Villa have saved c£50m gross a year in salaries in players sold or loaned out this summer.
I’d be amazed if the net saving on salaries wasn’t close to £15m a year.
This was clearly an objective during this window.
Let’s hope the end product is at least competitive.

If Emery was going, he would have gone before now. With the upheaval we have suffered, this was always going to be a difficult season. We need 3-4 in before the window closes, and give Emery time to work his magic on the training ground. Ok, so we get hammered today. It's one game, it's not the end of the world.

Getting beaten 4-0 was bad, but I'm so disappointed with Watkins, I don't even care about the result. End of an era for one of my favourite Villa players in my years of supporting. Definitely better than Nedelkovic though. It's the one position we will be genuinely stronger in. Might be a risky statement to make, but I think Suzuki might be stronger as well. I loved Martinez, and he makes some great saves, but he also makes plenty of mistakes and cost us big time in 2025 against United, followed up by his transfer antics ever since.
For me, it's a slightly hesitant good riddance.

I’d love for Villa to keep Watkins and suspend him from any official club training. Not pay him until he changes his attitude. I know it won’t happen, it’s cutting your nose off to spite your face, but if money wasn’t an issue it would be applauded by fans all over.
Just remember Emery stuck with Watkins throughout last season and even sold Malen !!!

That is true, Tom, but nowhere in his contract does it say he has to be picked to start every game. It does, however, say he has to train and make himself available for every match as long as he's not injured. Nobody made him sign that contract; he chose to leave the Championship and come to Villa in the Premier League.

Looks like you may have hit the nail on the head, 74. Ordonez is off to Palace. The only thing I'd say is Ordonez is currently injured, so it would be 4-5 weeks before he's even fit again.
I don't know. What a transfer window this has been, and not in a great way so far.

Cash and Torres in the back four look very suspect. They seem to keep playing each other into a blind alley. Torres' clear lack of pace and thought on the ball when under pressure was a little concerning.
I said a fractured start, but wasn't expecting that performance today, particularly 1st half.
Damage limitation in the 2nd half, and, thankfully, Brighton seemed to run out of steam or lack of killer instinct. It could have been 7 or 8.
Onto the transfer window, and see what rabbits can be pulled out of the hat.
