Just a quick point fellas, why can't you get it we'll always be vulnerable at the back because of deano's blinkered vision of target being his favoured option because of his getting forward, he's pants defensively with the concentration abilities of a goldfish, when he plays we always look disjointed, this won't change until he gets injured or is left out, so your wasting your time talking about any other players coming in, and again, can anyone tell me how a team that cost less than a tenth of ours outwitted deano's?

Graeme Potter saw how naive we are going forward in numbers and a simple ball over the top stuffed us! imagine what he could do with real money? and how come we don't seem to have credible plan b? -on the very bright side we have a game in hand which could take us to joint second, so happy days, but against teams like Brighton we should be 3 points better off, so forward with belief yes, but as for our tactical awareness, c minus-should do better.

Maybe they should give you the job, a modern genius.

08 Sep 2020 08:09:29
G-day boys and girls, hope all is well, thanks for the comments (and sledging ), so now it looks like brewster and king are becoming our prime targets, worth the punt?, have to say yep, and having the squad dynamic more towards the young end is obviously the go, but I still think we need a seasoned, irritating, awkward striker with the smarts to buy us time, free kicks and the odd penalty or 2!, everyone will have their own idea but me I'd like to see ashley barnes wearing the colours, also maybe we're not spending as much as we could now so we have a bigger war chest for January?,

if true I'm not sure whether that shows us being prudent or a bit nervous of how we'll get on! -and on a side note, how you keeping Allyp, hope them blue lights in your rear view mirror still keep your dukes of hazard driving abilities in top working order guvnor! -and as for meeting up to get some tucker, only the awarding missing burger van will do!

Classof82

1.) 08 Sep 2020 08:21:41
I don't think Ashley Barnes is the signing we need. I personally think he fits a very specific role in a very specific tactic at Burnley and we would not be able to offer him the same role and tactic.

2.) 08 Sep 2020 10:51:15
Fair comment lewisd21,but I'd still give him a go if we got him cheap enough-the crazy fool that I am! -who would you go for captain?

3.) 08 Sep 2020 13:33:08
I was excited about the idea of Wilson but that's now off the cards. King is a good player and maybe he will start scoring? I know he hasn't got the greatest goalscoring record at the moment though.

4.) 08 Sep 2020 14:01:26
I still don’t see how king is better than Wesley his scoring record is no better, and he’s not at the age where there’s scope for improvement.

05 Sep 2020 08:33:56
So, we have released a young Dutch forward called odutayo who's 19 and can play on the wings as well, apparently did well at 19 and 23 level and was well regarded? -but now we have released him and he's on trial at Sheffield Wednesday, but my mate told me that Brucey likes the look of him and will maybe make a move for him,

now maybe there are reasons behind the scenes we don't know about, but a ratio of 1 in 5 goals a games isn't too shabby for me, and the fact Brucey is circling tells me he must have something about him, so what's the point of the youth academy if you release them, how come deano isn't giving youth a chance,

and the answer is he has no interest in doing so, the academy has never really been paramount to us so what's the point, yeah sure we've recruited big again to 'make'it work but like some on here have said before, it never pulls it's wait and all we do is loan them out, maybe it'll change under new 'management' but if you listen to what some ex-youth team players say,

the most you can hope for is the pinnacle of the reserves, hardly inspiring, I just think we're missing a trick here and more to the point, not inspiring our next generation to be all they can be because they've no chance of progression, seems a bit dim, but there you go.

Classof82

1.) 05 Sep 2020 09:13:17
So after signing some of top talent in Europe and everyone very happy with where the youth academy is going and the effort being put into it, you are not happy on the basis that we have let go of someone whom up until today you and 99% of Villa fans have never heard of, with a record a lot worse than players such as Murphy, who has failed to make it. And to bring it all together, your backing this up with the opinion of a man who refused to play any youth players in his time at Villa, and proceeded to sign Hogan, Bree, Samba, Lansbury . the list goes on. Real talent spotter there.

If you want to be angry about something, or find your weekly topic to moan about, at least pick something with some substance.

2.) 05 Sep 2020 11:10:26
Odutayo only had a good record at U18. His form plummeted for the 23s which is why he was let go. If he couldn't step up to that level then he was never likely to make the first team at Prem level.

3.) 05 Sep 2020 12:29:48
I think the academy is moving on to better things to be honest mate that's why he's been let go.

4.) 05 Sep 2020 19:50:50
I do hope 2 or 3 of the younger lads do work their way through fairly soon. It can only be healthy for the club.

Vassilev aside, Kesler, Ramsey (Snr! ) and Barry appear to be particularly well thought of, whilst the new boy, Chrisene, is very highly regarded. Then there’s Chuckwuemeka, Philogene-Bidace, Bridge, Ramsey Jnr. There must be a good two to two and half dozen, all carrying good to high expectations with the coaching staff.

I agree with Chris and Naturalvillan, the youth set up appears to have certainly risen a few notes following a fairly heavy clear out and fresh recruitment run.

5.) 05 Sep 2020 21:14:45
I hope your all right about the academy, but odutayo apparently was turning out to be more of a number 10 but because we have other options he lost out, the fact he's been courted straight away after release and the fact Bruce is circling for me tells a story, I hope he does well and I just hope the academy earns it's keep now, and on a side note, callum Wilson is another Darren Anderton, let the bar codes have him.

Any of you heard we might be looking at Solanke? don't know whether it's true.

Classof82

1.) 01 Sep 2020 09:16:50
I sincerely hope not.

2.) 01 Sep 2020 16:11:52
In bound at the villa.

3.) 01 Sep 2020 19:28:20
Solanke has really struggled at Bournemouth and quickly became a bench warmer. Not one for us, at least not at this point in his career.

4.) 01 Sep 2020 22:44:23
Haven’t seen anything re: Solanke, but does seem there’s some substance to the links with Callum Wilson. If the price was right for him, and we get Benrahma and Watkins (🤞🏼), then that’s a good all round upgrade for our forward line.

29 Aug 2020 10:41:04
Does anyone know if deano is on holidays?, a mate who supports f'lam (that's Fulham to you and me who aren't posh! ) has been taking great joy in hinting they're willing to pay more than us with add-ons and salary, if we're not careful they'll nip in, deano needs to start schmoozing quickly and decide whether he goes for watkins or goes elsewhere, what are they doing, this lange fella needs to show some steel, get it over the line or move on, limbo is not what we need to be happening here.

Classof82

1.) 29 Aug 2020 13:14:47
Patience 82, judge the recruitment at the end of the transfer window, and keep your pistols in the drawer for now mate.

2.) 29 Aug 2020 13:03:15
If he is on hols then I am sure Purslow will be in touch with him.

3.) 29 Aug 2020 14:39:26
Do you really think it hasn’t already been decided?

4.) 30 Aug 2020 10:52:39
Nah he is right. We have been faffing around for a while and it looks like wolves might nip in to take Matty Cash off of us. We are too slow and we are paying the price.

I don't understand why we don't jist smash out 40 for edoard. The kids class.

If reports are true and we really do have 100 mill to spend we should ne closing deals earlier at what cluns are asking and be done with the deal quickly. Pinching the pennies costs more in the long run when you get into auction backing and forwarding and even more costly when we don't end up with a striker.

Why not make a bid for Danny ings, no fee and big wages, sign now and wait till summer, no fee which will pay for bigger wages, surely?

Classof82

1.) 19 Jan 2021 19:08:26
18 months left on his deal, number 9 for his boyhood club, scoring for fun, 9th in the table. I think what’s stopping us bidding is not wanting to embarrass ourselves.

08 Jan 2021 15:56:02
So, any of you fellas think we need another striker?, I'm a fan of Andrew ayew, but if we are looking at a younger exponent, I've been impressed with mickel Foss at (YOU GUESSED IT! ) -Brentford! -he's young, fast and has a great eye for a goal, I hear his contract is running down and I think he'd be an asset for sure, I hear some of the top 5 are also starting to sniff around, any of you heard about this rumour?

Classof82

1.) 08 Jan 2021 18:06:54
Do you mean Marcus Forss? If so this would be a very good signing based on what I've heard. I've only seen clips myslef but I know someone who works with AFC Wimbledon and spoke very highly of him. would much rather sign up and coming young pro's with high potential than someone like Ayew. That said, I can see the benefits of getting a senior pro in on a short term deal if the opportunity arises to see us through to the summer.
Where did you hear this rumour?

2.) 08 Jan 2021 18:58:10
Hi 82, have you been away mate, we have been discussing new strikers and players since Christmas. 😁.

30 Dec 2020 15:41:39
rknewell - just thought I'd get back and say cheers on the info on Andre ayew, I never knew he was in 80 grand a week plus! still, if we could get Swansea to pay 50 grand a week and us the rest I still think it might be worth a punt, but maybe deans will pull a rabbit out the hat and surprise us all!

Classof82

1.) 30 Dec 2020 17:10:30
Why would Swansea be willing to contribute wages for another team to pinch their best player?

2.) 30 Dec 2020 20:03:20
Maybe because financially their hurting because of C.V., give them Davis on loan and get the deal done, we need a seasoned striker up front.

3.) 30 Dec 2020 20:11:15
Maybe a good compromise would be Davis on loans to Swansea, Ayew to us?

UTV.

4.) 30 Dec 2020 22:03:49
That maybe is a bit too much pie in the sky C82. Good shout though Ally.

29 Dec 2020 13:29:51
Good result against chelski, all the chaps played above and beyond, and again I say thank you to our best signing of the summer, Craig Shakespeare, he's the difference that's made the massive difference, with January coming I'd like us to sign a seasoned striker to help Ollie, and for that I'd go for Ashley Barnes or Andre Ayew, and for anyone who thinks Ayew is past it, yes he can't sprint the whole game anymore but he's now more clinical and knows when to go full pelt and when it's not worth it, his hold up play is tops and he's more a team player now, look at Swansea last season, Brewster from the Scouse was scoring for fun, that was in no small part due to Ayew shouldering the donkey work, ask yourself what Brewster has done at Sheffield United, zilch-take a look at Swansea now, they brought in Jamal Rowe from Wigan and he couldn't score for toffee, fans on his back, Ayew comes back from injury, plays the role of making defenders run out of position and Rowe runs in between to score, and now his record is up there, Ayew is a big striker with a presence, strong in the air and all about the team now, I think Ollie could learn a lot from him, Brewster did, and so has Rowe, he wouldn't cost the earth and can play across the front line, for me, worth a punt, even Davis might learn the finer art of brain not brawn all the time!

Classof82

1.) 29 Dec 2020 17:31:04
Ayew's wages means he would cost the earth. By all accounts he's on 80-100k a week at Swansea, not the sort of money we need to be shelling out on a backup.

10 Nov 2020 19:52:15
Just a quick question, there's no underlying current behind it or hidden agenda, so, in regard to the greg Clarke fiasco, he used the term "coloured players"; and has resigned now for this, it is what it is, but just out of interest, what terminology should now be used?, Any info would appreciated, cheers.

Classof82

1.) 10 Nov 2020 21:57:17
82, for some reason it has again become part of our "shall we shan`t we" situation.
I have a Jamaican Brother in law, and he is miffed by it all mate.
Apparently Greg Clarke used to use the term players of colour, same two words used but a different way round.
When I was younger you would get slated for saying a coloured man, you should say Black man.
The world is going mad mate, and we have seen nothing yet.

2.) 10 Nov 2020 22:09:16
Black, although not sure how others feel about Minority Ethnic in BAME, seems rather disrespectful in its own right.
I'm sure persons of differing ethnic backgrounds would mostly prefer to be referred to as their name, or just people in general.

It all could have been avoided by just focusing the discussion against racist actions full stop. We know how the recipients feel, focus on discussing the solutions rather than going on about the features the pondscum are attacking.

3.) 10 Nov 2020 22:58:45
I am confused by this issue on how to properly address non caucasian members of planet earth. I think it is quite difficult remain on top of what people deem acceptable or not as the case may be, but surely it is about the context in which words are used not the words themselves that are the problem I fear that if the activists are not careful they may very well drive some people into the very behaviour we all want to see stopped.

{Ed001's Note - that is not why Clarke resigned at all. He has a whole series of racist gaffes on record, then he made a number more of comments that were insulting, dismissive and downright bigoted. Oh and he was the guy heavily involved in that project big picture and was already being pushed out of the door anyway.}

4.) 11 Nov 2020 02:42:30
Cheers for the replies fellas, I don't know what to think about this.

5.) 11 Nov 2020 14:26:12
Its is what it is 82, and I do agree with John, all of our family use the term black man or black people.
There is a similar problem when talking about disabled people, plump people.
What I do take offence to, is people picking me up about it, we cannot be afraid to talk in general, as long as it is not meant as an insult.
It never ends Ginger hair, short people, get a life I say.

6.) 11 Nov 2020 14:43:52
Ed, perfect summary and factual. Whilst coloured is obviously not pc, many old school don't see it as racist, my nans first marriage was to a Jamaican guy, and she always used to refer to black people as coloured, she was the least racist person ever put on the planet.

7.) 11 Nov 2020 17:17:03
I didn't realise coloured was now a bad word. I can't keep up.

8.) 11 Nov 2020 17:55:01
And I hope that didn't seem ignorant. I genuinely didn't know that. I believe I use the term 'black' myself as others have said here also. I will happily call people whatever they would like me to, but sometimes it's easy to offend people accidentally, in all sorts of subjects that also aren't race. Some people still use the word 'handicapped' to describe disabilities which can infuriate some people (I only realised this due to a family member who uses a wheelchair), but I can also understand if someone doesn't yet realise that that word is now considered unacceptable. We need a spreadsheet.

9.) 11 Nov 2020 18:36:07
A personal true note to how difficult this situation has become.
my son was accused of making a racist comment at work when he referred to a lady as an Indian lady. She came from India.
The lady didn't complain, a third party complained.

He was made to attend a tribunal where it was agreed the comment was racist.
He lost a months money and his role was gradually eroded till he was nothing more than a "tea boy."

This had an effect on his health and finally he had a breakdown and has been unable to work as he has an anxiately complex.
After the tribunal he asked how he should refer to a man from America and no one could provide an answer.
That is how difficult the situation has become.

10.) 11 Nov 2020 18:38:54
Dave I might be going out on a limb but personally I don’t think coloured is a bad word, not too long ago this term was I believe acceptable, as I said in an earlier post it’s all about the context in which the word is used which should be the determinant as to whether or not it was intended as a racist slur. If the term black is deemed racist when referring to the colour of someone’s skin shouldn’t the use of the word white be equally deemed racist and as. society is this what it’s all about?

11.) 11 Nov 2020 18:53:49
That's mad theoldvillan. We should just all never speak ever again, it's safer.

Davedean82-in the past I have disagreed with you on a few issues, but on this I'm 1000% with you fella, what makes it worse is that because her voice was quite high-pitched to begin with, when she tried to injected excitement into her commentary over a missed shot it sounded like a shrill! -and another thing, typical BBC getting female ex-footballers now on MOTD2-I sat and listened to whoever it was, and guess what, nothing new brought to the party when giving her 'analysis'-so what's the point, never heard of her, and I hope she doesn't appear on there again, let's be honest, unless you are related to someone playing, or are mates with someone playing or your going out with someone who plays, no-one gives a flying monkey's chuff about women's football, it's dross, HOWEVER, may I add that there are female commentators who deserve (that much over used expression) respect, Gabby Rosalind for example, great at her job and top panelist all round, but let the others jog on, off to something as vacuumistic as they are, go present the 'one show' (sh#te) on the BBC, and and take Jermaine Jenas with you, who seems to be turning into another, smug little Gary Lineker, if I've offended anyone who is involved in women's football, your welcome!

If we're offered north of 100 million (miracles can happen) then the time has come to sell greenish while we can, remember he's still good mates with the poison dwarf, I think that says it all, there's something about his character that he's drawn to that type of lifestyle, so for the good of the club, he has to go, if we're honest we all expect him to leave in the summer anyways, so if we can sell in January and keep him till the summer, that for me would the ideal situation, then deano can go and buy his dreamboat rashica!

Villadave-hope your keeping well; as for Watkins, as you rightly say everything has gone through him and he is adjusting very well, but sometimes a player needs protecting and with Ollie I feel he needs a game or 2 as a sub so he is rested, his contribution and work ethic have been great, I just don't want him to get an injury and for us to be left stuffed up front, and as a side note, surely it's a good idea to see how we get on for those occasions when Watkins isn't playing for whatever reason?
