Personally I think it was a decision that could have gone either way, would we have complained if we had have scored from the same thing,
Mings should have cleared it instead of messing around and trying to be cleaver, what happened tonight is isn't a new rule its been around ages
It the gloss of a great team display and a team that are fighting for each other on to the next one boys.

It’s not a new rule because they’ve completely butchered a rule designed for a different situation in case of a player intercepting a back pass, in order to defend a scandalous decision.

Same thing happened in the Juve game last night, offside straight away. The same thing happens up and down country week in week out and it’s offside. Because the actual rule that's applied states that as soon as Rodri makes a movement toward the ball/ player he is interfering with play and therefore offside.

I am not sure I was watching the same game as some of you guys. Some played well, some played OK, I didn't see any brilliance. Man City are a good side and there is absolutely no disgrace losing to them. I thought Mings had a good game, however six good moments and one mistake leading to a goal isn't in my book acceptable, especially when mistakes lead to dropped point's, after all this isn't the first time this has happened. Traore doesn't have the pace to help out Matty, Foden had far too much space another day he would have punished us. Ross obviously needs game time and it showed, he gave the ball away too often. We can't keep bemoaning our luck, you make your own luck. We won't play a better side again this season, so we roll our sleeves up and go again the weekend. The last two games were against the top two teams and both away from home no disgrace losing. Games in hand are only positive if they are converted who ever you play. So disappointment all round but we to need to see things as they are and not though claret tinted glasses.

Clearly you were watching a different game then scotty, we watched a team who had 3 days prep after a C.V. crisis against a team that lost once all season, Barkley hasn’t played since November (ish) and an interesting stat about previous games against them that we lost on aggregate 34-4 or something like that, so on a whole and taking all circumstances into account it was a great performance and didn’t deserve to concede a goal cause premier league decided to change the rules. city made united look terrible a few games back but we had better chances than united had against them, any team make mistakes that’s how other teams score goals generally, city are probably going to be this years champions so to hold them and still be in the game with a fighting chance till the last 10 mins is a huge improvement and lots to look at through claret and blue glasses. on to the next 1, good points on offer with West Ham Southampton and Newcastle coming up.

It wasn’t a mistake, not from Mings anyway.

Scot, too many times your comments make out like we should be world beaters.
We weren't at our best but to expect that from recent happenings is foolhardy. City weren't at their best either but still played like a team full of quality and we matched them for the whole game bar 2 questionable decisions.
Teams in better situations have tried playing a certain way and lost out to the better team. We played the right way and lost to debatable decisions so while not perfect we should look at the positives rather than having visions of grandeur.
Tinted glasses works both ways, you certainly have them more than those you claim to in my opinion.

Sky Ports Biased opinion of that goal and I quote their match report "Rodri was marginally offside" Bring back Star Soccer and Fxxk Sky Sports with their top 6 agenda!

What's the difference between that handball and the Harry maguire 1 in the closing stages in our last game.

That was a big 6 team, this was Aston Villa.

Cash doesn't play for Utd.

Should take a look on the bell Enders page they are actually that sad they still clinging onto the ghost goal from last year v Sheffield, after getting beat by part timers u think they would have more to worry about😂😂 lots of positives to take from tonight after calming down a bit, important now to give Newcastle a lesson at the weekend, rumour has it Bruce is starting 8 defenders lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jan 2021 20:24:36
So the rules say if a player makes a positive action on the ball, basically offside is negated. If that's the case, how come so many goals get ruled out when it skims off a defenders head or foot? Words can't express the disbelief! # WTF #MAKINGITUPASTHEYGOALONG #INCOMPETENTOFFICIALS
And now we wait for the obligatory Man Utd penalty to further confirm the obvious bias. 🤬.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jan 2021 20:46:27
Incompetent or favouring certain teams, or worse still taking back handers.
A great effort from the lads all the same. Coming into this game after a serious outbreak of C.V., against the form team, the last thing they needed was the ref and VAR giving City a helping hand as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jan 2021 20:50:03
It’s rubbish moose, there’s another rule in the same section literally a few lines below, that says if the offside player makes movement toward the ball before the defender touches it, then they are interfereing with play. Rodri is running at Mings and the ball the whole time it’s in the air, he’s offside, full stop.

As someone famously said "if they're not interfering with play, what are they doing on the pitch? "

Anyway targett was class tonight he's been quality in every game and cash aswell, and Luiz is our rock quality player really hope City don't buy him back.

Can't fault the players, everyone of them brilliant.
The second goal, how is that a pen, when against Wolves, a dingle has hand balled it, after it was played in from a much greater distance. It's been headed at cash from 3/ 4 yards away fgs!

The first goal, I think for me, it could be it for football for me. It isn't football anymore. Absolutely horrific decision, but because it's villa, it doesn't matter. After the decisions against Watkins in the last few games was bad, that was damn right bending the rules to accommodate another team. Anyone laying blame at Mings door, I suggest you watch more football, players do the same up and down the country, because as soon as Rodri goes for the ball it's offside (LET ALONE ACTUALLY TACKLE HIM) and we have a freekick higher up the pitch. It literally happens all the time! But I imagine the same people using this as a desperate excuse to blame Mings, had he hoofed it out would now be saying "Mings is useless, all he does is hoof ball". He was superb today, countless last ditch blocks, brilliant in possession and putting his body on the line when needed.

I would say, whoever your gods are, pray to them Targett is fit for the weekend, but the way I'm feeling, I can see me giving it a miss.

Mings getting rid takes the offside out of the equation and I have to admit I was fuming after all his good work previously. Still doesn't excuse the officials doing their usual screw villa.
Cash did everything possible to keep his hand out of the way. Natural running position and he still pulled it in further despite the fact it was near enough point blank.
All refs from the Webb era need to be gone, we need to find refs who aren't afraid to make a decision and ignore shouts from big teams. I actually thought Moss was decent for 60-70 minutes before he fell into old habits.

Have to agree with you Chris. Because it’s Villa it doesn’t matter. No excuse for Deanos ungentlemanly conduct. Automatic three match ban. If Villa actually played when they were supposed to they might keep up with the rules of the game. William Jose welcome to Wolves.

He doesn’t need to get rid though mate, never in a month of sundays is it not offside. The rule they are throwing about isn’t the one that should be and is applied in every other game since football began. Rodri is running toward the ball and Mings the whole time it’s in the air, Mings is aware of his presence, he even has a little look over his shoulder, so in that moment right there, he’s offside.

To be fair Chris, I still said its a bad decision. Devils advocate though it wasn't just a case of heading it, he still had at least 2 opportunities to kick it also.
He still had a good game, Konsa just still manages to outshine him every game.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jan 2021 22:27:06
Most of this season he has, however I think tonight Mings covered Konsa quite a few times.

Can anyone explain the offside rule, because its a joke why can't it just be simple if your offside your side would make it easy.

20 Jan 2021 20:24:14
You know a lot about football explain it to yourself.

Explain that one, VAR is a crock of S###e . Deano should appeal that sending off .
C.V., no game for Three weeks, Three days training and we put in a performance like that, got to be proud.
