Rumour from guys I meet before the game were saying that Emery will wait to see if we're in CL before deciding on next move.
Sort of makes sense and the rumour about Madrid seems to be very much part of his decision.
1.) 01 Feb 2026 17:19:28
Funnily enough Trinity I’ve heard much the same thing. Apparently whatever we achieve be it qualification for CL winning the Europa League we are still going to be in difficulty financially and dependent on our level of success we will have to sell 2 maybe 3 current first teamers. In terms of incomings we will look at free transfers and players from abroad as the salary demands aren’t as great as established PL players. I was told we have offered contracts to 2 Bundesliga players and 1 La Liga who are free in the summer no names were mentioned and apparently the players concerned are keeping options open before committing to anyone.
As a consequence Emery is frustrated however the board have drawn up a list of potential replacements should Unai leave. I accept this is purely speculation and obviously time will tell whether any of this is accurate or not but you could understand if what was shared contains a grain of truth.
21 Jan 2026 09:09:51
Ruben Loftus-Cheek?
Didn't even know he was still playing.
1.) 21 Jan 2026 13:25:25
I liked him at Chelsea however he is a tad injury prone if memory serves me right
2.) 21 Jan 2026 22:01:42
Can’t say he would excite me, just another in the sancho category
3.) 22 Jan 2026 08:16:06
Have to say Whack I agree with you.
4.) 22 Jan 2026 11:30:47
At the moment we need bodies in the door and unfortunately bodies that are relatively cheap and I don’t think players that excite you come cheap. An ex England international for £15-20 million isn’t a bad deal in my view, as I said before my only concern would be fitness
5.) 22 Jan 2026 13:53:24
Agree LotM. January notoriously bad for value.
6.) 22 Jan 2026 14:03:16
The transfer fee seems ok but he would want big money, I’d rather raid the championship for an up and coming talent like we did with Roger’s, obviously Roger’s was an absolute gem and they don’t all work out like that but the risk is similar to Stirling and you won’t have to pay astronomical wages.
Liverpool certainly don’t seem likely to take Elliot back and supposedly he doesn’t want to go to the mls.
7.) 22 Jan 2026 15:05:47
With Elliott I think he has only played for us 3 times so we can play him a further 6 times without triggering the obligation to buy. He can play anywhere across the frontline, surely we could make use of him particularly tonight as Onana, Kamara, and McGinn are all out I am really surprised Emery hasn’t been able to utilise him because in my view he’s a good player.
8.) 22 Jan 2026 16:55:19
100% agree I find it weird he hasn’t squeezed a few more games out of him, I think he’s trying to send a message to Liverpool that we won’t be buying him and that’s that, maybe trying to force them into renegotiating but I genuinely think he’s doesn’t want him at any price let alone 35 million
9.) 22 Jan 2026 17:21:22
Having seen the teams I worry about tonight, particularly the Duran/Asensio link
10.) 22 Jan 2026 17:40:25
The problem with playing Elliott for even one more game is that we're basically telling Liverpool we do want/need him and they'll hold out hoping to get the £35m.
I personally don't rate him above bench cover, most of his Liverpool cameos have been either basic keep ball when winning or 'pass it to Salah'.
He made a difference for England U21s but so many players in the past have looked great at that level and not gone on to do much.
20 Jan 2026 17:44:25
Mateta the latest doing the rounds.
I'd take him over Abraham but be very surprised if this one happened.
1.) 20 Jan 2026 22:02:09
Id love to see him at villa but i'd imagine it would be very expensive and probably beyond our budget especially if we have to bring in a center midfielder. En Nesyri is another I’d like.
2.) 21 Jan 2026 09:12:59
Transfer fee would be a problem however his current contract is rumoured to be worth c£50k per week which I think would be well within our grasp +25% to make it worthwhile for him. Certainly a better use of money than some individuals we've got.
20 Jan 2026 12:20:23
Confirmed: Kamara out for the rest of the season.
The hits just keep on coming.
Feel absolutely gutted now.
A devastating blow and with McGinn's injury to be assessed this could now be turning into a crisis.
1.) 20 Jan 2026 13:57:04
This truly is bad news trinity, he is the one player in the team that we really struggle without when he don’t play, most other positions we can move guys around to accommodate. I wonder if Lindelof could do a job in the center?
2.) 20 Jan 2026 14:44:46
That's a good shout re: Lindelof and I actually said to my lad I wonder if he could slot into that role.
3.) 20 Jan 2026 18:25:30
When we played arsenal at VP didn’t Emery bring him on as a sub for the last 15-20 mins in the CDM role, I think he did. if you asked me 2 months ago I’d of said no chance he’s a donkey but he really proved himself when he got a run of games I have to say I have a new found respect for him but Kamara is a real hard act to follow.
that ref in the spurs game really buggered us, absolutely no protection from him for our players
11 Jan 2026 10:07:27
Now being reported that were after Tammy Abraham. Any substance or lazy journalism?
I think that ship has sailed tbh but if the numbers made sense then maybe there is something in it.
1.) 11 Jan 2026 10:25:53
We need another striker, no brainer for me ??♂️
UTV
2.) 11 Jan 2026 11:52:26
If we got Tammy, and Gallagher, I wouldn’t bet against us? I wonder… Athletico wanted Martinez in the summer (rumoured) so I wonder if there’s some kind of swap/swap and cash thing going to happen ??♂️
UTV
3.) 12 Jan 2026 15:11:35
It looks increasingly likely that we will se another striker join but at the expense of Malen leaving. I'd be disappointed if this one is accurate. He fits into the system we play and has quick feet and seems to interact well with Rogers and Buendia. Think he's really settled into the team now and is an asset. Surely everyone could see that on Saturday?
4.) 12 Jan 2026 17:06:31
I agree trinity, maybe things will make more sense come the end of the month
5.) 13 Jan 2026 19:05:27
I've read a number of times now in different places that Malen is concerned about his playing time and that's why he's happy to speak to/join Roma. but I can't see how he's going to be guaranteed anymore playing time there? And has been picked ahead of Watkins due to form?
I'd half understand if there was a high transfer fee being offered, but even with that it's mindless to loan him out until the summer and then bring in a bang average fee for him.
£22m? he's got to be worth close to double that.

Worst Premier League I’ve ever seen.
We’re 4th and we are absolute s****!!
Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd are all as bad.
1.) 15 Mar 2026 20:05:48
Agree. How are we 4th? It's a joke. I know 1 thing, there's no chance Unai goes to Real, or United, not a chance, even Chelsea. I hope our owners have somebody else lined up, cos Unai's time's nearly up. Players need a new voice, in my opinion, and we need an attacking manager. Hurtzler, Iraola, Knudson from Bodo Glimt, or Mattius Jissape, or Xavi.
2.) 15 Mar 2026 20:21:09
You really have a short memory, VJ. You need to give your head a wobble, and reflect on our performance in the decade before our current manager took up post. Unai may go. If he does, though, it will be of his own volition, not because we sack him.
And don't be so sure he won't end up at Madrid; he is apparently second favourite after Klopp. One of the things which may make him stay is the freedom he has been given on all footballing matters, which he would be unlikely to get at other clubs.
3.) 15 Mar 2026 20:40:32
Who cares. Its now that matters, not bothered where we were 10 yrs ago. Its a results business, Im afraid, and theres no chance Unai gets Real Madrid job. Unai is a bottler, hasnt won jck all for ages. Villa hasnt played well since xmas, and our style of play is shocking, and Unai has wasted millions on crap, Onana, Torres, Tammy, Barrencha, Guessand.
Barkley, Allyson, Maduro, Maatsen aswell, Sanco, Elliot, Dobbing, Illing Jnr.
Only Rodgers and Tielemans, and Duran have been good signings, I for 1 wont be sad if Unai leaves.
4.) 15 Mar 2026 20:56:21
Villa are 4th in the league and in a good position in Europe. And people are calling for Emery's head? Am I understanding this correctly?
It'll be an extremely sad and detrimental day when Emery leaves Aston Villa, and I'll take no pleasure in dropping a massive "I told you so" when we are languishing in 14th.
But I will do it nonetheless. He is performing absolute miracles with this squad, and anybody who thinks we can get a manager who would have a bigger impact doesn't know football!
5.) 15 Mar 2026 21:28:12
I'm certainly not calling for Emery to go.
I stand by the fact we haven't played well this year in many games, probably only 3 or 4.
With the other teams failing to capitalise, it does give us an opportunity, but we must beat West Ham.
Another lacklustre performance, and I can see us dropping out of the top 4.
Win, get to the international break, and start again in mid April. Sounds easy, but it's difficult to see how given our form since January.
6.) 15 Mar 2026 22:15:57
We are on a horrible run of form, there is no escaping that. But to ignore the huge volumes of context, and simply blame Emery or team selection, is very short-sighted - Villa are punching well above their weight, and Emery is the primary reason for this! I've said it a few times recently, Villa have an outstanding 11, but once you chip away at that, we don't have a huge amount of depth, and, unlike the "big" clubs, we can't simply throw money at the problem.
We played a team today who can spend 90M on Antony, realise he doesn't fit the system, loan him out for the remainder of his contract, and replace him with 75M Bryan Mbuemo - and you can tell a similar tale for Rasmus Hojlund (80M), Sancho (80M), Pogba (90M), the list goes on.
Villa need to be absolutely perfect, and currently we are far from it, but Emery is operating with one hand tied behind his back, and still has us competing - people will rue the day they called for his sacking; once he goes, Villa will plummet. I've said it a lot in the past when I see bed wetters calling for Emery to be relieved of his duties the moment we hit a bump in the road. We don't deserve good things as a fan base.
7.) 16 Mar 2026 09:48:18
Exactly. This is more or less the same team Gerrard had. Only now, we are more controlling and demanding!
8.) 16 Mar 2026 12:06:34
Hi Jonny.
You mention crap players bought by Unai, but Villa are buying from Poundland, whilst City, Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool are buying from Harrods. Do you really think a £20m player is going to be as good as a £60 m player?
Villa have spent peanuts, not by choice, but because the system says we have to, and yet we are still above Chelsea and Liverpool, who spent £480 m in the summer.
Do you think City would be in our position if Pep only spent £40m over 3 years?
Unai has performed miracles.
Yes, the football isn't as free flowing as when he first came, but that is to be expected. The team needs rebuilding, the average age yesterday was over 29. But how do we rebuild if we can't spend?
We are not the only team in this situation, but we are still nearer the top than the bottom. Would you prefer to be West Ham, Burnley, Forest, Spurs or Leeds?
9.) 16 Mar 2026 12:29:17
There's money being wasted, there's quality players out there for cheap. Our scouts just need to look Championship, l1, Scottish leagues
French league, Africa, South America, Belgium, Denmark. Other clubs do it, but not Villa.
Unai can't even blood and gel our youth players like other managers do. The talent is there as well at our club, it's just Unai doesn't want to blood them.
10.) 16 Mar 2026 15:01:02
You're assuming we aren't scouting those leagues, though, VJ - I'm sure we have quite an extensive network of scouts, but if it was that easy, everybody would be doing it, right? Villa have bought young players, and they simply haven't been up to the necessary standards. And yes, I know you will say, "How do we know if we don't play them?" Emery will have seen enough of them to know if they will make an impact or not. Also, Emery, the club & the fans want success now, and blooding young players takes time unless you happen upon the next Wayne Rooney.
We have Allyson, Madja & Cisse, who will be amongst the first team next year, I'm sure, as will Hemmings, as there is absolutely a massive need to reduce the average age of the squad in the summer. I expect us to look completely different come the end of the summer window, let's hope that is with the aid of the Champions League money.
11.) 16 Mar 2026 15:54:37
I hope so, bk. We need to take the age down and get pace in the team.
15 Mar 2026 17:41:52.
Donyell Malen, 8 appearances and 6 goals for Roma since his move in January.
Ollie Watkins, 28 appearances and 8 goals for Villa.
The biggest mistake by Emery since he became manager back in October 2022.
1.) 15 Mar 2026 21:37:01
Malen didn't fit how Emery plays. He's a very good player in a team that plays to his strengths, which we didn't, unfortunately.
2.) 15 Mar 2026 22:25:20
Shocking decision to sell him and Duran as well. Watkins should have been sold instead of Duran, Duran a much better finisher and more deadly.
3.) 15 Mar 2026 22:36:12
Duran is a decent player, however, this season he has 6 goals in 25 games, hardly an example of a deadly finisher and definitely not prolific.
4.) 16 Mar 2026 07:04:41
Lost his since he got bag of cash from Saudi. He's still baller though, miles better than Watkins or Tammy, in fact better than all our strikers.
5.) 16 Mar 2026 14:46:48
Serie A is a trash league. Keenan Davis has 9 goals for Udinese this season, and is 4th highest scorer in the league. He is scoring 1 in 2.
15 Mar 2026 16:02:28
How can anyone defend Watkins?
The guy is completely and utterly done. Can’t finish a sentence.
Looks like he’s never played football in his life.
All that talk about him carrying an injury, don’t buy it.
He has been poor all season. His performances must affect the rest of the team.
15 Mar 2026 13:06:06.
The inclusion of Barkley and Mings into the starting XI is interesting.
Emery looking at Thursday night perhaps?
Watkins starts again, that is more of a surprise than anything.
12 Mar 2026 19:49:29
???
Have I just been mugged off by Watkins?
I call it as I see it and One goal in 7 appearances isn’t good enough.
Grateful for his goal tonight but should have had another goal.
Anyway, a win. Tie far from over. I thought Lille were poor (that’s not an excuse for our win, just an observation) Cannot believe they’ll be as bad again.
29 Jan 2026 19:33:31
72, we can dream.
Think it’s a loan unfortunately.
29 Jan 2026 15:34:57
Yes, read that earlier. It shouldn't be a surprise that he's linked to top jobs in Europe as he's one of the best in Europe.
Be gutted if he left. Fingers crossed it comes to nothing and is idle media gossip.
One thing is for sure, he wouldn't have PSR concerns there.
29 Jan 2026 15:24:58
Re: Guessand, signing him has to go down as one of the worst pieces of business we've done in recent times.
Not sure about JPM to be honest, really not sure.
This has been one difficult transfer window.
25 Jan 2026 08:11:49
Yes, I heard that too.
Agree, the lad hasn’t done anything wrong. He’s been a victim of circumstance.
Feel sorry for him.
22 Jan 2026 13:53:24
Agree LotM. January notoriously bad for value.
15 Mar 2026 21:28:12
I'm certainly not calling for Emery to go.

15 Mar 2026 17:38:21
Scot, I have been banging on about our poor defensive record for 2 years now, and have been pilloried by one or two on here for doing so.
It's basic. We concede far too many goals for far too long.
We are boring to watch. Too slow with the ball.
Not enough pace, and as for Watkins, I believe his days are numbered. Unfortunately, Malen was moved on because he wasn't being played in his preferred position.
That particular deal is looking more and more like an absolute disaster.
15 Mar 2026 16:06:50
Only won 3 from last 12 league games.
Absolutely shocking.
I can't see us beating Spurs at the moment.
We haven't played well for a majority of the season. Won games we didn't deserve to.
This has been coming for a long time.
Lille at home on Thursday. I really don't fancy us.
Emery has to change it. It's gone very stale.
27 Feb 2026 22:23:59
And we sold Malen! Watkins should have been dropped 4 months ago. Malen deserved a chance.
27 Feb 2026 21:38:53
Complete lack of drive, pace, urgency until it's too late. I'm sorry, Emery can stand and wave his hands frantically on the touchline all he wants, but he's drilled the players to play this slow way for the last 3 years; suddenly expecting them to play quick football is unrealistic. This is what happens: concede and then we're in trouble.
