Just a thought… The Watkins to Saudi seems to have come from out of nowhere, I wonder (apart from the financial benefits) if he knows that we’re actively looking for another No9, or that there’s talk behind the scenes that Madjo would be 1st choice going into next season? I think the latter, from what I’ve heard, Madjo kills it in training, the staff are blown away by him, & not cos of his age.

🤷🏼‍♂️

Not a chance Madjo would be 1st choice.

What happened to our L/B, saw photo of him on a plane on his way, two days ago, now he's either changed his mind, or it’s the usual Villa lack of information. Thought we would of at least seen a photo of him in a Villa shirt by now.

Can’t believe all the Martinez rubbish again, must be down to his agent, two years we’ve had that now. What is going on with Ollie, rumour after rumour, now we’ve got Saudi involved, Ginny must be feeling like Billy no mates UTV.

If we get all the money we want for those who want to leave, then we've played a blinder & they will be replaced, might pay over the odds ourselves, but that's just how it is.

Is anyone worried we're not ready for the season?

2

17 Aug 2026 10:13:52
Would be better if we didn't have so many injuries. I'd take a draw Sunday and hope we get some players back.

I hate that the season starts before the transfer window closes. Should be closed 3 days before the first game.

Romelu Lukaku to Fenerbahce. Market worth 6 mio. looked good in the World Cup. What a steal. Could have been very useful for AV.

We've already got the 'new Lukaku'.

Just watched some YouTube of Suzuki, & read the comments, compared him to Buffon, they’re not far wrong, & several of his saves are comparable if not better than Emi’s 1 against Forest, & they’re, boy, can throw too. Stick our fastest player on the halfway line when defending corners, see him catch it & launch it, hopefully that player is Endrick lol 😂

Watching Arsenal in the Charity Shield, and I think if Konza goes to them he will be sitting on the bench most of the season. I think the "big six" buy players from the likes of Villa just to ensure they will always qualify for the rich European tournaments.

Pluffy, they will look at it as weakening Villa.

2

16 Aug 2026 19:41:45
I agree, Dave, it does seem that the top 6 want to qualify for Europe every year and the easy way to do it is to weaken teams like us.
I still can't get my head round why debt for ground development should be any different to going in debt to improve the playing side.

Football is probably the only business where owners can't spend their money to compete with other businesses.
I can see the day when football will be less attractive if your team are not allowed to compete.

Pluffy, as we've seen, they just change the rules to suit whoever's involved. I definitely think if Konsa goes, it's to try and weaken Villa, they know with the season starting, we will have to bed in another C/H. Good job we've got Lindeloff, who once again can prove just how important a signing he's been. With the goalie, I think it's a case of getting him as cheap as we can, because, if you give it another season, his price would have rocketed.

It is a rebuild, and with what we are doing, the fans won't know half the players. HaHa. If we can keep our core, and more importantly keep them fit, with the kids who've come through, I think we could still give it a go. UTV.

100% they just do it to weaken their competitors. They could buy from other leagues much cheaper, their big revenues allow them to have pretty much 2 full teams of players who would start on any team outside the top 5 or 6.

Villa and City were the teams who were running Arsenal close until we lost 3 of our midfielders. I know we ended up having a great season, but I'd love to know how it would have panned out without that period where we lost the boys.

£30m for the Japanese keeper, Zion Suzuki. That is a lot of money. Can’t admit to knowing too much about him tbh.

The one transfer that I’m a bit bemused by is the Palhinha one. If we are as interested in him as most reports suggest, why are we seemingly messing about? I know negotiations can be protracted but I wonder if we might miss out on him if we’re not careful.

Hopefully we can get the Ruggeri deal done soon and maybe even an attacking option too.
Not sure what’s happening re: Wan-Bissaka? Would be decent option at RB in my opinion.

All the above possibly means Martinez and Konsa will be gone.

We only want Paulinha on loan, Bayern want to sell.

Palhinha is only seen as a stop gap on loan until Onana is recovered. Personally, I don't want him, he's a thug and I don't want to see any issues in the squad, especially with Kamara. I know depth is important, but we have Kamara, Bogarde, Barkley and Lindelof who can play there.

I think the only reason Villa are interested is simply because it looked like nobody would buy him, and a loan suited us, as FIFA would be covering his wages.

My take on the Emi Martinez saga is this. I believe he stays this transfer window but there will be in place a transfer in January. Due to his injury after all, noone is going to sign a player that needs surgery now, are they?
This season is a season of transition. We need to get the new signings gelled in and we have the right people in place to do this. I think we will finish around the 7th to 10th positions this year and for me after all the changes that ain't bad not good but not bad.

Signing Suziki is a masterstroke by Villa; the publicity we will generate over in Japan will be huge and also will help with shirt sales and possible sponsorships. Anyway, enough of me rambling on, let's enjoy this season win, lose or draw. Let's get behind the lads and manager and remember there are things more important than football.

I'm sure he's already had his surgery on his finger. I just want him gone at this point, he's just going to continue to cause unrest in every window until he goes, because it's been made pretty obvious that he wants out.

Clearly, social media and the rise of 'experts' online is really rotting brains now.
Martinez was told before the end of last season that he was up for sale to reduce costs after we missed out on CL.
The club tried to sell to United and get Lammens in, but couldn't get the money they wanted. Obviously, Martinez was unsettled for a while with it dragging on so long.
Juve are the ones, this time, stirring the pot, acting like the dirtsheets last year were fact.

Like United, they are taking the absolute pee price wise.
Same with Konsa: an Arsenal fan, who wouldn't know a football if it hit him in the face, writes that "he wants the move", and people lose their mind. Rogers was only ever going to go to Arsenal, until he didn't.
The person who questioned Konsa's mentality seems to have forgotten how he put Ramsey in his place when we qualified for the Conference League.

First half some of the kids looked a bit leggy, not used to this much game time. Alyson and Hemmings looked the the part again, we could have a couple of good ones there. Much better second half, when we beefed the team up. Nice play for Ginnys goal.

Can’t understand why no Garnacho again, and Cese seems to have disappeared. Got a lot of sorting out to do before next Sunday. What’s all this going on with Martinez, his agent keeps saying he’s going nowhere, but the rumours just won’t go away. UTV.

Bit of a rewind here... Was just thinking, we were disappointed that we didn't get Senisi on a free, if he was that good, wouldn't Arola have snapped him up for Liverpool, knowing that they were gonna be short of centre halves? He would know him better than most.

🤷🏼‍♂️ If Konsa was to go, Harwood Bellis for me. & if Emi leaves, I'd prefer the Freiburg keeper who they say is gonna be the next German No1.

The last time we had a complete overhaul of the squad we got relegated! It's going to be an interesting end to the transfer window.
