Probably one of the worst pieces of "journalism" I've ever seen on the BM and that says a lot.
" According to TyC journalist Gaston Edul, Inter have seen a €15 million (£12.9m) offer rejected by Villa. However, the Champions League finalists are said to be preparing a 'higher proposal' in order to try to convince Villa to sell this summer, although it's likely to take a lot more than the €15 million mentioned in order for Unai Emery and Co to even consider cashing in."

I think they left out a zero on the figure?
With the players we bought and are trying to bring in I really can’t see him leaving this year I think he will want to see where we go this year.

Well our totally slow, cumbersome and woeful defense really did get put to sword by Bayern tonight, we sure did coke unstuck - all those pessimistic comments were right!

Did I read somewhere that Archer is back at Villa due to an obligation in his contract? If so tbh I'd be giving him a season and letting Duran go. much better attitude and money in the bank
1.) 10 Jul 2024 14:20:33
Archer is rubbish compared to duran
2.) 11 Jul 2024 00:55:09
I agree he’s not as good, but he’s never had a tantrum either and Duran is on about his 4th now

When you think about the current midfield 3 of JM, DL and YT and what we paid for them all.
We've managed to assemble one of the best midfields in the league for about 18m!
In this day in football, that's an absolute bargain.
1.) 23 Nov 2023 04:31:14
And bouba aswell free transfer neb aswell, fair play to steve bruce getting mcggin, and deano aswell getting dougie, even gerreard aswell getting us bouba .not like we are going to sell them but in todays market how much are jm, dl, and bouba worth i'd say dougie 80/90 mill bouba 60/70 and mcggin 60 mil
2.) 23 Nov 2023 13:24:05
Yeah absolutely, great shout with Kamara too who I totally forgot was a free! That’s 4 top midfields for less than £20m and all of should fetch double that if ever sold!
Some of our recruitment since we came back up hsnt worked out for the best, but some of it has been magical!
3.) 23 Nov 2023 14:31:43
Agree mate we don't rush when we sign players now we have plan which is good where b4 there wasnt

So what does everyone think about Zaniola?
Am I only one who can't help but doubt his version of events and find it hard to share his optimism?
Obviously I'd love if there's no problem and it all just gets quashed on Friday or whenever they've spoken with him.
But the logical part of me can't help remembering that two of the others have already admitted their part and one already punished. and the other awaiting punishment.
I just have a serious concern that the investigations have been pretty thorough and there's something he's either "forgotten" about or is deliberately hiding. especially as I had read there were incriminating recordings of him.
Thought there may already be a conversation about it on here.
1.) 25 Oct 2023 20:16:39
Neb, no smoke without fire, just remember he has been incriminated by one of his own. Personally if he is innocent I hope he is able to clear his name. Based on his performances so far, I would be very surprised if his loan is extended irrespective of the outcome of the inquiry.
2.) 25 Oct 2023 22:49:19
He used an app or site to play poker that is apparently illegal in Italy. If he had any involvement in football betting his agent and the club would have told him to come forward immediately. I'm sure he's intelligent enough to know that a 3 year ban for hiding it would ruin his career.
Performance wise he has been one of our better players, the goals and assists will come.
I personally think he's the missing piece of the puzzle. He has more pace and physicality than Buendia whilst having more technical ability and cleverness than Ramsey. A bit more time to gel with his teammates and I think he will start to shine.
3.) 25 Oct 2023 23:27:25
Not really sure how relevant our take on the situation is when nobody really has a clue what's gone on. How accurate his version of events is will also be largely meaningless when the facts are assessed by prosecutors. Only time will tell and hopefully we'll find out soon enough.
Until then, he remains a part of a team performing well and should have our backing.
4.) 26 Oct 2023 09:16:25
I agree with RK. If he is hiding something he is taking a huge risk. Most likely he has messages on a phone about the same time as messages from Tonali, and speculative conclusions have been drawn without real evidence. On performance, he needs a goal or assist. He's trying too hard at the moment.
5.) 26 Oct 2023 12:35:13
As a player I like him and agree that it seems like he’s trying a bit too hard at the moment, but has had glimpses of looking a top player, he’s already contributed more than Coutinho who he essentially replaced anyway.
I do however have some worries about him getting a lengthy ban. After seeing Tonali has this morning been banned and all of them being named at the same time. I would assume the evidence was aa compelling for each of those accused before they were named.
However DBS is right, until something is said officially. It’s just speculation
6.) 26 Oct 2023 20:09:42
I still want to know what's going on with Pacqueta. The evidence against him is there for all to see and yet that seems to have disappeared without so much as a conversation with him.

Just a simple reminder of the times we've played well, won already this season and this has been dismissed as "it's just one game" "long way to go" "don't get carried away"
So is today, but you'll still see this page erupt with negativity from the same people who play down any positivity- regardless

Fairly sure this is now off and Hull pulled out.

William Salt? He did his internship at Villa/Forest/ And if i remember rightly he was on our books at the time the incident happened but wasn't under Villas instruction - we'd basically loaned him to Southampton to finish his studies, he didn't ever return after spygate and joined saints properly last month.

Yeah, the agent change seems to have changed everything. He's gone from sounding like he wants to play and improve to being more than happy to sit on Man City's bench and get rich.
20 Jul 2026 22:48:52
Fairly sure Mingueza signed for Palace already, but agree thought he'd have been ideal for us.
26 Jan 2026 23:42:49
Can see why he goes with Tammy! Imagine how much that would cost in letters!

I said England, not Europe, which is why I used Henderson going on loan to Ajax as my example. And Diaby *didn't* return to England.... So my "speculation" hasn't even been disproven...
Agree, Whack.
25 Aug 2026 22:17:36
Although it's a valid observation, as Man City always seem to do it when they sell players also, I think in the Delap example didn't Chelsea exploit his 30m release clause? I don't think Ipswich valued him at 30, but that was the price that was activated, like with us and Youri.
So I guess, in theory, Chelsea could argue they always valued him at 50m and got a bargain.
Never seen him doing anything that was all that impressive though, even at Ipswich I just thought he was average. However, I feel the same way about Jackson.

I am certainly not an expert by any means, but at least from my understanding - it's not just about these two players or anyone else applicable being on "higher" wages in other countries, it's actually a lot to do with tax.
In Saudi the tax rate is 0, I think, and as long as you don't plan on returning to the UK within, after say a year for a quick payday, you won't be taxed at all on any wage earnt there.
And in Turkiye I believe it's 15 or 20%.
This is a pretty significant difference in the wages you actually take home.
Like for example, let's say that Villa COULD offer 300k p/w to Diaby to match his current wage. He would still be worse off here because in the UK, with a 50% tax bracket, that's 150k take home. Whereas at the moment he takes home the full 300k.
If we look at Jordan Henderson, the reason he joined Ajax after he didn't like it in SA was because, if he returned to the UK directly, he'd have been subject to UK tax law and they'd have wanted half of his earnings!
It's my understanding that tax plays just as much of a factor in these decisions as the offered wage does.
And that is the attraction for someone like Salah for example. High wage, low tax.
With all that boring, complicated s*** out of the way, I just hope we can bring at least 2 more additions after Ruggeri (assuming that's still going through!). I think we need at least one more attacking player and another CM, but I'd also like another RB if possible.
The squad showed more than once last season that we struggled with the extra demand and extra games, and this year the level of competition in Europe will be better being the Champions League. I don't think we can go in with a smaller squad and not expect to run into problems.

I genuinely don't understand the reasoning behind signing Guessand. He's never even seemed to fit into the team, even when he's played, let alone add anything to it or felt good enough to be there. I don't even know what his best position is?
He's not a proper winger, he's not a striker, he's not a number 10.
Whether there was an idea that his size and strength could make him a wing back, I'm not sure, but he's basically been a total failure in every department!!!
08 Aug 2026 11:41:35
The problem with Diaby is that he currently earns around 300k per week and has been in Saudi long enough for the restriction to be lifted and allow him to earn his full wage... I always rated him, and liked him too, and was disappointed when he left, but without taking a significant pay cut, I can't see how he will return any time soon.
I'd take Asensio back in a heartbeat, but again, I would imagine the issue is what he currently earns vs what we are realistically able to pay.
With Rogers, Yt and Digne off the wage bill, there's definitely some room there for once. But, I think we still need a number of additions, and so I guess that has to be spread over 2/3 players rather than given to just one.
