Another youngster Villa are reported to be chasing, this time its Aaron Hickley from Hearts. Villa really seem to be trying to fast track the development of the U23's inline with Purslow's comments last year.
Fingers crossed we get a few established pro's through the door in time for pre season too!

*Hickey - apolgies for the typo.

Afternoon all, just a quick heads up that I just heard from a friend close to Exeter City that Villa are close to signing Ben Chrisene. very highly thought of apparently although can't say I've ever seen him in action myself.

Villa confirm RDM as manager with Clarke as no.2!

DBS1983

1.) 02 Jun 2016 13:49:16
at last. things will start to move now.

2.) 02 Jun 2016 13:51:46
Great quote on the BBC:

"Clarke will take hands-on responsibility for Villa's group of underachieving players".

That'll be all of them then .

3.) 02 Jun 2016 13:57:02
Buzzing Di Matteo tactically very good from his record and Clark old school won't stand the things we saw this season could be a great balance, onwards and upwards!

4.) 02 Jun 2016 13:57:40
Where you seen this?

5.) 02 Jun 2016 14:05:27
BBC Website.

6.) 02 Jun 2016 14:49:07
Dream Team
What a coup
Ask the baggies if they would have em over Pullis
I think so.

7.) 02 Jun 2016 15:04:08
I must admit i had and still do have reservations about Di Matteo, but with Clarke there too i'm a lot more confident going into the season.
Between them they have a bit of charisma and a very good tactical awareness which should do us well. plus a bit of 'good cop, bad cop' in the dressing room. even if that does sound a bit kinky. i'd much rather kinky than Randy though.

8.) 02 Jun 2016 15:58:14
this will be signed off tomoz. it's not yet been signed but there is no problems and they will do.

9.) 02 Jun 2016 14:47:25
Holy shmoly, i'm actually very excited by rdm and clarke as his number two, this is as shrewd a move at villa i've seen in many a year, i just hope that flackie, mendax, villadaz and the others get on board and stop being so negative, all those posts doubting our great leader, see, i told you guys not to jump to conclusions!

10.) 02 Jun 2016 18:03:18
Kingvilla, you rascal, you were right all along! i just don't understand how all the others ever doubted you! they got to name that stand after ya now surely?

11.) 02 Jun 2016 18:15:38
Do I sense a twang of sarcasm?!
I've not once been negative at our new owner, or the idea of rdm!

Quite the opposite!

12.) 02 Jun 2016 18:26:08
Hahahahhahahhahahahhahaha classof82 pure class comment I nearly wet maself.

13.) 02 Jun 2016 18:43:17
I wanted moyes from the moment garde was sacked and was disappointed when he pulled out of the running but di matteo with clarke as his assistant has got me excited about next season. UTV.

14.) 02 Jun 2016 18:49:43
Hopefully tomorrows statement announcing rdm as manager will include an update on the takeover!

15.) 02 Jun 2016 18:53:22
Looking at the comments people have made on the BBC Sport site following the announcement, general reaction from all quarters seems very positive. There are the usual pathetic slights from jealous blue-arses, but I read one brilliant suggestion as to what to do with Flabby next season. Put him out on loan to BCFC - that would teach him :)

16.) 02 Jun 2016 20:28:25
Sarcasm, moi? now then flackie, i like you never ever had a doubt, but my best mate dr. xia asked me to join this site and report to him the strength of the fans' belief; it was my unfortunate task to play the negative side and see what happens (the pantomime villian ), i was happy to report back to my old mucka tony, the fans had passion and verve, all in all its turned out well and me, i'm a bleedin hero me mate, but listen guys i can't hang around, i'm off to the hospital for an operation, for some peculiar reason my nose has grown about 4 foot long, i can't think why!

19 May 2016 14:44:55
Several qoutes now coming direct from the new Villa owner being prepared to spend up to £50m in the first season. Goes on to say he aims to get Villa into the top 6 within 5 years. which is very optimistic!
I'm pretty sure most new owners have great ambition for their respective clubs but at least its something positive (and confirmed) to focus on eh!
He also confirms that its not a one-horse race for the managerial position. reckon that's why Jose hasn't gone to Utd yet ;)

DBS1983

1.) 19 May 2016 15:27:03
Yeah worry is brendan Rogers is being thrown around a fair bit now, hopefully this takeover will help us keep hold of some players like amavi, and ayew, tho he's had secret talks with west ham anf crystal palace which I'm sure is tapping up.

2.) 19 May 2016 15:53:05
Ive also heard a rumour he is looking at buying into China's main TVs channel star TV, the possibilities are endless if this guy is the real deal.

3.) 19 May 2016 18:41:37
DBS1983 - i have to say mate if we can get out of the championship then spend in the premier there is no reason why we can't finish top half of the premiership in a few years never mind 5! If Leicester can win the dam thing we can have a go too with a good manager and teamwork! Birmingham are you listen to the song we are singing.

4.) 19 May 2016 21:44:28
Hi Devlins - Great to hear some positivity on here and i'm certainly feeling it too. just trying not to get carried away though as it's going to be tough enough getting out of the Championship let alone pushing top 6 in the Prem. One step at a time I think. For now let's just hope we get rid of the overpaid under performers and start to rebuild.
Hopefully if this happens quickly we can get VP rocking with some long overdue wins and take momentum into the Prem where we'll see how ambitious this guy really is.
UTV!

5.) 20 May 2016 00:28:53
well said Devlins, a man with vision.

18 May 2016 13:27:27
A few rumour sites are suggesting Hollis is currently in China to finalise a deal.
Lets hope that if this does go through, Lerner has stuck true to his word and handed over to people with real ambition but who will also act responsibly.

DBS1983

1.) 18 May 2016 16:00:52
Hollis just spotted in Birmingham, so the young guns at The ST Andrews Times "Evening mail". have got it wrong yet again!

According to a French website with an alledged exclusive, the Sanson deal has progressed in the last few hours with talks said to be at a'very advanced stage' and could be concluded within days.
No idea how much credit to give this report though so who knows.

{Ed002's Note - The lady from Marseille is back in England having flown in to Gloucestershire airport.}

Ed I'm not being funny or suggesting your wrong in anyway shape or form I'm just curious where you and the other Ed's get your info from I mean how did you get to find out they flew to Gloucester? I do bow my hat too you.

{Ed002's Note - She has a home in Broadway hence flying in there.}

2.) 18 Jan 2021 20:21:13
Cheers for the update Ed, sounds like something could be happening then.
Didn't see the posts below on this so apologies all.

3.) 18 Jan 2021 20:52:05
Is that favourable for us Ed?

{Ed002's Note - She has a home here and has some discussions in Milan so will be disappearing for day at some point this week.}

Lescott has had another Twitter 'incident' in which he followed Leeds Utd and then quick;y un-followed. Could mean nothing but would be nice if it meant he's on his way!

DBS1983

1.) 04 Aug 2016 15:55:04
actually think he would be a good fit for them! Here's hoping.

22 Jul 2016 17:31:52
Morrison has just started following Villa on twitter. whether that means he's signing or not remains to be seen but would seem a strange thing to do if he wasn't.

Bit of a gamble really, but hopefully a bit of research has been done and he's grown up a bit and is ready prove himself.

DBS1983

1.) 22 Jul 2016 18:21:09
If he has grown up, we should welcome him with open arms if he's as good as he potentially could be

UTV.

A local paper has found info from Companies House revealing that a new holding company has been created, listing Wyness, Hitchkins, Samuelson and Xia as directors.
Holding company is referred to as 'Recon Sports Ltd' and new directors are listed as registered on 27th May.

DBS1983

1.) 06 Jun 2016 19:56:27
so what does that mean mate not with it today must be the sun all i know is next week should be the cut off point. if we are as rich as we all think hope we buy fringe prem players rather than crap championship players newcastles team looks so strong compaŕed to the rest of the league at the moment don't you think they have tim kruel townsend sissko mitovic we need to be at that level mate just because we went down i still think we should aim at buying prem players not championship even norwich are fairly strong we will see how good this chairman is as big ron used to say don't tell me show me!

Well said there. If and only if the team struggle next year after continued investment is it really fair to ask any 'big questions' of Smith. Until then he's certainly earned the right to be given time to develop the squad. Most people would admit we're probably a season ahead of where we were aiming with winning the playoffs when Smith took over, so we've had to progress even quicker which in itself is tough going. With such a positive start and being comfortable in the league I can understand the frustration some show about wanting squad players out, wanting more consistency and the fan mentality of always wanting more, but as a fan base I'd hope most would be able to look at the big picture, recognise the huge strides we're making as a club, get behind the manager and players and enjoy it. Just think where we were 3 years ago!

Calm down Mark, I'm not putting you in any category and was just making a positive point, that its nice for us as Villa fans to have this sort of conversation as things are going well with the club rather than the usual debate about where it's all going wrong.
I haven't tried to make any point other than some of the comments on here suggesting that Ramsey will be competing with our wingers for a starting place seem strange.

Hi Mark, I'm not quite sure what your example is trying to suggest there? When you say attacking midfielder, I'm assuming you mean either the no.10 role or possibly no.8, and aren't talking about playing on the wing?
I can say with some confidence that Smith isn't going to pick any of our wide players ahead of Ramsey in a central position. How many times has he picked any of the players you mention centrally when he's had the option of Ramsey? None as far as I remember, which to me would indicate Smith doesn't see them competing for the same position. Yes there could always be an unusual scenario which changes things - if all our keeper got injured then Hause and Engels would be competing for the goalkeeper position. My point is just than given a usual match day, Ramsey is not competing with the wingers mentioned previously which is where all this started. If you or others see it differently, fair play to you. I just don't understand how you would come to that conclusion on the evidence of this season.
Good conversation though and nice to be talking about this stuff rather than who should be sacked and the club being a shambles eh!

Absolutely no problem with differing ideas Villadave, but my comment was specifically about the suggestion that Ramsey was competing with the likes of Trezeguet and Traore for a starting place. That's not an 'idea', that's just inaccurate.
Anyway, nowt wrong with that either way as you rightly say!

Agreed Chris, I don't understand how people think Ramsey is competing with Trezeguet, Traore etc for a starting place. It's like some people's understanding of football is based purely on Darren Bent's punditry.

Ed - My point was simply that the team have progressed from looking almost certain to go down to being in the top half and having various people calling for our players to be considered for the England team - a pretty good indicator that the coaching set up at Villa is doing at least a reasonable job.

DBS1983

{Ed077's Note - well my point is Maguire is very very average at best🤣🤣

Totally agree Chris, I can understand a few minor frustrations with tactics, timing of subs etc every now and then, but how anyone can think Terry needs to be moved on is beyond me. We have a defensive unit that is the envy of many, players being linked with England call ups and some of the best stats in the league. unless anyone has any genuine inside info, insight or legitimate reasons to 'get rid', this just seems like aimless venting and looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

DBS1983

{Ed077's Note - how is it a good thing that your players can't get a call up ahead of Mediocre Maguire?}

Disappointing performance tonight, especially the first half which was painful at times. too many players passing the buck and not taking responsibility or doing the basics. especially in the final third. Agree with those that were frustrated with not changing things up quickly enough tonight. as soon as they went down to 10 Davis should've been on to occupy their two centre backs.
We shouldn't get too low when we hit a bit of bad form, just as we shouldn't have unrealistic expectations of top 4 after a few wins. We're lucky enough to have a handful of very good players and the rest are mid table players at best, so our form is bound to be up and down. All managers have bad games just as players do, nothing wrong with sharing frustrations but it should be balanced. It's hardly unheard of for a team to dig in, frustrate and hold on to a lead after going down to 10 men and credit to Sheffield United for doing it very well.
We played a blinder against the 10 men of Palace earlier in the season, it didn't work out tonight. Until we get better players in to support the few top level players we have, we're going to have nights like this, but Smith still has a lot of credit in the bank considering how he's guided us so far, let's just hope the club kick on in the summer.

There's probably a few reasons he didn't start. He's barely been at the club a month and with the fixture list being what it is has had very few actual training days. Far better to ease him in rather than rush it and risk fans getting on his back (as us Villa fans often do if we're honest) if he doesn't hit the ground running.
Smith seems the players day in day out in training and he clearly doesn't think he's ready to start which is fair enough.
I'm sure Sanson is professional enough to understand that and if he's the type of player to throw he's toys out of the pram for not starting straight away then his Villa career shouldn't be a long one.

Hi Scott, I think there's a big difference between giving Smith an 'easy ride' and not overreacting to a poor run of form. There have been similar conversations on hear over the last few weeks and in the end most seem to end in broad agreement that a change in a few positions might help and its fair enough to question some of the logic of only making late subs etc. but that's a long way from suggesting Smith and the coaches aren't up to the job or ask some bigger questions.
I don't quite follow the logic of imagining if we'd lost certain games - that thinking can be applied equally to disprove the doom and gloom. We're in a bit of bad form, it happens. Bad form will continue to happen in patches until we're hopefully title challengers one day.
