How long now b4 the season end French league just ended, what are the fa thinking apart from being greedy idiots, no1 knows how long this is going to take and players playing behind closed doors isn't really a good idea with players sweating and spitting on pitch they could still catch virus.

{Ed002's Note - It is not a matter for The FA to decide. The Premier League need to make a decision and right now there would like to get it completed but there remains a swell of clubs who want to draw a line across as there is no realistic end date in sight for the decision. It is due to be discussed again on Friday.}

1.) 28 Apr 2020 16:53:55
It's all about the money and with no product how can they line their pockets?

05 Mar 2020 23:39:06
I see another one of our youngsters is being head hunted by man City and sum of Europe's top clubs want him, we must be doing something right at youth level because a lot clubs want our youngsters, it makes you think why can't they get into our 1st team squad it's a joke there's nothing better seeing a youngster break into our team or squad plus it could save us millions, what is the point in having youth teams academys if we're not going to use them we might aswell scrap them it's a joke youth is the way forward.

1.) 06 Mar 2020 16:03:41
Yeah, its been in circulation for a week now 4eva.
I think come the seasons end, there will be a lot of our youngsters having their contracts looked at and renewed.
I hope so anyway.

2.) 07 Mar 2020 00:29:23
4eva You are talking about 16 year olds .

3.) 07 Mar 2020 07:25:52
Age is a number doesn't matter how old or young it's if your good enough d82.

4.) 08 Mar 2020 20:06:25
How many of our youngsters over the last 10-15 years have gone on to play at the top level for anybody?

Clarke and Cahill are the only ones and both played in our first team.
The rest are all stuck in the championship or below (Robinson got the closest when Sheff Utd bought him but obviously didn't make the grade for them).

The youngsters who have been picked off by Arsenal, City and Liverpool previously are never heard of again so clearly not that great they'd make the step up.
The coaches obviously feel there is just too much missing from their individual games (look at Green, we all thought he could be great but just hasn't really developed) .

Maybe they also take into account our fans who will turn on the immediately when they have a bad game because we just don't have the personnel to carry them for a game or 2.

At the end of the day, if you're good enough, you're old enough only works if you are the first bit. What we have in the squad isn't great but any coach would make the move if a kid was genuinely better than the current options.

5.) 08 Mar 2020 21:53:37
Just realised I missed Albrighton out. That's a grand total of 3, all from before our fall from grace, Jack is the only one since then to make the grade.
Top youth sides take high levels of investment to produce 1 or 2 players capable of the step up. Chelsea and City's U23's cost more than some Championship teams.

6.) 09 Mar 2020 10:36:08
Admittedly Stevens came to Villa when he was 22 but he’s an example of a young player that wasn’t given adequate opportunities.

{Ed001's Note - he is certainly proving to be a big miss with Sheff Utd. He has been outstanding since signing for them. Good, technical player too, surprisingly good on the ball.}

7.) 09 Mar 2020 11:39:02
It would appear that the Villa owners intend investing heavily in the Academy which imho is the way forward. We can’t keep buying players, who are often well over priced and more often than not don’t come up to expectations. It’s simply unsustainable to continue like that.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that any investment in youth academy affairs is not considered in ffp accountability. If that is the case it’ would be a very smart move to go down that route.

{Ed002's Note - You are correct, the FFP accounts exclude academy and infrastructure costs plus other items which typically amount to much less of a cost.}

8.) 09 Mar 2020 15:41:29
Entirely correct Mark. That's exactly what esteemed Mr Purslow said at the Supporter Trust meeting a couple of weeks ago. Monies from HS2 have been invested in the new Academy infrastructure; the Academy has been totally restructured and Mark Harrison (described as a 'brilliant hire') is in the process of transforming the whole academy management structure. This all presumably comes under the umbrella of the club's 5-6 year plan to bring us back to where the owners and CP (and us fans) want us to be on a permanent basis.

9.) 09 Mar 2020 18:20:57
As pointed out Stevens wasn't an Academy player.
During his time he had Warnock, Bertrand and Cissokho ahead of him who were better options.

When he got a run he didn't really take it and it took him 3 years in the lower leagues to build up to the player he is.
Some players just don't fit some clubs also. He has a lot less pressure on him at Sheff Utd. Lowton was ok for us but he's thriving at Burnley.
Lee Hendrie was the other way, consistent for us but couldn't get a sniff elsewhere.

10.) 09 Mar 2020 18:19:01
I’m optimistic that this policy will pay dividends MD, it may take a few years to kick in, hope I’m still alive to see us reap the rewards.

22 Feb 2020 06:38:46
Big game today biggest game of season in my view, would like to see 2 strikers play and Connor as well.

1.) 22 Feb 2020 13:16:37
Yep, massive game today Vila4Eva, my heart says us to win 2-1,my head says after looking at the stats we lose 3-1,I just hope deano has them all fired up and we don't do the usual and get tired top badly in the last 15 minutes, hopefully Baston will come out like a man possessed!

2.) 09 Mar 2020 09:26:58
You also forgot Edna Stevens, who is now Sheffield United’s regular left back and part of a team doing considerably better than us.

18 Feb 2020 08:37:58
Var is the worst thing in football. it's awfull and it's ruining our beautiful game.

1.) 21 Feb 2020 16:29:41
VAR is not the problem it’s the way it he
Being intrepputed in the Premier League all final
Decisions should be down to the Referee execpt offside which is basically your off or not and no u cannot rewrite it midway through a season that’s just ridiculous.

2.) 21 Feb 2020 16:32:19
Would u prefer if if the two referee is Mike up and u can hear the conversation bewteen the officials and he then explains his dissison to the crowd.

14 Feb 2020 22:28:07
Hi ed just herd man city's ffp punishment what does this mean for villa do you anything mate, now iam worried now.

{Ed002's Note - It is unrelated to aston Villa - an old issue based on stolen evident by whistleblower pinto and open to appeal. Aston Villa's problem is related to not living in their means (whay the earn) and the proposal to sell the stadium and rent it back.}

12 May 2020 15:37:29
Well there you have it the prem big wigs and fa have got there way by not caring enough to what's going in the world people don't even care about football now at this point, it's all about money and sponsors and it disgraceful in my view, I for one doesn't care what league villa are in it doesn't bother footballs the least of my problems, and to be honest iam going off football aswell, it's all about money and greed now, it's perfectic, when sport does start and its safe my main focus will be on rugby league, villa will always be in my blood but I've just lost passion for football now, il still read on here thou, so cheers for many of good hours on here every 1 stay safe 👍👍.

{Ed002's Note - I am actually not sure what you are referring to.}

1.) 12 May 2020 22:35:54
Tell you what Villa4eva you are right its about money but 1 I have had to go to work while its been at its peak getting on an off buses there getting tested before an after the game and its now past its peak. 2 yes its about money but if Villa go down and we get parsuite payment while all the other clubs get next to nothing will you moan about fairness an money then?

Footballs not fair but that's just the way it is. It started with blackburn years ago buying the prem then chelsea then city now newcastle if it makes money it makes sense football is about money if you are stupidly rich and need to hide some money buy a football club.

Truth is when doug Ellis owned it he was Villa through and through these owners the Fa they don't care owners want to hide money and FA want to sell a product. Ask yourself this people have we really missed football? The Newcastle owner killed his wife apparently the FA don't care they just see all the money he can bring in and make the premiership!

2.) 13 May 2020 05:08:22
Walkies I agree it is all about money, Iv always said, the two worst things in football, are Sky and agents.

But as usual, your thoughts on Villa and it’s owners, are very bitter . As you have told us time and again, you appear to have some sort of connection down there . You certainly appear to know, that these new owners, that as far as I know, have put millions into the club, are in it for the wrong reasons .

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but anybody prepared to put that kind of money in, aren't doing it out of charity, but because they can make money . As far as I’m concerned they can make all they want, because they need the Villa to succeed, for them to do it .

As you say Doug was Villa through and through, but also because the the Euro side wasn’t his, he destroyed a great side, when he should of been building on it . What he did, put us back years, with investment we could of been massive .
The owners now, who you don’t appear very enamoured with, pulled us out of hole, dug by Dr Tony . A hole that could of destroyed us, it just a shame, that it never happened earlier.

Now I’m not the only one to say this, but it’s very rare that you ever put a positive, post on about the club you reckon you love, The mind boggles.
Onwards & Upwards Villaforever.

3.) 13 May 2020 09:57:21
Newcastles owners and city even villa its away of cleaning money that's all. If you think they love the club your mad.

4.) 13 May 2020 16:51:12
WTW what on earth are you on? Having rich owners now don't mean squidly Jack you can only spend what your revenue allows you too we have been through all this before. You have no idea at all how football works and you certainly have no idea about the ins and outs of owners and their thoughts of buying clubs. To be honest and I think I speak for the majority on here you have nothing good to say at all about our club this will be the last time I comment on any of your posts as you really do boil my wee!

5.) 13 May 2020 18:01:55
Seriously, It’s definitely worth getting in touch Daz, you won’t regret it, I can assure you mate 👍.

6.) 13 May 2020 18:41:38
Cheers mate we meet up 4 a beer soon. UTV.

7.) 13 May 2020 19:55:35
Cheers Moose and Mark I will drop him a email.

06 May 2020 07:44:48
Sad to see dave go he's a top bloke who speaks his mind and I hope he comes back I enjoy reading his post and plus he always starts off good debates on here.

1.) 06 May 2020 10:18:08
I echo everybody's stance on Dave decision to leave the blog.
I find him to be very informative on everything about Aston villa.
Will be sadly missed but I think this blog is in his blood and I hope to hear from him later perhaps when the football returns to normal.
Stay safe Dave we are all in your camp and may you and your family stay safe and in good health.

2.) 06 May 2020 13:28:30
Lost some good ones, Flackie and Dave .

3.) 06 May 2020 13:47:26
Think we're probably all missing Dave already as its a bit quiet on here today plus nobody in the football world has said anything stupid so far today though the day is still young.

05 May 2020 15:56:28
Any guys on here play football manager 2020 I've been hammering during these tough times.

1.) 05 May 2020 17:09:32
Sad to say 4eva even at my age I do I am up to season 2035/ 6 and I have won everything with Villa it’s nice to fantasise when it’s not going to happen in real life. All my quality players seem to be coming from the Spanish and French leagues not many home grown players in my squad. Keep an eye open for Cristian Cerritos scores goals for fun wish we had him at B6 now 😀.

2.) 05 May 2020 19:50:37
That's sum going villa Jon I'm Kings Lynn took them to the prem and have won fa Cup and are in top 4 I'm in 2029.

3.) 05 May 2020 21:11:48
Was s##t hot at space invaders back in the day 😁 tried playing the football games but kept running in circles before kicking it out for a throw in 😂😂.

02 May 2020 08:07:56
Hope everyone is well and there family's are well too, 1st point Connor is a idiot why say that no1 is bigger than this historic football club as for jck I'm not bothered about him now he can go while we all have been abiding the rules he goes out its joke, I say sell him for 60mil 2nd point I still can't believe the people that constantly spout that they want the season too start the prem big wigs need too hold there heads in shame its a joke while people are loosing there life's and jobs there more bothered about pound signs football is not the same and is making me dislike our game players are just as bad aswell they really get on my nerves rant over now 😂😂😂 hope every1s fine dave, Mark, n moose keep up the good work, 1 last I hope your fine and well Bob hope your family is well mate.

1.) 02 May 2020 08:55:07
I'm keeping fine thanks 4eva maybe a bit of cabin fever lol
Reading that players such as Henderson Kane and Noble are in contact with players (figuratively) asking them their views on finishing the season and their apparent reluctance to do so. Very commendable as they're the ones putting themselves and families at further risk by the money men running the game. Until they've reached a decision keep stum, no more soundbites that just antagonize supporters, then when a decision is reached speak out as one voice that the powers that be will have to listen to.
Also a novel way to deal with the situation and fair to everyone is freeze this season. Everyone remains where they are and on the points they're on then begin a brand new season (when possible) and those points won would be added on until the season's natural conclusion. Essentially 1.5 seasons joined together. Also within fairness any team not on equal games at time of suspension ie Villa vs Sheff Utd fit it in during the season. Obviously European competition may have to come up with some way to solve their own agenda maybe no competition for a season while foreign travel is restricted due to the outbreak?
Just a thought this but everyone would know exactly where they stood at time of resumption. Sensible? Or not feasible? You decide.

2.) 02 May 2020 08:56:20
Thanks 4eva, hope you’re keeping well also mate.
You’ve been keeping a low profile, nice to hear from you again mate 👍.

3.) 02 May 2020 09:27:26
What ever is eventually decided Moose, you can be certain of one thing, it won’t please everybody.

4.) 02 May 2020 09:32:55
Too true mate but think that could be the fairest way forward if indeed the season can't be finished level playing field for everyone and nobody misses out.

{Ed001's Note - it really won't matter to mark as he will have forgotten what was decided by the next day. Every day is like a day of discovery to mark. He picks up a newspaper and each day is shocked to find out Bojo is PM and there is a virus going round....}

5.) 02 May 2020 09:46:06
What!? What happened to Churchill? As long as Buddy Holly and Elvis are ok I'll be fine.

{Ed001's Note - I am sure they are all fine and well mate. So long as they stay out of UK nursing homes anyway....}

6.) 02 May 2020 09:50:54
I’ve just been out in the garden and the neighbour started talking to me in some strange language, it was like I was in some foreign country or something. 😟.

7.) 02 May 2020 09:57:26
Do you think Big Ron is going to get em back training soon?

8.) 02 May 2020 10:02:46
Phew! That's a relief I thought some dark sorcery was involved Ed . They still burn witches though don't they?

9.) 02 May 2020 10:04:26
Lol this has reminded me ( crikey I have got a memory after all ), of the major on Fawlty Towers. pure class.

10.) 02 May 2020 10:05:29
Has Venglos finally been sacked then?

11.) 02 May 2020 10:15:47
I mentioned the war once but think I got away with it 😁.

12.) 02 May 2020 10:37:53
Basil on Sybil’s ingrown toenail,
“ it’s a shame it’s not an ingrown tongue. ” 😁.

13.) 02 May 2020 10:55:19
But do you know how to make a walford salad? 😁.

14.) 02 May 2020 11:04:12
Sybil- “ if I find out you put money on that horse Basil, you know what I’ll do. ”
Basil- “ You’ll have to sew them back on first. ”😁.

15.) 02 May 2020 11:09:02
“ what is a Waldorf anyway? A walnut that’s gone off? ”.

16.) 02 May 2020 11:25:06
Lol a quality tv show mate, classic.

17.) 02 May 2020 11:45:59
Just one more buddy,
Basil: “ What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel window?, Sydney opera house perhaps?, The hanging gardens of Babylon? herds of Wildebeest sweeping majestically. ”
Guest: “ I expected to see the sea”
Basil: “You can see the sea it’s there between the land and the sky”
Guest: “ You call that a view? ”
Basil: “ Well perhaps you should consider moving to a hotel closer to the sea, preferably in it. ”.

18.) 02 May 2020 12:07:47
Brilliant! 😂😂😂.

19.) 02 May 2020 13:35:32
So much funnier watching Jon Cleese deliver it though 😂.

26 Apr 2020 13:57:20
I'd take dyche in a heart beat much better than deano who is a championship manager at best and really should of been sacked by Xmas really it would be dyche, poch, rafa, warnock, keane if deano gets the chop.

1.) 27 Apr 2020 21:28:22
Poch rafa Dyche in that order. Other 2 no chance. You can't be serious surly.

2.) 27 Apr 2020 22:29:40
He probably is serious and don't call him "shirley" 😁.

3.) 28 Apr 2020 03:26:12
Why not warnock or keane warnock is a good manager and keane would be perfect for me says it how it's and doesn't take any crap, my top 3 would be poch, dyche, rafa,

4.) 28 Apr 2020 10:26:59
Personally 4eva I think, with today's pampered players, managers who speak their mind and are capable of having a bit of a blowout have pretty much had their day. As Jack Nicholson once said " you want the truth? You can't handle the truth! " I'd like it to be like that again when managers had the power but alas that's not how things roll now, too many cooks and all that. Poch would be good but outside our villa world could he be sold the project? Maybe depends how high we want to reach. As for Deano I still think patience is needed, but that's just my view. All good managers had learning curves and successes and failures along the way except maybe a few who due to right place right time had instant success but those will be coveted by the elite which sadly we're not at the moment. We'll just have to see whether lessons have been learnt during the lockdown if its apparent it hasn't maybe then pull the trigger but the way things are at the moment a new manager would have little time or opportunity to assess and adapt.

5.) 28 Apr 2020 12:09:12
I’m in total agreement Moose, the age of the “a##e kicker”,
is over. If you look at Klopp and Guardiola you see strong characters, for sure, but they both have a strong rapport with their players. You can see that their players look up to them and want to give their maximum.
This is Dean Smith’s first season in the premier league and he will of learnt a huge amount. I honestly think the team that won promotion was stronger than the one we have now. Look at the players on loan we had and lost, Abraham, Snodgrass and Tuanzebe, look at the experience we lost in Hutton, Whelan and Jedinak. Those players have largely been replaced with players who have potential, it was always going to be a long shot that they would all hit the ground running, especially in the premier league. Did we honestly think we were going to take the premier league by storm?
The owners are thinking long term, not quick fix, and I think they accept that it will not be a smooth road.
They are investing in youth and developing the Academy which I personally think is the way forward.
I am not saying that Dean Smith is the man to drive the owners’ concept forward but I do think he should be given the chance. I said in a previous post that Dyche wasn’t immediately successful in the Prem., but Burnley stuck with him and it paid off. Dyche learnt from his experiences
and became a better manager, I think given the chance Dean Smith could do the same.

6.) 28 Apr 2020 12:26:51
I think if Chelsea hadn't of had the transfer ban and United were a bit less reticent of giving a relatively novice manager money to spend then we would probably have signed both abraham and tuenzebe so much more consistency in terms of squad and team. Think maybe 1 of the 3 experienced players we let go, probably more Jedinak or Whelan we would of been better served in terms of experience and influence within the team, not saying they'd of played regularly but they'd of known how to close out games and with their age and lack of genuine athleticism would of just sat in front of the back 4 and offered more protection and also a calmer head and instructed those around them.

H85 are you a villa, villa haven't played well in 24 yrs 🤔🤔🤔and are a overrated club and won't win ote in the nxt 48 yrs can you see into the future. Villa are a massive club 5 most successful club in English history stats don't lie big fan base good stadium quality training ground, just been run poorly since doug, and also ffp has hindered villa spending power with new owners, we just need the right manager and coaches then we will be flying again it's just been a dull 10 years we will bck one day.
