Guys, if we are saying the squad isn't good enough and I think we are all in agreement on that, most of us have said we need at least 5 players to bolster not only the squad but some that would go straight into the first team. So my question is if you are in Deano's shoes which are the 5 positions you would buy for, and more importantly who would you go for? The reason I ask is that earlier in the season I was very clear in my mind about the positions we needed cover for, and that was 2 wide-men a striker and possibly a left back to challenge Targett, a defensive midfielder never entered my thoughts however I am now thinking that if we are going to continue with 4-2-3-1 a proper defensively minded midfielder is very much needed as our current incumbents cannot get to grips with the role unfortunately.

Let me know what you think and in terms of targets can we make them individuals we may have an opportunity of attracting rather than ones we have no chance of landing.

6 Players needed for me lads, I fear 100M will not be enough :-)

LB - Rico Henry, 10M
CB - Joachim Andersen, 20M
DMF - Ryan Gravenberch, 30M
CMF - Emi Buendía, 30M
RW - Matheus Pereira, 25M
ST - Tammy Abraham, 40M

Total Spend: 155M :-)

A question for you guys.
You are a manager looking for new talent for your team.
Grealish, Martinez and Watkins are not included for obvious reasons.

So based on Villa`s last 12 games of the current season, and performances witnessed, who would you want to buy, and for how much. ?

Targett £15-20mill
Konsa £30mill+
Mcginn £20mill+

Thise are definitely. Mcginn value dropped due to club form but still good money for national team form.
I wouldn't sell at those prices but if teams thought we'd listen I think those are the minimum offers that come in.
The rest would probably be sticking around the money we paid for them and would still get interest. Nakamba and Trez the 2 that would fetch less, Mings is a tough one, another year older and makes errors but breaking into England squad adds back to value.

22 Apr 2021 17:37:46
Cash, konsa, mgginn, I reckon cash is worth 30mil now, konsa 50mil plus, and mgginn 40mil.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2021 17:48:36
So for me

Konsa - £50 million+ if Maguire is worth £85 million Konsa is worth at least £50 million.

Mings - Again £50 million + part of the England squad.

McGinn - £40 million+ and for me that’s conservative I think he is a much better player when sides play him further forward with the right support around him as evidenced by 9 goals in 14 games for Scotland.

Dave if I was an up and coming manager, players I definitely wouldn't buy Elghazi Trezz, Luiz, Traore, Mings, Nakamba, Barkley*, I would buy Davis, Ramsey unproven but worth a punt Konsa is an obvious choice. Based on all of the above it's why we are struggling, without your omissions and Konsa we are not that strong a team, hopefully this will addressed in the summer. I just think the owners may be cautious giving too much money to the current manager, remember these guys are business men and not as emotionally attached as we are and may take a longer term view.

22 Apr 2021 19:18:29
Scotty that is the point I am trying to make mate, we are thin on quality, and to be honest for me it would be konsa, and that`s it.
We are talking about the last 12 weeks, if we were talking longer McGinn would be in there, but not on current form.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2021 21:21:30
Dave I get what you are saying re McGinn but he is a really good player he just isn’t being played in the right position or with the right support around him, play him further up the pitch with someone like Bissouma in the defensive holding role I really believe you would see a much better return from him.

I'd love to post on some of your comments but I'm not going to as I promised my self I wouldn't. Must be Dean's fault that Cash got sent off last night. Must be Dean's fault that Martinet came for that cross. Must be Dean's fault that Forden is such a different grade. Must be Dean's fault that players couldn't string 3 passes together Want me to go on? And before you say he does the tactics yes he does but if you've played the game you would know tactics go out the window for unforseen circumstances not related to tactics. B3st club in the land worse fan base in the land FACT.

Daz, that might be the case about posting, but you have posted with points being raised.
No body has blamed Deano for the points you have raised, what we are saying is that some players are under performing big time, and should be changed, with another approach tried.
Because that is not happening, people are rightly questioning the motives and qualities of the staff involved.
So again, most are in support of Deano as I am, and as you are probably aware I did say a week ago, I think he should have another year.
But we do need to see something that at least looks proactive.

Dave
I agree about the under performers. The one thing I am getting bored with though is Deano never really shows his disgust at our dour performances. It's all a bit monotone all the time as if he's given up trying with them. i would rather he came out and said it's not acceptable and there will be changes and make them. The players have an attitude that the seasons over so they're coasting to its conclusion. It's that attitude which will put us in trouble going forward.

Hi SV, I agree mate, I am just trying to simplify the point, basically because it is well trodden ground, and we get have been there many times.
I picked all this up, along with Scotty some 12-14 weeks ago, and we got slatted for it.
Nearly came over your way, early this week.

As was said last night, certain players form has dropped off completely. We as fans are frustrated by it, imagine being the manager, he can only work with what’s there .
Trez not the best player, but at least, he is %100 every game . There aren’t enough player with the same mindset, lack of form can be made up to a point with effort .
We are at the point now where, we aren’t going down . So perhaps, now is the time to show some of them, their places aren’t guaranteed .

Well at least we can say now that villa are in safe hands now our owners are in it for the long term after reading there statements online, eventually we will get there but not under deano.

It's difficult to criticise Deano too much, promotion, avoid relegation and a promising 1st half season.
The 2nd half has been punctuated with C.V., injuries, suspensions and Grealish missing 20% of the season.
I do wonder how long the ambitious owners will stick with him though. It's going to take another summer of major surgery in the transfer market.
I think his position will be under review for the 1st 10 games of next season.
I'm torn between being happy just to be in the Prem and being disappointed that we've fallen so dramatically in the last 12 games.

I agree Johnny, he definitely deserves to continue as manager - There has been upward mobility under his management, the only caveat I would add is he in charge of a club which now has quite significant funding and the powers that be may expect better (should we continue to slip down the table) for their investment.

Our form is worrying me, this isn't good enough at all how can people be happy with this, I really hope our owners see sense and get rid of deano at end of season he's not good enough in my opinion and the owners have big plans for villa, we need a big name manager in my opinion, else if we stick with deano it will be same nxt season again, I just want season to end now yeah we stayed up, but we're going to be in bottom half after an amazing start. I think we had a chance this season of top 8 but blew it, needs to be huge changes nxt season in players coming at least 3 in starting 11 and 5 in squad.

I haven't seen many (if any) on here saying they're happy with our current form. but i and at least some others are generally happy with the overall direction of the club, so not ready to jump on the 'we need another manager' bandwagon just yet.

Agree DBS 1983 I think some would be calling for Deano’s head even if we were in a Champions League spot. I don’t think any of us are happy with the football we are playing now but would we have accepted this when he took over I think most of us would, and he hasn’t been in charge for 3 years yet. Give the bloke a break! And be careful what you wish for we could end up with someone like Mourinho and what a bloody disaster that would be.
