Just seen Watkins goal, great header . Good build up, cross from the left by Jack, finding Trez on the right, who puts a cracking ball in for Watkins . Brilliant play all round .

Agree Dave great finish keeper no chance he buried it he’s clinical in the 6 yard box he scores quiet a lot of those diving headers, first of many I hope great start for him💪 Credit to trez also for a great delivery, I know it’s only warm up games but great to b winning them, so many years we were getting beat by teams we should be beating, arsenal and Utd scalps is a good start.

2.) 13 Sep 2020 01:14:28
Hello everyone. I'm new here. Dunno how to comment without directly replying, so aplogies! Been lurking for a few weeks and some great opinions in here (and a few shockers! ) . My current thoughts are:

1) I love Guilbert. Cash looks good at tackling, but I worry for his positioning and dribbling skills. I would pick Guilbert over Cash at LB, but I don't trust Cash as a right winger (which isn't why we was bought anyway) so it concerns me that Cash seems to have been brought in as a direct replacement for Guilbert; who I think is excellent and also young and has massive potential.

2) Watkins appears to have fantastic positioning and workrate. I just hope he can score goals when in these positions. Note: I'm at half-time in the Villa v Man Utd game so I haven't seen any of the 2nd half yet.

3.) 13 Sep 2020 11:59:13
Rb, not lb! And sorry I should have put this in banter.

4.) 13 Sep 2020 13:52:29
You have to use the Rumours form for new subjects and the Ed’s decide where to put your posting.

12 Sep 2020 15:21:49
Sorry Jhon Chancellor .

1.) 12 Sep 2020 15:32:29
That came through before my other post . The other post said we are signing the Finnish keeper, supposed to be having a medical. He’s from the same team as reported target, Jhon Chancellor .

2.) 12 Sep 2020 16:05:02
Sorry crossed wires with my son, it’s Martinez 🤪🤪🤪🤪.

3.) 12 Sep 2020 16:33:37
Sorry it is Martinez, crossed wires with my son, my fault completely misheard him . We had been talking about that keeper and Chancellor and mixed the two up .

12 Sep 2020 15:17:18
The Finnish keeper signing, having a medical. From same side as reported interest Jhon Session .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

1.) 12 Sep 2020 15:44:43
Is this a new keeper?
Are we not getting the Argentinian Martinez after all?

09 Sep 2020 19:37:09
German press reporting, Rachica changed his mind . Villa reported to have made a £22m bid . If that's correct, it's another up your Walkies, Villa got no money HaHa
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

1.) 09 Sep 2020 20:46:48
I think someone has put some fuel on the fire Dave.
Realising the options are getting less.

2.) 09 Sep 2020 21:01:25
As good as Raschica probably is, he can do one. Probably only wants to come now that no one has come in for him. Would see us only as a stepping stone and be off the first whiff of interest from a top 6 club. The likes of Cash and Watkins can't hide their delight at signing for the Villa, that's the sort of players you want at the club. Furthermore those saying we missed a trick with Frazer, yes we did, the one where he downs tools rather than help his club and teammates in their hour of need. We've had far too many of that ilk over the last few years, time to build a proper team spirit and ethic.

3.) 09 Sep 2020 21:35:25
Well said Moose, I totally agree with you.

4.) 09 Sep 2020 21:37:09
Call me sentimental but I’d of liked to see lolley coming in but he’s more right sided I think, just another grafter with what seems like a very good attitude.

5.) 09 Sep 2020 22:06:09
I’d like Lolley too. and his understanding with Cash could make us really strong down that right hand side.

Re: Rashica. I disagree. I think he could be an unbelievable signing. Can’t blame him for (allegedly) wanting a champions league move if one had come up; King has said the same preferring to go to Utd. If Leipzig are definitively out of the race, and we can sell him on the ambition and vision for the club. he’s the sort of player that would really signal our intent. A message to other players that we mean business, and could take us to another level.

There’s a lot of noise about Benrahma again too. Rashica - Watkins - Benrahma, with Wesley to come back (hopefully stronger and better adjusted to the league) . that’s a hell of a forward line.

6.) 09 Sep 2020 22:10:53
I don’t think you are far wrong, Dave. Despite the seeming refreshed interest, Rashica appears to be resisting the move. I can imagine his agent is looking for a deal, but maybe not the player. I would rather stick to players keen to play for the club.

The other winger still being bounced around in the press is Harry Wilson, who is being quoted at being available for only slightly less money.

None of the Norwich boys seem to get a mention.

7.) 09 Sep 2020 22:29:47
Lolly and all his family Villa barmy, now he would jump at it . Also he knows how Cash plays, Lolly on the right, Watkins coming in from the left, mouthwatering.

8.) 09 Sep 2020 23:01:44
Wow I thought it was just me that liked lolley, you love to see villa boys wearing the jersey they give that bit more you know their heart is in it, not pushed on rashida he don’t look interested I’d prefer someone with less skill and more desire, he reminds me of gazhi looks a proper sulky git.

9.) 10 Sep 2020 06:50:51
If they have the right attitude Whack, Lolley could be a good call. Just don't need another Lescott, Richards, Collymore and end of career Agbonlahor, supporters of the club but with a couldn't give a s##t attitude.

{Ed001's Note - more of a problem might be the fact that he suffers from shin splints apparently. He is likely to miss a lot of games due to it, if it even can be cured.}

10.) 10 Sep 2020 08:53:32
Cheers for the info Ed, mind you Forrest Gump had splints and it didn't seem to do him any harm 😁😂😂.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate, having had shin splints myself I know it is bloody painful. An ex of mine was with Chelsea women until she got shin splints, she ended up retiring at 23 because of the pain. It does depend on what the cause is though, as it can just be as simple as the wrong fit on the shoes, but that is unlikely for a footballer as the shoes are normally engineered specially for them after their gait has been watched.}

11.) 10 Sep 2020 19:57:47
Lolley was really backed to join us a couple of years ago, but we decided to pursue others. None of those specialist wingers have really convinced.

I am sure Lolley would go down a treat with fans during the summer. 😎.

One in the bag, Matty Cash good addition.
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

1.) 02 Sep 2020 15:59:27
A good signing this Dave, could it be he is being lined up for a midfield spot, interesting.

2.) 02 Sep 2020 18:44:01
I don’t think so Dave, I do agree he could be a good addition in midfield! Unfortunately smith doesn’t like players playing out of there normal positions.

3.) 02 Sep 2020 19:16:03
81, I have no doubt that Matty Cash will play in a midfield role for us at some point.
Temporary or not, I would of thought that is why he has been recruited.
He played Kortney Hause at left back.

4.) 03 Sep 2020 11:49:55
I would want to keep Guilbert and move on Elmo. The Egyptian is in the final year of his deal, so why jeopardise forward planning by selling off the Frenchman, only to seek another right back next summer as cover for Cash.

As Dave rightly suggests, Cash could very well play further forward at different stages.

You have to give it Trez, what a great non stop game . El Gazi should take a tip out of his book, that's how you play for your place . Being greedy it could of been 5-6 tonight, That ref was determined not to give Watkins anything. Maginn certainly getting back to his old self, he was more involved £ mobile tonight . Great that Deano had the kid on the bench tonight, it shows how he rates him . With all the pushing up, we did leave a few gaps at times, obviously against better sides, we can't afford that .
Over all a good display and certainly confidence building .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

27 Sep 2020 21:25:45
No Wolves fans popping in tonight, What on earth has gone wrong there?

1.) 27 Sep 2020 21:59:27
They are worrying about the gap Dave. 😂😂.

2.) 28 Sep 2020 07:21:55
We’re still around Davedean82. Give it out you have to take it. Embarrassing against West Ham ala Chelsea against West Brom. Will still be in top six at end of the season once our record signings gel.
We move the clocks back on this site next month to 1982.

3.) 28 Sep 2020 09:40:26
Tried to warn you about that Barcelona reserve player you signed🤷‍♂️ Surely you ask yourself why Barcelona would be letting go of a young player, and why was he stepping down from a team at the pinnacle to a team not even in Europe and not exactly a glamorous place to live.

27 Sep 2020 16:17:06
Something has to be done about this, stupid handball ruling. Game after game is being ruined, it's just stupid . The one Iv just watched, with Dyer was unbelievable. How when you have your back to the ball and the ball is headed onto your arm from behind, can it be called a penalty. The Refs know it's stupid, but that's what they are told to do . This is just another way they are destroying our beautiful game .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

1.) 27 Sep 2020 18:01:09
Proper sickener Dave, it’s not football anymore. Thing is it’s the FA changing the rules then the refs are getting the abuse, but they are just doing as they are told to!

24 Sep 2020 23:20:07
Tonight proved how still need good, defensive cover . Fair-enough Engels is injured, but when you have to play Elmo at CH, it shows we are lacking . I like Elmo, he is a good squad player, will have a steady game, wherever you play him . Another problem is LB, Taylor is just not good enough . Targett gets the nod over Taylor, simply because he is better going forward. But defensively not a lot better, time and again he tends to loose his player. When you see some of the good young LB who have had transfers, it makes you wonder why we showed no interest. A good LB and LW would turn us into a really good side .
I think our buys so far are looking, really good .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

1.) 25 Sep 2020 00:52:16
Agreed on all of the above Dave. I must admit i was surprised/ disappointed that one of Revan or Bridge didn't at least make the bench today. I suppose they might be under consideration to go out on loan or something but given the clubs vision for its youngsters I struggle with the logic of playing older players out of position in a league cup game against championship opposition rather than giving a couple of 20 yr old centre backs a bit of game time or at least bench experience.
Don't get me wrong, really happy with the overall direction of the team and plenty of positives to take from tonight, just a tad frustrating as would've been a good opportunity to give the next generation some exposure.

2.) 25 Sep 2020 07:32:20
I agree with you DBS I can only think that with the exception of Ramsey he doesn’t rate the current crop of youngsters sufficiently to play them.

3.) 25 Sep 2020 09:52:55
Davedean82 - we looked good tonight, but with our lack of defensive quality we'll get found out big time against teams that play at pace, and because we have no real leader (yes mings springs to mind, but that's not enough) I hope we bring in an old battle horse, a Craig Dawson or wes Morgan type, as in maybe not the best but it's what they bring to team in spirit and grit that matters, hopefully we'll do something before the window closes, I'd rather have an experienced defender than another one with 'potential', personally I'd bring in 2 old warriors and rotate them, but each to their own, maybe deano will surprise us all!

4.) 25 Sep 2020 10:23:14
Class you mention other teams with pace will do damage to us yet in the same breath you then mention we should get 2 old warriors with no pace at all come on my old China what's it's to be?

5.) 25 Sep 2020 10:35:23
Craig Dawson or Wes Morgan? Got to be a wind up.

6.) 25 Sep 2020 11:07:06
Konsa is better than Mings imo he will be one hell of a player.

7.) 25 Sep 2020 11:46:27
Further to what 82 said and I agree with him, I’d be looking at Cahill or Pontus Jannsen types though, squad players, leaning towards saying get Sturridge in for experience up top too, be creative, can’t always go for players with potential/ sell on value, we don’t need to be a selling club with our owners wealth

UTV.

8.) 25 Sep 2020 12:37:00
We'd probably be better off with Les Dawson and Piers Morgan 😁.

9.) 25 Sep 2020 12:58:44
We should go get Tuanzebe or Mepham. I think Engels is done. I know he’s injured just now, but I think the Trust has gone. Maybe that Spurs game did for him in Smith’s eyes?

Also. I love Konsa. He has an almost limitless ceiling that boy. But right now I don’t think he’s better than Mings. Against Sheff Utd, Martinez and Mings talked him through the game. he’s becoming as good as he is because Mings is helping him. Imo.

10.) 25 Sep 2020 14:20:55
Spot on there ant, I was delighted to see both of them link up for the goal last week, we didn’t capitalise enough on corners last season it almost seemed like a waste of time and a risk not worth taking sending up the CB’s last year, excluding the time mings completely mugged auba in the arsenal game that was class lol.

11.) 25 Sep 2020 16:02:55
Probably the kiss of death but Konsa is just, if not more, composed than Stones and he went for £50m. Him, Ramsey and Watkins could be the backbone of our team for years to come and let's not forget the likes of Barry, Chukwuese (spelling lol) etc 😁.

24 Sep 2020 21:30:29
Good display by what you could call our 2nd team . Everybody did well, except perhaps, once again Taylor . You couldn't ask for a better debut than Traore, what a great goal . Davis first half display was brilliant, he deserved to cap it off with a goal . Watkins showed in his short time, just how good he could be for us .
Over all good, roll on Stoke .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

1.) 24 Sep 2020 21:58:51
I agree on a very good display Dave, I would just add El Ghazi to accompany Taylor to the Exit door, not good enough the pair of them.
We know all about Taylor, but El Ghazi has had his chance many times and keeps blowing it.

2.) 24 Sep 2020 22:40:44
So its only me that realised traore shaped for a cross and miss hit it on his weaker foot then. No negativity btw just sayin wat i saw. El ghazi what can i say we are moving on and he's lagging behind. Taylor is not enough to push targett on to be a better player we need recruiting at lb asap. Hause is bang average aswell. Watkins is proving me wrong i was worried he might struggle turns out he's a natural good man and davis very happy he got himself a long term deal with wesley hopefully fit sooner or later i don't think we need anymore cover upfront. A couple of seasons ago that wouldve been a tough fixture shows how far we've come tonight great result from the B boys. Next please. 🤗 also did JT do his interview on his knees or was gulliver asking the questions 😂.

3.) 24 Sep 2020 23:04:43
Traore, s goal was as slick as it could be, it was no miss hit NV.

4.) 24 Sep 2020 23:08:59
You can’t say for certain what Traore was trying to do, only he knows that, so it’s a bit big headed to be claiming only you who ‘knows’ what he was attempting. Also there’s a massive debate about it on Twitter, so far 58% are saying it was a mid hit cross.

5.) 25 Sep 2020 01:16:19
Sorry everyone who i have spoken to thinks he meant it hence the only me who noticed statement i'm not trying to be a big head 😂. This is the problem with social media everyone gets the wrong idea when you can't hear tone of voice or sarcasm etc you know? Anyhoo it was a mis hit and let's move on. Hope he does it every week if they go in utv.

6.) 25 Sep 2020 07:35:31
Does it really matter?
He scored end of story.

7.) 25 Sep 2020 09:09:06
Was just going to say the same thing natural, no one can tell they way things are meant when it’s just text on a screen😂 for what it’s worth I still can’t work out if he meant it or not!

8.) 25 Sep 2020 10:20:30
i am with you NaturalVillan, it looked like a cross to me, he was looking at across the box and not at the goal.

Doesnt matter though, many goals are mis-hits, he is a player that will make things happen. The goal for me was all about the ball from Ramsay, he has some blistering passes on him, very excited for his future.

Keinan is so good on the ball too, hope he finds a finish real soon.

9.) 25 Sep 2020 13:06:59
Re: Traore. he didn’t mis-hit it. it was a lovely connection. However. he does daily himself in his AVTV interview that it was a bit lucky, but also that if you don’t try things, you don’t score. So sounds like it was a shot, but he didn’t expect it to fly in like it did. Probably because it was his ‘wrong’ foot. I don’t honestly care. that goal was a a thing of beauty, JJ’s run and looped past, and the exquisite finish to cap it off. And Davis’ assist for Anwar was outstanding. If he can stay fit, think he could have a massive season for us.

10.) 25 Sep 2020 18:52:41
Just seen this comment from Traore re special goal “I just decided that when I got the ball I wanted to put it in [with] one touch, I was a bit lucky but you have to try. If you don’t try, it is never a goal. "

If it’s correct abut Nelsson, then perhaps Engles injury is worse than thought .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

{Ed002's Note - Victor Nelsson (CB) Copenhagen value the youngster at €10M putting off interest from Gent, Celtic and Gronigen. One assumes at the behest of Johan Lange, Aston Villa have made their interest known, as have Union Berlin.}

Should be a good move for him, he reminds me a lot of Andreas Weimenn . Busy player lots of energy and the game time at Burton, will do him good . I wouldn’t think the physical side of their game will faze him, because his time as sub, he certainly put hisself about .
