Like many I watched the inept tactical nous of last night's game, hopefully it did enough to question any decision to stick with Carsley. Whilst Konsa obviously couldn't play, when he is fit he should be a regular choice in the center of defence. The defence was inept however with a clown in goal it makes any defence a difficult task. Kane's ego will be even more inflated when he thinks England can't manage without him, Ollie is good enough to hold his own and last night was perfect to give him 90 minutes to show he can play as a number 9 when Kane's time is up or is injured. I don't think Gordon or Foden work in England roles and that should be obvious to everyone by now. Last nights result should now focus the FA to look seriously at the next appointment.

Absolutely disgraceful that Watkins can't even get an England start when Kane is injured.
10 Oct 2024 22:02:00
Well deserved result for England. This will always happen when the FA put the name on the shirt ahead of what they bring to the team.
11 Oct 2024 00:10:01
The idea was to play a different system that didn’t involve an out and out striker but a ‘false 9’ hence no start for Ollie. It failed spectacularly so now let’s just move on. ‘Carsley out’ I hear you say. Who else then?
11 Oct 2024 04:11:26
I literally couldn't give two figs about England, it's the treatment of our players I care about.
It's nothing about trying a different system, he'd have done it in the last camp against worse opposition when Kane was fit. Carsley even said after the game that he only has to leave one out because Harry Kane is Harry Kane.
Really not sure where you got Carsley out from? For a long time it has been clear that the FA have a big hand in ensuring a status quo, it'll be a long time before they hire a manager who genuinely focuses on building a team with a plan.
11 Oct 2024 23:22:46
Last night’s team looked like it was picked by some kid just getting started on FIFA. Shoehorning all the ‘big names’ into a team never works. Arguably England’s biggest talent in 1966 (Greaves) wasn’t picked for the final because he didn’t fit the system Ramsey felt had the best chance of beating Germany. Similarly you’d have thought the ‘Lampard or Gerard’ precedent would have rung some bells. Looking at the player position analysis, Trent and Palmer take up identical high positions and so do Foden and Bellingham leaving us exposed at the back. However, if Carsley had benched Foden and Saka there would have been a press riot 🤔
12 Oct 2024 09:27:02
That's because it was MD. What sort of manager starts a game with a system that was only used in training for a grand total of 20 minutes?
In a way, it's a big middle finger to the casual fans who said Southgate needed to play 6 forwards because we'd walk all over teams.
Spain should be the example everyone follows. They have a few big name players with experience but the squad is generally focused on a balanced team that has a gameplan and can potentially challenge for trophies for a long time.
12 Oct 2024 12:52:01
Managers get paid big bucks to make decisions some straightforward some less so, but often we find they duck the issue. With regards to our midfield we are facing the same issue we faced 20 year’s ago trying to fit Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard into England’s midfield and it never worked, trying to accommodate Bellingham, Foden, Grealish, Palmer, into a midfield isn’t going to work either so the manager needs to pick a system and fit the players best suited to that system into his starting XI. If that attracts criticism so be it that’s part of the job as manager and he is paid well to deal with things like this.

Great win on penalties, by a very young U21 side at Bolton. Under constant pressure, but still managed a draw, then won the shootout. UTV
09 Oct 2024 12:58:42
The U18s are flying so we could see some coming through in 3-4 years time.
The 21s have got some out on loan but are struggling in PL2, I don't think we'll see many of those coming through other than taking up bench spaces for European games.
It has taken some time but I think we will start to see the benefits of investing in the academy again before too long.

Had to laugh on Sunday, with the United players complaining at the ref about him being biased towards the Villa . Now that's a new one, is it another thing out of their managers book of black arts . UTV
07 Oct 2024 16:59:36
To be honest I did think the ref was pretty free with the yellow cards for united but when it came down to rashford getting the second one they were let off the hook.

I appreciate it's great news for Durans new deal. I doubt we will ever know the details, however one thing for sure the club are going to be protected with the buy out clause which has to be in excess of £60 million. Unfortunately now if any clubs want to trigger it, it will probably mean he is continuing to improve his quality. I really hope he continues to flourish with us over the next six years, however he has shown when he is not happy he let's everyone know and that's always going to be a concern.
07 Oct 2024 15:17:51
Personally I feel as though Ollie will go in the summer now as he's got to have assurances about playing more regular football that's just my opinion if we are lucky enough to get 60 million for Ollie in the summer
07 Oct 2024 15:46:48
Could easily happen daz
07 Oct 2024 16:30:00
No it would have to be a lot more than 60mil say 80/90 mil daz n scotty
07 Oct 2024 17:00:47
I haven’t read anywhere about a release clause, where did you see it Scot?
07 Oct 2024 19:12:21
Whack, read this from a journalist close to Chelsea and I understand most contracts in these circumstances contain release clauses, it can work for both parties.
"I am not saying this will happen with case in subject Jhon Duran by the way, but I’d not be at all surprised if the new contract he has just agreed with Aston Villa contains some kind of break or release clause in it. Or at least some kind of agreement to let him leave the club down the line.
As we know, Chelsea have had very public interest in Duran recently, and I won't expect a new contract would put them off if they still wanted to try and sign him in the near future "
07 Oct 2024 23:09:36
As far as I've seen, there's only one highly speculative article from a Chelsea linked journalist and the quote is that he'd 'be shocked if there isn't a clause' which implies it's nothing more than a guess. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a good guess mind, but at this point it's complete specualtion so wouldn't give it any attention for now. It's all about asset protection and it's nice to see the club being proactive.
07 Oct 2024 23:42:06
What a load of nonsense! What circumstances?
08 Oct 2024 05:55:45
Take this as you will but someone who’s related to someone who knows Olly has said that Ollie doesn’t want to leave, has never asked to leave, the only ‘circumstance’ in which he could leave is if Villa were offered £100M for him, so I’m assuming that Ollie/Villa have that as a release clause 🤷🏼♂️

06 Oct 2024 18:58:04
Just thinking, how ironic the amount of times we e played United off the park and come away with nothing UTV
06 Oct 2024 17:57:50
LOTM, I'm not sure you are at my level yet, have you got rid of your claret tinted glasses, if not you are not in my club yet. Of course Wednesday took it's toll, however poor choice of passes has little to do with tiredness. Remember united played a difficult game on Thursday, so we had an extra 24 hours on them. Rogers was way off it today and Bailey is totally shot of confidence. Why on earth didn't we challenge the two donkeys with Ollie's pace. The two weeks break is welcome, let's hope the Villa boys shy away from their call ups.
06 Oct 2024 18:31:52
I have to say Scotty for once I am with you.
Utd are a poor side and I don’t consider a 0-0 at home to be a good result for me it is like a 0-0 with Wolves, would anyone consider that a positive?
Philogene got minutes under his belt agreed and I also agree he was better than against West Ham but that wasn’t hard, but unfortunately he didn’t contribute anything in an attacking sense.
I know Chelsea and Newcastle didn’t win either but that isn’t really the point we need to build a cushion for when we face the likes of City, Liverpool etc but missed the chance.
I think that we will need to do some more business come January if we want to compete on all fronts.
But the beauty of this site is it’s all about opinions and we are all entitled to them. I guess my disappointment emirates from the fact I dislike Utd with a passion and in my view they were there for the taking.
06 Oct 2024 19:55:27
Porto is a nothing game compared to Bayern and Uniteds scoreline proved that.
United had some physical exertion on Thursday but clearly weren't switched on mentally. We had physical exertion as well as expending a huge amount of mental energy having to second guess passes and runs for 90+ minutes.
It's disappointing not to beat an average United but we were short in midfield through injuries. We've got loads of players coming back in the next couple of weeks, we should hopefully not have so many injuries at the same time for the rest of the season.
06 Oct 2024 20:06:03
It’s hard to win on here sometimes, there have being games this season where we have scored 3 goals and won our games and guys are picking at the team because we didn’t keep a clean sheet, this week we kept 2 clean sheets against 2 massive clubs while having injuries to many of our important players, say what you like about united they may not be at their best but they are capable of beating anyone on any given Sunday, they were poor all season last year but still got Europe and won a cup. we are 7 games into the league, 1 in the cup and 2 in the champions league, 7 wins 2 draws and 1 loss is a pretty good return with Arsenal united and Bayern behind us, I do agree with you that united were there for the taking today but their supporters can say the same as we were also there for the taking after a tough midweek and a bunch of injuries.
I also agree that we need at least 2 players in January as it stands and I’m sure if the wiggle room is there with ffp we will strengthen
06 Oct 2024 20:12:22
If I said it was Sunday today, RK would find a way to say it isn't.😜
06 Oct 2024 22:00:47
That's because you'd try to say it on a Monday and complain that everyone else's clock was wrong. If you really think United had as tough a game as we did, how many Porto players would get close to that Bayern squad in your opinion?
You never give any thought to circumstance. I will criticise repeat offenders for making the same mistakes repeatedly. You jump on the whole team for getting a draw against a big club after we've had our biggest game in decades.
Mental fatigue is real. I regularly had more energy after 10-12 hours rushing around on my feet than I've ever had doing a 9-5 at a desk.
06 Oct 2024 16:14:07
Poor very very poor. We allowed a distinctly average Utd control the first half and although we improved second half not by much. Again we had very little threat down our right I thought Cash would make a difference to that side of the game but didn't. Philogene when he got the ball looked to play it backwards or sideways provided no threat going forward.
I think we are in danger of ending up in a similar position to Newcastle in that we either suffer in the PL or the CL but we don't have the depth of squad to do well in both and now injuries look like they could become an issue with Onana, Mings, Kamara, McGinn and now possibly Konsa crocked. We have to beat average teams like Utd particularly at home. I normally like to highlight the positives as well as the negatives following a game but I can't find anything positive to say about today's performance. I think I may be morphing into Scotty! 🤣🤣
06 Oct 2024 16:47:10
Clean sheet,
06 Oct 2024 16:51:23
It was a tired performance and to be fair after Wednesday you can’t really blame them, that game took a huge amount out of them. Don’t know what’s going on with Bailey he’s carrying very little threat going forward.
Rashford should of being sent off which would of being a huge advantage going into the last half hour but the ref rubbish the bed, carragher was championing united for the whole game and even he said he should of walked, that’s 2 games in a row we have being robbed.
I don’t agree about the lack of positives:
1. Another clean sheet.
2. Diego much better defensively and looks more reliable after getting some minutes lately.
3. Another start for Philogene and he’s looking much better than he did coming on against West Ham or Ipswich.
4. We had a much depleted squad today without players who started the season, maginn, Ramsey, Onana, that’s a big hole in our midfield and would hurt any team losing 3 first teamers.
5. We didn’t lose to United.
6. Chelsea and Newcastle didn’t win either.
Much needed rest now for 2 weeks and gives us a chance to get guys back in the team. Rogers and Bailey look like they have niggles.

Good job Man U where worse than us . What a terrible game, free kicks, shooting and as usual passing . But saying that, still better than United . Obviously Wednesday had taken it out of them, but for everyone to have an off day .
At leat two weeks off now, to get people fit and back on it UTV
06 Oct 2024 16:53:33
If that Philogene shot goes in at the end, it’s a brilliant performance after the midweek win but he does look like the lad is gaining confidence. like you said the break now is coming at a good time for us. 👌

Not the best of gamez but il take a point we never beat united
