2 goals in our last 7 games.

Says it all really.

Anyone got any idea who is in charge of the transfers?
From the outside looking in- it seems like smith asked for Cahill, Kelvin Philips, Benrahma, Maupay.
but got given Engles, Nakamba, Trez and Wesley.
Surely whoever’s suggested/ sanctioned these has got to get the chop!
I reckon if we signed the 4 players smith actually wanted we wouldn’t be so low in the league.

A very valid point you make there Ja41, it would be very nice to know just how much input Deano had in the transfer dealings, I suspect very little and yet ultimately he will carry the can for their failings. Engels, Nakamba, Trezeguet and Wesley have all turned out to be very average players and like you, I think the 4 alternatives you mentioned would have been a much better option.
I can’t remember the exact amounts the club paid for these misfits, but I think the total would have come to around 50 million. They could have probably aquired Phillips, Benrahma and Maupay for around 65 million with Cahill on
a free. So not really a massive difference in overall cost to be honest. That difference could probably been saved by not buying El ghazi and Jota and giving an opportunity to one of our youngsters instead.
For me the manager of our club should have the most say in transfer activities but sadly that doesn’t appear to be the case at all.

I agree the players Ja41 have identified would have proved better options however that’s with the gift of hindsight I think the real culprit here is poor coaching we have an ex England centre half who can’t seem to get our back 4 organised or teach them when it is right to play out from the back against when the ball needs to be booted into row z to my mind whilst the players we signed are average I still think with proper coaching the squad should have been good enough to keep us in the division.

If the powers that be get rid of Deano then a few others should also be gone and it begs the question re who comes in?

I can’t understand all the calls for deans head. if you’d have said to me 18 months ago that we’d be in the PL 1 point from safety with 7 games left to fight for survival i'd have taken it! Was never going to be easy staying in this league with the squad we’ve got.

Do you see a team fighting to stay up mate? Perhaps it's where we find ourselves after the virus, football isn't the same and that may effect the players but I don't get the sense this team is fighting for its life, some players yes but overall no.

2.) 25 Jun 2020 08:30:44
I don’t which is worrying but I have seen an improvement since the season has re started. Conceded 3 in 3 which is half what we would have conceded pre the virus.
Might be wrong but I don’t think changing management this late in the season will have any positive impact. + what half decent manager would come in now, knowing there’s a big chance we will be in the championship next season.

Bring in big Sam!

This loyalty to Dean Smith baffles me, ok from a Villa background so what he's useless he picks the team that is the easiest to beat every week in the prem. Let him lead the team out next week at wembley as a mark of respect to him, then bye bye after probably one of the most one sided cup finals ever. We need big sam or warnock now or we are f**ked.

2.) 22 Feb 2020 20:41:46
Loyalty in my book means, when your objective is the same thing, don`t crap on people, and stick by them no matter what.
Look at what the word loyalty means, it might enlighten you as to why people are loyal.
First you say you can't understand the loyalty towards Dean Smith, then you say respect him at Wembley, how does that work then.
I can see exactly why it baffles you mate R&P.

Not the most inspiring signing in the world but he adds some cover up front and he’s free.

Think Trez’s work rate is second to none. Seem to miss him when he’s not in the side.

Making a 47 million pound profit in 1 year on a player that’s not proven yet in the premier league. On paper we would be daft to turn it down.
On the other hand. he’s part of the teams core and we don’t need the money. Keep!

Slightly harsh. think Taylor only had 1 chance on his right foot in front of goal and there were about 8 bodies between them. Can hogan do much more? He’s a centre forward playing right wing and still managed to bag a goal.

2/ 3 wins and we are out of it. If we wait any longer it will be too late.

Konsa and hause weren’t good enough for the championship 12 months ago. Suddenly good enough to start in the PL now.

Can’t help but agree. Think in the middle of the park we competed quite well today and looked a lot better going forward. The defence is just worrying.
Conceded 50 goals in 25 games. Means we have to score 3 a game to get 3 points.
Think the fact we are in a cup final is keeping dean his job.
Expected the league to be tough but we keep making the same defensive mistakes which are costing us games.
