This is a new part to a previous link which is slippng down the pages. So carrying on villaDave aVilladaz and co, I know they are some decent players around the lower leagues, but I go back to the days when we bought our players from Liverpool, stsunten, houghton, saunders, man Utd God not from notts county or wycombe if you get my drift. We need to be looking upwards not down. But I'm also of the opinion that with deano in charge we won't attract those players. Love him and thank him for getting us where we are but I'd like to see us go out and get Poch and let him bring in the players that he could attract. Just let's be more positive a a club.

1.) 30 Jul 2020 11:45:55
I really like Poch I think he is a fantastic manager but are we really saying Deano in the time you have been with us less than 2 years let’s not forget, thanks for getting us promoted in your first season when let’s be honest most of us thought that was unlikely to happen, thanks for getting us to a cup final where we lost to one of the best sides in Europe but we were competitive, and thanks for keeping us in the premier league when it looks like he had his hands tied when it came to transfers and your thanks is your P45? the guy should be given the freedom of the city not sacked. If we did that to him then no manager with any class should touch us with a 10 foot pole and rightly so . Thankfully the noises coming out of Villa Park suggests we are not going to do anything so crass.

2.) 30 Jul 2020 12:16:16
John, there are lots of managers who have done much more for their club and been sacked, mourinho ancelotti, pearson at leicester, clough, etc etc but it hasn't stopped them being a successful club. It's about ambition and ambitious clubs make ambitious decisions.

3.) 30 Jul 2020 14:33:33
The Mourinho’s and Ancellotis of this world were already at well established Premiership clubs who were expecting to be challenging for trophies every season with established infrastructures we are not at that level at the moment. I cannot think of a club who changes managers every season being successful we only have to look at Watford to see what happens if you are not careful. Ambition is one thing foolhardiness another.

As I said in my previous post I really rate Poch but seriously given his ambition to manage one of the Spanish giants and the time it has taken him to establish his reputation why on earth would you risk that to manage Villa. It takes an age to build a reputation and 5 minutes to lose it. When the time comes to replace the manager which isn’t now I think rather than shopping at Harrods we might need to lower our sights a little maybe Waitrose.

4.) 30 Jul 2020 18:38:35
John remember poch made his name at Southampton and potentially we are much bigger than them. Potentially bigger than spurs if we choose to get someone of his calibre.

5.) 30 Jul 2020 20:38:42
I remember it well SV but he took that job when he was making his name in management not an established name as he is now, so in effect he had very little to lose if he takes on the Villa and it goes wrong he has everything to lose.

Not been on here for a while, so hope you are all well. let's get the upcoming start up going, how do we stay up, what's the best team to achieve it. I've got my thoughts but would like to hear some others.

1.) 01 Jun 2020 20:18:50
Nyland has to go in goal and i would play the same formation as wolves we need two upfront davis an sammata mgcinn grelish nycamba in centre mid. We need to think more postive. The teams we got are good not gona lie but at least fight till the end anybodys beatable. Cbks mings engels konsa.

2.) 03 Jun 2020 16:33:56
WTW I didn't see the Nylan one coming. I think deano will stick with pepe though. I think we need to stop the goals so on that basis I would go pepe, guilbert, engels, mings hause, elmo, mcginn, nakamba target, jack and samatta. Target and elmo would defend better than trex or el gazi but would also get forward. Let jack roam around samatta, mcginn can pull the strings.

Tonights line up
Johnstone,
Hutton Baker Chester Taylor
Jedanik, Hourihane, Lansbury
Adomah, Kodja, Amavi

Any better thoughts.

1.) 07 Mar 2017 12:37:55
Think that's the team that will start, Jedinak in the middle of the 3 and baker next to Taylor for his left foot.

25 Aug 2020 14:21:06
Southgate must really dislike Jack.

10 Aug 2020 07:54:08
Whats peoples opinion on JT persuading Willian to join us instead of the gooners. Although he's 32 if the gooners think he's got the legs for three years who are we to doubt it.

1.) 10 Aug 2020 10:16:37
More chance of platting snot I think SV.

2.) 10 Aug 2020 13:35:05
Daz maybe but remember miracles are easy the impossible takes a little bit longer.

3.) 10 Aug 2020 17:00:20
Why would he join us when Arsenal can offer him European football.

4.) 10 Aug 2020 17:17:01
SV mate, my opinion is yes if it were possible, why not, he is a very good player.

5.) 10 Aug 2020 16:53:39
As he’s doing his arsenal medical today, some how doubt that will happen.

30 Jul 2020 13:37:29
Looks like deano won't get to choose his own signings then.

1.) 30 Jul 2020 14:45:29
Having a sporting director doesn’t mean the manager doesn’t pick his own players. That was just the set up under Suso. Things are changing, read the owners note in the latest announcement, doesn’t take a genius to work out they aren’t happy.

2.) 30 Jul 2020 18:40:50
why appoint a sporting director then. Its the way clubs go nowadays so nothing will change. Dean will ask for a striker and the sd will source one.

3.) 30 Jul 2020 19:19:34
That looks about the size of it SV, I think we need to hold up and see what happens.
I don`t suppose we will ever know the true course of events concerning the recruitment of players mate.

4.) 30 Jul 2020 20:47:25
Depends what roles he is given, sporting directors will always be the one negotiating for players, doesn’t always mean they are the ones picking them. Watch the Manchester City documentary on amazon, really good and shows how they have a meeting with Pep at the start of the season with some coaches and the sporting director, first they pick the positions they need to improve, then they identify 2 or 3 in each position Pep would be happy with, from there the sporting director contacts relevant parties to get the ball rolling.

A manager is rarely going to ring another club, player or agent to initiate a transfer, especially not at Premier League level. At the same time the Sporting Directors doesn’t necessarily involve choosing players, in most cases it doesn’t.

5.) 30 Jul 2020 21:06:02
The bigger role for the sporting director generally is the background stuff we never see.
Ensuring all the youth groups work and play in the same way as the first team, reviewing technology and equipment to improve the facilities, organising the scouts efficiently.
This is where the owners have thanked Suso as we have apparently made significant headway in those areas. They obviously feel the new guy can have better input at finding better potential for cheaper than the prices we paid.
We need to improve the first team in certain areas but every club worth their salt wants to find young options who can grow into the team.

Dave, what I like about Watkins is that he is a six yard box man. gets the scrappy goals which count. So I say let's give him the support and hope he fires on all cylinders.

Not really seen a lot of watkins if i'm honest. Looks quite decent in what I have seen but I just get a bit jittery when we sign the in form championship strikers ( Mcfatface, Hogan) if you get my drift. I would rather we went out and splashed the cash to get Tammy in.

I think it is all bluff and double bluff. I think they know who they are after and are spending their time getting them in. The bit that I would rather know is what's going on behind the scenes the other way. Are people like Mings, Mcginn etc being tapped up, who knows. Like Daz says it doesn't close till october and although we would like to see the new players bedded in with a pre season, that ain't going to happen this year as there is no pre season really.
PS Villadave I love my socks and pants at christmas.
