including me, is that there are 2 many chiefs, not enough Indians, the structure in place is top heavy, and by the time a decision is made, the impetus is lost, I think we need to shed some of middlemen and go back to basics, I've always wondered how the likes of Bristol city etc can keep unearthing talent and get them to the club and yet with all our resources we can't seem to compete, and that's been for years and years, maybe it will change, anyway must dash, a cows' on the telly apparently just in the process of jumping over what appears to be the moon-well I never!

2.) 14 Jan 2020 17:32:59
Admirable words Dave, however using your water analogy who's going to come to a sinking ship, that's the problem facing all those you refer to at "Villa Park".

3.) 14 Jan 2020 17:53:38
I think villa should get every striker they can amd flood the bench . I bet dean smith looks at villas bench like micheal jordan in space jam. I hope we don't no to brighton without new signing . Every team coming up against us have no fear . Need new striker to give them food for thought .

4.) 14 Jan 2020 18:07:31
As flakie would say Google translate, sound familiar grammar?

5.) 14 Jan 2020 18:31:26
Spot on Dave what I don't get is why we need a sports director to get our players? What ever happened to the good old days where the manager identified the players he wanted then the chairman would say yes or no for me it's just a fashion statement to have a sporting director hate it hate it hate it. Can anyone tell me who is actually running our club?

6.) 14 Jan 2020 18:39:45
What um say you Scotty.

7.) 14 Jan 2020 18:51:07
Baffled dave, baffled mate!

8.) 14 Jan 2020 18:56:43
Good points you all made, I to can't stand the director of football or sporting director, it doesn't work for me, surely deano has too pick the players he wants to sign because if not his hands are tied behind his back.

9.) 14 Jan 2020 19:22:43
Scottcaffu its cafu btw.

10.) 14 Jan 2020 19:35:24
Youth, my name is Scott David Caffu mate, I know how to spell my own name.

11.) 14 Jan 2020 20:39:01
You sure Scot? 😂😂😂.

12.) 14 Jan 2020 20:47:29
Scotty, It would of been great if you had a Daz in there as well.
We could of all posted under the same name 😁😁.

13.) 14 Jan 2020 20:56:40
Just herd everton have loss of 112m last year . And have sold naming rights to stadium for 30m . Why everyone obssessed with villa ffp when every club doing it .

14.) 14 Jan 2020 21:27:10
Can’t disagree with any of that. But. give Deano Pep money and we wouldn’t have to buy ‘cheaper alternatives’ and though they are not the biggest flops that we’ve bought, Marvellous and Luiz for £25M when it seemed that it was the Leeds lad that we wanted (my preference woulda been Isaac Hayden) for the same amount of money, proves your point. My solution for Pep money is to sell the stadium naming rights for mega money, just like I’m sure Citeh have done with their stadium, which is sponsored by the owners cousin or something? Bit underhanded but I’d say VP could be sponsored for £1 or £1B by anyone other than the owners, it’s up to them what it is worth, problem solved. Villa Park will always be Villa Park, if it’s called the Adidas Arena I couldn’t care less because it’s still Villa Park

UTV.

15.) 14 Jan 2020 22:11:04
I don’t think we need a new manager right now.
And even if we got rid of Smith I don’t think Big Sam or Pullis inspire me enough to want to ever watch Villa play again. I’d rather go watch them ZuluSh*t bluenoses.

Make the right signings this Jan and Smith will keep us up.
Whether or not Smith is the right man in the long term I do have my doubts. But I think he’s the best man for the job right now.

13 Jan 2020 21:58:00
I wonder how long the management think it is going to take to get Drinkwater up to speed.
This guy has been idle apart from training sessions for the past 2 seasons.
His match time is 14 games in 3 years.
Surely it would be more productive playing one of the under 23 lads.

Villadave

1.) 13 Jan 2020 22:12:06
Villadave-an ex-pro was saying if he knocks his pipe out 4-5 games, if he ends up as a sub, probably 7-8 games, makes you wonder why we sign a player with no pace for a team that is supposed to try and move the ball quickly, time will tell I suppose.

2.) 14 Jan 2020 08:56:21
Another panic signing.
Our summer signings were needed but there did seem a hint of panic even then.
Where is our scouting system? Do they work 7 days a week or just when we are looking for players.
Surely we have scouts with knowledge about the local area. Apart from Jack we seem to have nothing from the area.
Look at Chelsea, they have an amazing amount of young talent from their own locality. they have been with them from school.
Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs. They all find school leavers with talent.
Somewhere there are kids out there that we are missing.

3.) 14 Jan 2020 11:22:36
Brilliant post TOV, unfortunately as we all know it takes many years to get rewards, way too late for us now.

4.) 14 Jan 2020 22:19:47
I don’t see Drinkwater as a panic signing, he’s a vastly experienced Mid who can pass the all and do some defensive work. His fitness is a major issue but I see it as a safe signing who won’t damage us at all in the short or long term financially. Give it a few weeks an I reckon he’ll be a key player for us.

5.) 14 Jan 2020 23:12:33
Shane how long is a few weeks, we need him now mate.

6.) 15 Jan 2020 09:42:56
Villadave,
Unfortunately we haven’t been able to go get a ready made CM to replace McGinn because I’m sure it would have cost £30m-£40m to do that.
So we’ve done what makes sense financially even if I’d have preferred a Victor Wanyama type of midfielder personally.

I don’t actually see many options out there right now which is why I’m happy with Drinkwater. We should have a good enough team/ squad to compete over the next 3 games and then come mid feb when we play Spurs hopefully Drinkwater would have reached match fitness/ sharpness and we’ll see his best from them on.

7.) 15 Jan 2020 11:12:02
I know he has it in him, I just hope you are right Shane.

12 Jan 2020 22:23:19
Ed, sorry to be a pain mate, I have just read a post from Scotty on other posts.
It is good reading and makes good sense, can I ask how it ended up in other posts.
Seems a shame because it highlights a lot of what is being said.

Villadave

{Ed002's Note - No idea man.}

I happen to think that`s another good shout 82.
I don`t` dislike Trez to be honest, and I think a good run in the side would build him and his confidence.
He works hard and can be direct, worth a punt at Brighton.
Mark and I were talking about sticking a defender up top, but thinking about it Trez would probably be the better option.

Shane, I think you would agree, Deano gambled when he took Maupay to Brentford, considering his previous record.
We all take gambles in life, if they work your wonderful, if they don`t your a jerk.
I think under the circumstances, and the current situation with the availability of players, 8.5 million is going to be a bargain if the lad delivers.
My concern is whether the players we have, and the system we play is going to give Samatta the support he will need.
I am quietly confident he will score goals for us, but we still need another striker to either partner him or sit behind him.

Think about it mate.

Why do you think we should we have kept him?

And if you remember he was wonderful at first, bought from Crewe, the same team as David Platt.
Then as usual fans turned on him because he was classed as negative always passing sideways.

Do you remember now?

Scotty, If you are backing the club saying the things you say, then you have fooled me.
Backing the club is to support decisions made and encourage improvement.
Certainly we should be able to question any of this, but to blatantly call for a managers head, and condemn nearly everything he does is not good mate.
Time was always going to be a factor in all of this, that is why I think the disapproval shown on here is very harsh.
If we go down it means we have failed this time, stick together regroup and go again, we will have learned a valuable lesson and should be better prepared next time.
As Daz has said, we must have the most infuriating fans in the country, I will add to that, the most fickle as well.
Two wins and everything changes.

Missed a load on here last night, out celebrating, so I might be a bit behind.
Just seen your post 82, theoretically sounds good, excuse my ignorance who was this Manager mate?

Daz, I spotted your post down the bottom of the page, about backing the team and Manager, good post and well said mate.

Does not work like that does it Scotty, look what we got in McGinn for under 3 million.
End of argument mate.
