With interest from MCFC, Liverpool, MUFC and Arsenal in Jack according to the media, do you think that our interest in Rashica should be stepped up?
His form so far this season has been pretty average by his standards.
Which alternatives are there out in the football world?
Dont think Messi would interested so who else might be willing to come to AV, of course if Jack goes?

Theoldvillan

1.) 27 Nov 2020 15:28:06
If Jack does go then I hope he goes to City as we could ask for John Sones as part of any deal with the remainder of the money I think we should tie up Ross Barkley on a permanent deal, in terms of a left sided midfielder I wouldn’t touch Rashica with a ten foot pole I would be more inclined to try for Zaha from Palace I know he doesn’t fit the age profile but I think he would be a good fit in terms of running at the opposition creating both chances and a goal threat. I would also look at a left back maybe Rico Henry or Ryan Sessegnon ( I know he is on loan but a good offer may persuade Spurs to let him go ) Inspite of all that though I would prefer it if Jack were to stay.

2.) 28 Nov 2020 00:08:46
Zaha’s attitude in every game I’ve seen him over the last two years has absolutely stank. He just wants to fight everyone, acts as though any foul on him is an attempt on his life. Tried to drag Konsa to the floor last season and then when he couldn’t tried to fight him as if Konsa had done something?

Don’t ask me why because I haven’t a clue but I saw Zaha play for palace against Southampton years ago. The year Southampton got promoted, it was at Selhurst Park, Ricky Lambert scored.

And I’ve always remembered right infront of where we were sitting, someone played a pass to zaha, which was probably two foot infront of him, because it wasn’t to feet which is how he wanted it, he literally let it go out for a Southampton throw in, to make a point. From there I’ve always thought he was a bit of an idiot to put it nicely, but the last few years he’s took it to a new level.

Traore confirmed this morning.
Reported on ski.

1.) 19 Sep 2020 08:55:15
Must of read my post yesterday and decided to pull their finger out 😁 also apparently Origi available for £14m certainly worth a punt? Can play centrally or wide and would improve our forward options.

2.) 19 Sep 2020 12:27:21
Good shout Moose, a bargain at that price.

3.) 19 Sep 2020 13:26:03
For 14 million I’d b all over that moose.

4.) 19 Sep 2020 13:37:10
Apparently the BBC are saying Traore is our last bit of business this window unless a “unexpected opportunity” presents itself.

5.) 19 Sep 2020 16:51:57
Utter hogwash, how do they know what our transfer business entails?

6.) 19 Sep 2020 18:57:12
I hope it’s hogwash too Moose, but we seem prepared to accept the rumours they print on the players we are looking to sign quick enough!

7.) 19 Sep 2020 19:42:40
All paper BS, but we follow it anyway in our quest for all things Villa- me included! But we always keep our cards close to our chests, did anyone know anything about the Traore link til it was common knowledge?
We're a bloody impatient bunch 😁.

14 Jan 2020 08:44:37
Glenn Murray for £500000.
He knows where the goal is and use's his brain.
Probably better than any of our strikers, even when they were fit.
Deano lost in jungle of rumoured players, players available, players willing to come to VP.
Are we still being threatened by FFP?
If not why don't the owners do what Man City did and spend the money to get us where they want us to be, top 6 and Euro football.
OR are they waiting to dump Deano to get an international manager before they spend big?

Theoldvillan

07 Jan 2020 15:33:02
Drinkwater on loan.
This means that we cannot get Batman or Giroud on loan as we have the one from Chelsea we are allowed.
Glenn Murray from Brighton would be a good buy for little money. Scores for fun but only in the champs. Will he work in the prem?
Why are we looking at a guy who has scored 2 goals this season?
We need a goal machine now!
Options will expire if we don't action now.
C'mon Deano, show me your intent!

Theoldvillan

{Ed002's Note - There was never any chance of Giroud or Batshuayi moving to Aston Villa on loan - Giroud will be leaving but only has six months left on his contract.}

1.) 07 Jan 2020 19:26:50
We can still sign them permently thou.

19 Dec 2019 16:50:52
Read a report in a daily this week that stated that we are favourites to sign a 28year old from Vienna.
Hes been scoring regularly and assisting as well. Price about 4.5m euros.
Also looking for a goal getter.
Brighton bought Maupay and now Glenn Murray sits on the bench. He was BHA regular no 9 till Maupay arrived.
Could be an opportunity to pick up an old fashioned 9 but we would have to supply him with the ball infront of goal, not on the wing.

Theoldvillan

1.) 19 Dec 2019 20:26:02
Where you been oldvillan, have missed talking about ass kickers haha.

2.) 22 Dec 2019 16:38:08
Hello Dave, still believe in them especially after yesterday.
Where is the boss man at the back?
Find it all very depressing.
Our manager is failing all over the pitch.
He could have got the players he bought in for the price of drinks down the local.
Many of the players that were told to go could have still been with us when you compare what we have.
Abraham is what we need but alas .

Hi Guys,
Is the game against MCFC still on for Wednesday? .
Reading that we have been trying to postpone as we are not yet clear of the C.V.
Some of the team still need to isolate.

Theoldvillan

1.) 17 Jan 2021 22:20:50
Hi Oldvillan, not sure mate, its still shown on the Flashscore site, but an be taken down at any time.

2.) 17 Jan 2021 22:56:12
From what I read the team are out of isolation as of today, and Villa want the game on Wednesday to go ahead.

3.) 18 Jan 2021 09:19:35
Although I’d love to beat them I think the most important thing is not to burn ourselves out in our first game back with very little training under our belts, then of coarse make sure we punish Bruce at the weekend,

4.) 18 Jan 2021 10:00:38
Before the hate brigade attack me I am looking realistically at the Man City game.
Are we really in with a chance of a win, poss a draw?
City have found their game and are on fire while we have health issues to cope with.
If we can "escape" with a point I think that will be an outstanding result.
But whatever, another game on BT sport and the next 2 games on BT sport.
We are all being ripped off with all the suppliers squabbling over games.
How many of our games have been on Sky? This is the supplier that most subscribe too and where we got most games shown.
BT sport offering a £25 a month rolling contract (£300 a year) .
What a f. g disgrace!

5.) 18 Jan 2021 18:30:06
My dodgey box has all the sports channels for 10 euro a month it’s great you just need decent internet. A point would be a great result OV and a win at the weekend, I’d take a low score loss against city tbh but I will be shouting at the tv for the win nonetheless 💪💪.

6.) 18 Jan 2021 19:11:09
Old villain try potato stream I use that all the time you get about 10 links choose the right 1 no buffering I watch all boxing on it too and stream it to the tele.

10 Jan 2021 14:01:09
How about a quick poll?
I keep hearing on Tv and radio that Leeds are everybodies second favourite team.
Personally they rate about last in line for me, narrowly below Sheffield Utd.
How do you vote?

Theoldvillan

1.) 10 Jan 2021 14:15:45
Walsall for me TOV, always check their results.

2.) 10 Jan 2021 14:45:44
Hi Oldvillan, it certainly ain`t Leeds, you must have a doggy TV mate, it certainly isn`t a smart TV. 😂😂
If push comes to shove, I would go Liverpool because family ties.

3.) 10 Jan 2021 15:08:39
For me it’s Celtic.

4.) 10 Jan 2021 15:36:51
Allez Angers SCO 😁.

5.) 10 Jan 2021 15:39:51
Pompey for me, family ties.

6.) 10 Jan 2021 15:55:25
Hereford. Family.

7.) 10 Jan 2021 16:19:12
Spurs

As hoddle was my favourite player growing up.

8.) 10 Jan 2021 17:48:53
York City, but Walsall was the last league game I attended. Ended up celebrating with the players after a last minute worldie. Strange day.

9.) 10 Jan 2021 17:55:24
Chelsea mine is born there kensington.

10.) 10 Jan 2021 18:18:30
Wolves for me because of the black country and friends.

11.) 10 Jan 2021 20:33:36
Celtic is my second team, outside of that I like Real Madrid simply because they have had a lot of my favourite players over the years.

12.) 10 Jan 2021 23:18:07
Brighton for me as was a youth player there.

13.) 11 Jan 2021 13:19:48
Seeing as I asked the question I had better reply.
My answer is AVFC.
I have no interest in any other team.
110% Villan.

14.) 11 Jan 2021 13:27:15
You're such a scalliwag TOV 😂😂😂.

09 Jan 2021 12:02:25
Hail King Louis.
Louis Barry is a key to our future along with several of this group of boys.
Everybody including the pro pundits have raved at the overall performance of the entire team.
Our goal was scored the way we scored 7 when it was man against man. Quick ball through the defenders and a pure finish.
Not sure what Klippity Klopp said after the game but he should have shook the hands of the entire team and congratulated them taking on a 80% prem. team.
There was no shame in this loss everything was a positive.
Hope Smith watched carefully and came away like all of us with big smiles and belief in what we saw.
In 1957 the Man utd team were called the Busby Babes and there average age was about 21. We must of raided the nursery to get these lads!
Well done Young Villans.

Theoldvillan

1.) 09 Jan 2021 13:28:05
Well we can call them Deanos Diamonds now.

2.) 09 Jan 2021 16:12:50
How about Demons?

3.) 09 Jan 2021 17:28:33
How did your jab go Oldvillan, painless I hope, did the wife have one as well mate.

4.) 09 Jan 2021 17:33:23
Or Dazzlers, Daz 😁.

5.) 09 Jan 2021 19:58:12
Hi Dave, ta for asking.
Short queue followed by a few questions about present and past health etc.
Directions about poss after effects. Lots of do and donts.
I must stick to mask, distance etc
Then a sharp scratch and a 15 min wait to ensure no after effects and then home. Only 2 mins to home so all done.
I will get a second jab in 10 weeks to complete the dose.
Unfortunately my wife is a bit younger than me, she has to wait her turn.
Hopefully all the guys on here can get a jab soon.
Please all do as requested stay home. Only go out for essential needs. You know it makes sense. If in doubt the answer is NO!
Our little town is still full of visitors from afar.
Have they got any sense? GRRR.

6.) 09 Jan 2021 21:40:04
Glad it all went well for you mate, unfortunately us humans are creatures of habit, and to stop doing what we have all done for years and years, does not come easy.
The classic is wet paint "DO NOT TOUCH", so what do we do 😂😂.

7.) 10 Jan 2021 13:25:10
Dave, I don't touch. I don't drive the wrong way up a one way street.
Break the habit, it does make sense.
If we want to get back to wandering about without a care, going to VP on a Saturday or whatever day, cuddling your grandchildren or even the girl next door then follow the directions.
I haven't had a cuddle of my little granddaughter, age 7, since we first heard about the C.V.
It is important for families to ensure they all behave. I have had words with my son about his occasional sortie into the outside world. He has listened.

8.) 10 Jan 2021 14:06:31
Hello oldvillan, nice to hear of your vax experience.
I still have to wait awhile for my jab as I am 71 in Feb and in group 4. Like you my wife is younger and in group 5.
I too have noticed a lot more people ignoring the rules this time round though we are only venturing out to do our weekly shopping and a short isolated walk each day.

05 Jan 2021 15:52:01
Friday night is close but let's not get too excited, yet.
Yes 'pool are on a bad run at the moment and look ready for beating.
However a wounded animal can be more dangerous than a fit one. They are looking at playing Henderson at C/ H and this could leave gaps in the middle of the pitch
We disposed of them in style with Klopps comment of "Wow" earlier this season.
This time they will be aware of our ammunition and will try to ensure we fire blanks.
If we keep tight at the back and show adventure with some long balls the result could be the same, perhaps not the score.
The question is "do we leave Mings on the bench? " Konsa and Hause look solid.
Pool play with Salah on their right and Robertson down the left, both with pace.
What about Konsa on the right, Hause in the middle and Mings on the left.
Play them as the old fashioned right back, centre half and left back.
Cash just if front on the right and Targett on the left. This would give 5 when needed at the back. Douglas Luiz in the middle as he is at present with McGinn.
Trez or El Ghazzi front right, Jack on the left and Watkins in the middle. With Henderson at C/ H Watkins will keep him very busy not allowing him to venture forward.
We have to ensure that we cover the pace of Pool down the wings while we are pushing forward.
Lets make it happen. Beat the cup favourites then onwards towards Wembley.

Theoldvillan

1.) 05 Jan 2021 16:15:46
I say we should rest Watkins, Grealish and Martinez. See how good our squad really is.

2.) 05 Jan 2021 17:04:11
I'd play our youth players, with a mix of 1st team players who rnt playing, that way then momentum won't be lost, we're not going too win cup anyway.

3.) 05 Jan 2021 17:04:21
With the congested fixture list for January, there must be a real risk of certain players burning themselves out.
For me, and I appreciate some will not agree, the league games should take priority. Ultimately our progress for this season will be assessed on where we finish in the table, and progressing to the last 8 or even last 4, will not be remembered by many supporters or onlookers.
In terms of strength in depth, our squad is lacking compared to the league’s top performers, who are more able to rotate their players without compromising performance for cup matches and subsequent league matches. Hopefully over the next few seasons our squad quality deficit will be addressed and we will be better equipped to go full tilt for cup competitions as well as the league.
With that in mind then, I would be looking to rest the likes of Jack, MgGinn, Watkins and Luiz for the Liverpool game, and replacing them with Ramsey, Hourihane, Davis and Nakamba respectively.

4.) 05 Jan 2021 17:05:28
Personally I would play all of the second string, and have 9 of the first team on the bench.
Lets find out how good we really are, if we are struggling we can bring on 5, and let's see how it goes.
Nothing to lose guys, and it would give our back up players some much needed minutes.

Team:
Heaton
Guilbert
Hause
Engels
Taylor
Nakamba
Hourihane
Barkley
Trez / Traore
Ramsey
Davis

Bench:
Martinez
Cash
Watkins
Grealish
Mings
Targett
Luiz
El Ghazi
McGinn.

5.) 05 Jan 2021 17:56:25
We aren’t going to win the premier league and we aren’t going to get relegated so our best chance of success and to potentially attract better quality players is to qualify for European competition by winning the cup. I would therefore play my strongest side if we end up having to utilise the squad in some of the other premier league games so be it. We have a real chance of doing something in this competition so let’s go for it.

6.) 05 Jan 2021 18:20:21
Can see both sides of this for the cup fixture. I suppose a lot depends on what side klopp puts out, will he go strong- which may see Henderson and Fabinho at centre half again or change it round with the kids? The fact that 5 subs plus an additional one if it goes to extra time really throws things up in the air.
If players are sufficiently rested and wanting to play I'd be inclined to stick with close to our strongest XI, then depending on how the game is going, make full use of the subs earlier than our usual 65-70 minute mark. We then have 5 days before the Spurs game to recover. Beating liverpool could prove to be a further confidence booster after being robbed against Utd.
I'd also like to see a couple out of Bidace, Barry and Kesler on the bench, if only for the experience, who knows if we have another 5 goal cushion they may even get some minutes 😁.

7.) 05 Jan 2021 18:53:40
I’d go same team as you Dave, no need to injure the first team.

8.) 05 Jan 2021 19:05:35
Yeah chris, I think it would probably suit all concerned to be fair.
I think we would still have a really good chance of winning the game as well.

9.) 05 Jan 2021 19:41:51
Does anybody know if yellow/ red cards given in cup matches count towards the cumulative total already received in league games, or if they’re treated separately.

{Ed002's Note - Not any longer, it changed a couple of years ago so they only apply to the competition they were given in. So if Grealish gets a yellow card for diving in the FA Cup it does not matter for the Premier League.}

10.) 05 Jan 2021 19:49:51
That`s good news Mark, I was not sure on that one, thanks Ed.

11.) 05 Jan 2021 20:32:20
If he does get a yellow card for diving it will be his first, informed journalism at its best.

12.) 05 Jan 2021 19:54:12
Ok thanks Ed, very amusing 😂
Does the same rule apply for red cards?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, if Grealish gets two yellows for diving resulting in a red then it does not impact the PL.}

13.) 05 Jan 2021 20:54:29
I bet Salah will be relieved as well 😉😁.

{Ed001's Note - Ed002 isn't a Liverpool fan, he favours Chelsea.}

14.) 05 Jan 2021 20:55:51
I sense some bitterness from the last time we mauled Liverpool lol. I guess jack might dive but at least he doesn’t bite😂😂.

{Ed001's Note - why would that bother Ed002? He is not a Liverpool fan.}

15.) 05 Jan 2021 20:59:46
Whatever happens on Friday the history books will forever say that we beat Liverpool by 5 goals twice in 2 seasons!

16.) 05 Jan 2021 20:57:26
Will he have Mark's out of 10 on them cards to Ed?

02 Jan 2021 13:24:11
Hause must be pi. ed off with Mings walking straight back into the team.
Said before that I like Mings but he needs to be part of a three.
We are weak at the back with so many errors leading to giving goals away. I know our goals against looks impressive but some silly balls have ended up in our net. Yesterday!
A defenders primary job is to get the ball away, secondly to try to get it to the defensive midfield then attacking midfield and then forwards.
C/ b must bully strikers.
Love the piece by Hasslebank who reckons he would score loads of goals because he could bully them into mistakes saying they don't like to defend.
C/ b must bully strikers.
Own the ball, clear the ball. don't fiddle and fart in your box, clear the ball.
Dont ask me who we could buy but we must get a solid no nonsense leader if we are to maintain our charge.
Avoided my usual phrase of "arse kicker" but a player of that ilk is imperative.

WE have £24m from the monies stated for getting players into the squad.
Benrahma could be an option at a fare price if Franks would accept £24m.
Generally fees are ridiculous so one last push may secure a player that is/ was coveted by Deano and many on this site.
He is imaginative, quick and scores. What more do we want?
Watkin was a chance that proved right.
Surely worth a dip into the coffers.

I live in the south and this story has a lot going for it locally.
Another story is that the deal is almost done that if we don't get promoted then Jack will be in white next year.
I have told my Spuds mates that he is too good for them.
They tell me that he's not worth £20m.

Many Spuds fans have car reg N17. see if you spot one.

{Ed001's Note - Pochettino would love to sign Grealish. The only thing that has stopped it happening is that Levy would never agree the asking price or payment terms.}

Win at the cow shed and we go above BCFC.
Forest and Hull play each other so again a win at the cow shed and we can be in 8th.
GD better than Derby who play Wigan and Wednesday and the way they are going they could lose both so we could go 7th.
Lets believe
Our talisman is back, and did we see a more advanced roll for Hourihane?
Mathematically we are ok, we can make it. Every season we have a dip in form and then we rally.
This season is no different.
WE CAN DO IT, BELIEVE! I DO.

Daz, always believed a back 3 being the best way to go with the likes of Cash or Targett falling back when needed to make a 4 or 5.
Currently we can only get a 4 when under pressure.
Chelsea exploited Cashes adventurous side by playing 90% down their left leaving us with 3 max.
3 solid at the back. Love it>.
