Borja Baston!
Can't say I know anything about this fella but I cannot believe this is anything but a last minute panic buy. If true and he signs I hope he is a success but really, Borja Baston!

1.) 31 Jan 2020 18:50:14
He is on the way to Villa Park for a medical.

2.) 31 Jan 2020 18:57:10
All in all it’s a pathetic jan window
Makes it worse is when teams like Sheffield Utd are spending 22 million on a quality young player and West Ham 20 million on Bowen who’s class.

We get Samatta and baston.
Our recruitment team / scouts are s##t.

3.) 31 Jan 2020 19:02:41
If he does the business Johhny, I don`t care if he is a panic buy, or a buy one get one free buy.
He will do for me, I am optimistic and you never know he could be a gem.
I have no doubt the knockers will be getting ready.

4.) 31 Jan 2020 19:13:56
You need to chill Malc.
Are you a pessimist mate, because you are complaining without evidence.

5.) 31 Jan 2020 19:19:31
Apparently Suso knew him from his early days. We'll see. Let's hope Suso has earned his money with this left field pick.
At least he's a striker and you never know, these things can come off.

6.) 31 Jan 2020 20:02:21
Prep for championship.

7.) 31 Jan 2020 20:13:38
Whatever happens with the rest of the season good or bad, Suso as sporting director has not in my opinion earned the significant salary he has taken. I would be very surprised if he is still with us next season.

8.) 31 Jan 2020 20:26:01
Villadave listen to what the Swansea fans are saying
“ a Spanish Connor Wickham”
You telling me that you are happy with our signings this window?
End of the day our recruitment has been shocking since the summer and the one factor that every relegated team has is poor recruitment.
£140 million on 12 plus signings averaging around 10 million per player in the premiership is piss poor.

9.) 31 Jan 2020 20:29:30
Dub. do you really have no faith in our side?

10.) 31 Jan 2020 20:49:22
Malc, no I am not over the moon with this latest signing nor Drinkwater, but Samatta I am very happy with him.
As far as what the Swansea fans think I don`t give a rats arse what they think.
If you are taking notice of what they thinking, well they think Swansea are better than Villa, how do you feel about that?

11.) 31 Jan 2020 20:53:22
No not really
End of the day if your players aren’t up to scratch then you deserve what you get.
What have the following teams all got in common?
Sheffield Utd
All have great recruitment and scouts

What do the following have in common
Aston Villa
West Ham
All have poor recruitment.

12.) 31 Jan 2020 20:55:49
You know, we shouldn't pre-judge, for all we know this could prove to be a master stroke. He had an excellent season with Eiber in la Liga a few seasons ago, scoring 18 goals in 36 matches.
It could be that he just didn't fit in with Swansea's style of play. He is described as being an excellent finisher but lacks pace.
On the face of it, it's underwhelming, I must admit I would have preferred Bowen, but hey, give him a chance, you just never know.

13.) 31 Jan 2020 21:19:30
Pointless debating any further Mate.
Again I reiterate, I will not judge until I have seen the product.
Not over one or two games or hear-say.

14.) 31 Jan 2020 21:23:57
Not the most inspiring signing in the world but he adds some cover up front and he’s free.

15.) 31 Jan 2020 21:24:54
Paperwork is complete, just medical to be done and he will be a Villa player. Personally I will be interested to see how he gets on. If he scores or creates a few goals and gains us a few more points then I will be happy.

16.) 31 Jan 2020 21:27:22
Damn right mate it is what it is yes we're a big club by history and other stuff but at the moment we're not we are a new prem team and have to build again by staying in this league and being competitive every season then we will get back to where we all should be pushing for top7 only if we get our scouting right.

17.) 31 Jan 2020 21:28:52
Thought I was on my own Mark, well said mate.

18.) 01 Feb 2020 02:12:12
This Baston has a poor record over the last 5yrs so I’m not impressed at all.
Struggled in the championship and already failed in the prem after Swansea paid big money for him.

Easy to say give him a chance but we can afford to take chances on players like him.
This Suso was supposed to have the contacts and pulling power to get good pedigree footballers into the club.
that isn’t happening so what’s the point of him being there!? I could have called Swansea and offered them a tenner and they’d have ripped my hands off for him.

Absolutely mugged off!

19.) 01 Feb 2020 10:26:24
You are entitled to your opinion Shane, but that is rubbish mate.
Ian Wright, Klose, And Drogba were producing the same sort of form until they were given a chance.

20.) 01 Feb 2020 14:03:17
Peter Withe springs to mind as well. He wasn't a big achiever when Cloughie signed him, when he was 25. I dare say there were more than a few Forest fans who raised their eyebrows and were underwhelmed at the time.
2 league titles and 2 European cups later, I wonder how many Forest fans were critical of him signing Withe then.

21.) 01 Feb 2020 16:58:44
I'd also like to point out that he is a free transfer so that officially makes Suso an infinitely better negotiator than Shane who'd have paid a transfer fee.
Extrapolation means we've probably saved around £1billion having Suso in charge rather than Shane. Good business if you ask me.

22.) 02 Feb 2020 06:03:25
Yeah call me out on the tenner comment that’s a great way to win the debate lol

Wright Klose scored goals everywhere they went so I don’t quite get what you’re saying?
Football now isn’t like the 70s-80s- 90s where clubs could go sign a ‘nobody’ or an untested player from non league football or from a poorer club an turn him in to a star. Just doesn’t happen nowadays.
Bastón is not a Vardy/ Wright. He has had 5yrs of doing absolutely tosh, chance after chance! Failed! where’s the positivity coming from? He’s proven to be useless for 5yrs lol.
Swansea have been desperate to get rid of him for all of them 5yrs, loaning him out and eventually giving him a free transfer. How are all them facts not giving you lot any cause for concern. Unbelievable! Dreamers!

23.) 02 Feb 2020 11:19:43
Chill Shane chill, no need to worry mate.
I had a premonition last night.
It's the last game of the season and we need 3 points to stay up, right. It's 0-0 with 5 minutes to go.
In desperation Deano throws Baston on.
Minutes later Jack tries his luck from outside the box. It looks like it's going wide but it hits Baston on the backside, sends the keeper the wrong way and ends up the wrong way. Villa stay in the premier league. lol.

24.) 02 Feb 2020 11:55:34
Sorry, I meant to say the ball hits Batson on the backside sends the keeper the wrong way and the ball ends up in the back of the net .
Too much red wine . lol.

Is there any point sacking Smith now? Would need a massive turnaround and would going down tarnish a new manager?
Maybe if we get someone else in at least we can get some confidence back and take it into next season.
I honestly don't know what's the best course of action now.
Deflated. Going down, losing our best player in a generation and look completely clueless.
Yes we've had some bad decisions but you can't concede an average of 2 goals a game and hope to stay in the Prem league.
Overall it's been a bad experience. We were/ are clearly not Prepared.

1.) 09 Mar 2020 22:24:46
2/ 3 wins and we are out of it. If we wait any longer it will be too late.

2.) 09 Mar 2020 22:50:00
We are 2 points from safety with a game in hand, a change now and we have a chance of staying up! Smith is lost and devoid of ideas! We won't change though and as a result will be relegated!

3.) 09 Mar 2020 22:54:11
Yes! It's about time. In fact, he should've been sacked a long time ago. We need a good manager for once. It's very necessary.

4.) 09 Mar 2020 23:53:06
No going to like this but I said it at Xmas and during the week break we had in Jan bring in big Sam, pullis, or warnock. We still have a slim chance if we change, but we are going down with current manager.

5.) 10 Mar 2020 08:26:13
I believe in giving a manager a chance and fans would be prepared to give them a chance if they saw progress or even a manager prepared to adapt to situations ie changing formations or tactics during a game but smith seems incapable he has been flogging the same horse all season and apart from one cup run where has it got us he goes out and buys a striker who would thrive on crosses and balls in behind yet he plays a formation and style which provide neither our style of play is nothing like his teams played at Brentford so why?

He had hogan there who scored for fun yet never had a chance with us goes to blues and is scoring for fun? As much as I wanted him to succeed after just watching his post match interview this clearly is not going to happen change now and at least go down with some fight?!

22 Feb 2020 16:59:51
If we lose next Sunday they should sack Smith, not because of that game but because we've still got time to get out of trouble. No time for sentiment now. Still 11 league games left. We can stay up but not with current management team.

1.) 22 Feb 2020 17:12:54
I think he needs to go Johnny, we are so open! The worry for me is we ship 4 or 5 in the final, which could happen! That won't be good for confidence.

I can't recall who it was, but I had a discussion with somebody on this site before who suggested Big Sam - I felt we should be better than Big Sam and Villa should be above a manager like that - I still do but I'd like to apologize for disagreeing with / dismissing this person (wish I could remember who it was, sorry) as they clearly seen issues that I didn't. We are an absolute shambles and need somebody who can organise a team. We still have a chance to stay up here, we need to act, I've seen enough of Smith now to realise he is a very good championship manager but out of his depth at the top level.

2.) 22 Feb 2020 17:49:12
I feel the same, that today was a complete shambles, at times the ball resembled a balloon at a children`s party, the times it was aimlessly was in the air.
The hour glass has finally been turned over, and the sand has begun to fall, "Tempus fugit"

3.) 22 Feb 2020 18:21:23
Dave shambles is spot on the sad part of today was that it was not a one off. Not wanting to be a nelly, I am sure you recall the vitriol I received well before the current demise, when I questioned if we would get our money back on this year's signings, well sadly turns out I was right this lot are a shambles.

4.) 22 Feb 2020 18:42:51
It was me who mentioned bigsam I got ripped for that haha he still could save us aswell.

5.) 22 Feb 2020 20:47:03
Ha Ha, was it Villa4Eva? Well, you know what, you had better foresight than me mate! I think a 3 month appointment to get us over the line is needed now, somebody who can organise a defence! Smith has ran out of ideas and I don't get the sense the players are playing for him, all roads lead to the drop currently!

31 Jan 2020 21:05:11
I just wonder how many players look on social media to see how fans of their new club react to his signing?
Anyway Borja, welcome to Villa. You'll be a massive hit and can see you scoring plenty of goals.

1.) 31 Jan 2020 21:47:03
Welcome to Villa Park Borja Gonzalaz.
Work hard, do your job and we will love you. Good Luck.

2.) 31 Jan 2020 22:32:52
Yep, put a shift in and contribute. UTFV!

3.) 01 Feb 2020 06:05:30
Yeah cause we all loved Emile Heskey! Legend!

31 Jan 2020 21:02:11
Anyone else read that McGiniesta might be back in time for Carabao Cup Final?
Wishful thinking I would say but if he's back for last 5 or 6 games that would be like a new signing.

1.) 31 Jan 2020 21:47:00
Worth two signings if he was JD.

31 Jan 2020 14:22:14
If no more signings I think this leaves us short up front. Poor transfer window? Surely we must have been looking at options well before window opened given our situation.
Raises question marks over Suso's role at the club surely. Doesn't appear to have made any siginificant impact in my opinion. I guess all will become clear tomorrow when Dean answers questions (he said he would) .
Not pessimistic but was expecting much more than we have seen.
Still over 8 hours to go but not confident we'll see any more additions now.

1.) 31 Jan 2020 15:47:10
Agree totally Johnny, fingers crossed mate, only 7 hrs left now.

Seriously? I think you're clutching at straws fella or taking the p***.
The problem is playing championship football with mainly championship footballers under a championship manager. Result? Well I think we all know where we're heading.

I'm sorry I'm not there Scotty. But also glad I'm not there.
I think Terry needs help with coaching the defence. It's clear he's not a natural coach.
It's easy to say I don't care about the cup and staying up is more important but I'll be cheering louder than anyone IF we win it but getting relegated will hurt if it happens.
